i was just wondering, has anyone else here been ANGERED by the extremely long download of beta and then finally not being able to get in? its not a good thing.... let out all your rage/anger here.

Well you could have saved yourself the anger and stress and coughed up $8.00 for a 3 month Fileplanet membership. I downloaded the entire game in about 2 hours. And I did that on 2 different machines.
And I was so angered by them giving away free (or $8) play of their game I pre-ordered my copy today.
Yeah Bittorrant sucks and the upgrader sucks. I'm reinstalling right now due to some file corruption that's preventing the 1.1 patch to go on. But they could have been like EQ2 and done no open beta at all.
They didn't have to do an open beta, and from the official site of WoW and FilePlanet it looks like they've gotten more demand than they expected.
The way I see it they had 3 choices. No open beta. Open Beta and mail the disks (SW Galaxies), or open beta downloads. Setting up the network infrastructure for an OB download of this size would have been crazy. So they partnered with FilePlanet who already had the infrastructure. Pretty smart route I think.

well i preoerdered it already but i guess it was my computers fault. I couldnt load any of the pages and when i finally coul it was over.
You know what? I was SO PISSED OFF at the long download times and everything that I was seriously thinking of cancelling my preorder. That had to be the longest, slowest download that I've EVER had to endure, I was trying to get onto the forums to lay waste to Blizzard and their lame game, but the forums were down.... /SCREAM
A day later, I finally got in a few hours ago and from the intro scene on, all that bad juju just faded away- just gone. And now I know it was all well worth it, I'd do it all over again if I had to (which I pray to God that I won't). This game is... damn... just DAMN GOOD.
Hang in there, man. You'll see what I'm talking about, best of luck to you with your Blizzard DL'er speeds.

Downloaded the game in 20 hours installed it and began playing had absolutly no problems
Dont misrepresent the current state of Blizzard behavior. This is NOT an open beta. Regardless of what Kerry-like spin and misrepresentation you try to wrap around the Blizzard situation, they are not embrassing the market and welcoming the market into their game, but pissing it off. Thats what the issue is about I think.
Truly, what did you all expect regarding download times? Blizzard sure isn't going to be paying for all the bandwidth at 2 gig/s a pop, especially when this is free.
It's a massive game that takes a massive amount of time to download. I don't think they will be offering downloadable clients for retail.
i totally agree i really wanted to play this game but then the signups were closed
so now i dont have a chance to play the game
lets hope they reopen the signups later
let me teach u guys the ways of the force:
1. get to FP early when the lines r short (i waited an hour)
2. begin DL
3. eat dinner
4. go to sleep at 7 (cuz i got none the night be4)
5. wake up at 1 in the morning, stupid missing hardrock live on mtv.
6. install
7. play
GG owned and that padasomethinrathers is the way of the force...at least mine anyway.

Why angry ? Blizzard were swarmed with hundreds of thousands of open beta applicants, first come first served was all that could be done. Although, I believe fileplanet and Blizzard bittorrent were the only places to get the open beta client, which hurt the whole thing the most, I wished there were more options. It was definately hard work downloading the beta client, although so far, actually playing the game has caused me no problems, and I'm loving it.
Is it true WoW is coming out in UK in mid-February 2005? O_o :<

. for this stupid way the set the download up. But i did get it downloaded and it has been fun for the most part. Except for the constant server crashes,But i tell my self that this is still just a beta game and i shoud be happy that i got to try this out before i bought it.
Seriously, you guys are such whiners.
First, the game is free and the download isnt bad. Dont use the blizzard downloader, which you should know is crap if you read the boards even once. Download from fileplanet, duh...
Second, it is open beta and 500,000 people signed up in one day, there will be a little lag. This is also the biggest stress test for the servers and will help blizzard iron out any problems.
Third, its free- dont complain.
Fourth, boo hoo you whiners didnt get into open beta... well the signups were up for about 24 hours. If you arent a big enough WoW fan to get off your butt and sign up during that 24 hour window then your not a big enough fan to be cheesed off and complain complain complain on these boards about it. Go away. 500,000 people were able to sign up, where were you? The signups were announced well ahead of time too so dont tell me you didnt know when they were.
The fact is that the real WoW fans got into the open beta, because they were psyched and watched the sites on the day of the signups. You guys who didnt get accounts were off doing something that was more important to you. Okay, well- go continue doing that then. Because noone cares about you not getting into OB... in fact I'm confident that the OB is better off without you.

We were some of the ones who got in and im happy with that .but it don't give you the right to be so harsh.
give them some slack. And just becouse it free doe't mean that you cant complain a little about the trouble that you are having.That is how Blizzard will fix the problems.
Nope it's BETA and my character will mostlikely be wiped anyway no sense stressing about it. No if I was paying to play beta like SWG I would be pissed. But it's not so I deal with it.
I'm pissed off that Blizzard uses Bit torrence as there download method, its horrible slow and for alot of Cable users cause's network lag due to the uploading. But now I see why they needed FilePlanet so bad, it allows people to get the game alot quicker then they would if they went through Blzzard....
Still a great game and I think it will be THE best not one of them...Sorry Old Anarchy Online, you have been replaced.

The only real problem I have seen so far is the terrible server instability. It seems a bit odd to me that servers are this unstable so close to launch. I sincerely hope they get this under control it would be a shame to see them have a horrible launch and unstable servers especially after EQ2 managed a smooth launch.
If they dont get it ironed out by the end of OB I will be waiting a week or 2 before buying WOW as I have no desire to pay for playing a game that I cant play for several hours a day due to server maintenance. I did that for SWG and I never want to do it again.
