Something like the Chronicles of Narnia or Half-Life/Xen where you can go into various worlds through portals and experience different landscapes and physical laws akin to that universe, etc.

i have to second shadowrun, maybe world of darkness modern, vampire hunter d, some gangbanger thug/gta3, call of cthulhu 1920s
CoC would be interesting since players seem almost expendable by GMs on tabletop, it would have to keep some of that kind of ambiance to keep the game truely entertaining...if you really encounter a "monster" closeup theres a good chance your gonna die...and knowing too much is not a good thing, many players would be locked up in the asylum online
notice i didnt mention any tolkien-esque fantasy universes, there needs to be more modern/future mmos
I agree that Chronicles of Narnia would be an awesome concept for a game. But until these developers get off the cookie-cutter mentality, I would not want it in development for the whole fact of a large chance of ruining it. Something akin of what is happening to MEO.
Tis a real shame.

Brian Lumleys books the "Vampire World/Necroscope" would make for an interesting setting and Bab5 deservers a mention but I think a mmorpg from the ALIENS movie would be really interesting, I loved the AvP games.
the type of MMO I would like to see is a cross between freelancer, jumpgate, and wing-commander. where in this game, the flight engine is like jumpgate, the space traveling method is like traveling from system to system like in freelancer... along with seamless in-system warping, and where the ship/shield damage system and weapon fires are a lot like wing commander: prophacy.....
though twitch based space combat shooters are not really popular in the gaming market these days.... sadly.
Well SOE seems to think their version of twitch combat will work with jump to lightspeed (personally I think anything attaced to SWG is just piled on a foundation of garbage so no matter how good it is, it will suck in the end)
I do think there needs to be more twich aspect brought to these games, maybe not fully twitch but I'm hoping someone will find a happy medium.
The C.S. Lewis is definitely and interesting setting, but the reason i brought up shadowrun is because its a mix of old and new.. ie fantasy magic etc with hardcore sci-fi stuff. In the books there are justifications for werewolves and vampires and ghouls even. All the classic horror, with addition of AI programming and all the new sci-fi style horror.
With the corps offering some amazing dungeon possibilities
I don't know, i know that the current offerings even WoW and EQ2 aren't really being groundbreaking, they are more of the same stuff that has been around. They are updated versions mostly, better graphics, finer details etc, but overall the same old thing.

I've got JTL (my wife loves SWG Arrrghh) and it is not at all twitched based. Sure you must manually target something. But you have to be a complete tard not to be able to fly just as good as anyone else without even trying.
The setting I would like to see is The World from .Hack, or Ravenloft.

Would like to see something in a Devil May Cry-horror environ as well.
Would also love the environment to be more realistic: I want blood and intestines to spill when I unload my buckshot into a ghoul's stomach, or I want heads to fly when I swing my axe. Death should be permanent. Undeath may result from death. Destruction of undeath => Permanent Death. If player chooses not to be undead, then must start over, but with some added benefit.
A classic Undead vs Living type theme would do the setting justice: As a vampire you could crawl on walls (at night) and slay sleeping citizens (sleeping => health/mana regeneration), or as a werewolf you could live among the populace (although you would be hunted if you were to be discovered transforming by a guard) and make more werewolves by fatally wounding (but not killing) your prey.
Satanic cults could also exist among the living; so evil human players could be secretly performing evil deeds to gain easier access to the Undead quarters, but with serious repercussions if found. Divine cults could also be found among the dead with the same consequences.... Just the dream of an extreme horror-fan :X
"Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say 'ni' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred." MP
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
the SWG space expansion.. why am i not suprised? Sounds like typical for that game, garbage.
Tron.. there's a thought, very unique one indeed. You could easily argue it is the archtype/basis for a MMO in popular culture. I'm not sure that there is enough variety to support a MMO of the tron world though.
Horror type mmo? eh.. I think it should be a setting within a setting but the entire game based around it? I don't think so, just not enough variety.
i would like to see a semi fantasy version of the new world.(america) have native americans , spiritually powered VS incoming intruders with technology but this time..make it fair battle not a genocide.

I'd like to see a modern day themed MMORPG (no, not the sims) but except with a GTA-style including freedom, laws, chaos/order and actual player run politics/cities.
I think it would be cool to have a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, it oculd be set in the future but theres some story behind technology blah blah, characters would use swords/energy waepons, and various forms of guns. It would incorporate classic fantasy enviroments like mountains, forests but include sci-fi elements like skyscrapers that vanish into the clouds, alien ruins, crashed spaceships and elaborate cyborg like factories... yup

I totally agree, that world has alot of potential to be turned into an mmo-rpg type world. Though, there is no magic per say, just the suggestion of something mystical. So I'm not exactly sure how that would be worked around...
Narnia is also a good idea, but as we all know, idea's that are not originally conceived to be incorperated into a game are generally badly done because they are a cheap cash in.

SuperSpy/Thief Setting: You would all be spies of some sort, maybe have a PvP element where people can play the bad guys too. You could try missions solo, or do team missions where everyone has different skills to bring into play - one might be a safecracker, another an acrobatic type, the psycho with guns, or the suave sweet-talker. And you might have to break into opposing buildings to assassinate someone, steal something, whatever, and so on. You could have this incorporated into a Shadowrun type of setting, so maybe you're all 'runners or something.
Aliens: From the Aliens movie, you all play a marine of some sort, different class abilities, and you get to take part in everything from the Aliens universe, which doesn't only include the acid-for-blood Aliens but lots of other types, including the Predators, and maybe those Starship Troopers bugs. Would probably work better as a team based FPS than an MMO, but add the different worlds, space stations and space travel, and it could open up to a bigger idea.
Harry Potter: Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks an MMO version of Harry Potter would be cool.
That'll do for now. Everything else I fancy playing is in the pipeline or already been released in one form or another. Hopefully the Lord of the Rings MMO will be as good as I hope.

Prohibition era mobster MMORPG.
Be able to be lawful or criminal, or even a bystander.
Tommy guns and fedoras. Flappers and ragtime.

Basically a mini-world with immense freedom.
