Want good new PVE

hunte_chunte_c Member Posts: 4

Hey guys,

I`ve only ever played 1 MMORPG and that was Final Fantasy which i loved. Played this for long time but got married and stopped. I want to play something new that may come out soon or has just been released. Was going to give Darkfall a go although this is PVP and took too long for me to enter that game. Games that have been out with loads of expansions feel too overwhelming to start a new because i like to be on top of things or close to it instead of too many things to do all the time.

Any advice would be appreciated. I`m in England if this counts for anything and don`t mind whether its free game or pay game and just want it to be as good as FF or better.

Cheers

Craig

Vanguard and Conan are probably ideal choices, both excellent and involving games that have excellent PvE.

    Give them a go!

You should be able to pick up either very cheaply and they both come with 30 days of gameplay included so if you don't like them you don't have to pay to keep playing.

If you liked FFOnline and like the feel of new games, you may want to wait for Aion to release in America and Europe (they are saying this fall).  I was a huge FFOnline fan myself, and this is the game I am waiting for.

It has a similar art style, but much more beautiful.  I hear it will be a little less group grinding, and more questing, but I imagine there will still be lots of the same style as FF Online grouping.  The one draw back is there will not be a duel class system, just regular classes.

Conan is a good game to play for PvE content for a short time, but be warned now.. at the endgame it's not like FFXI. Where you had Sky, Sea, and TAU to raid with friends, it's different in Conan and newer MMOs. It's not about raiding now, its about PvP. You realize the whole reason your toon was leveling in Conan was to someday defend your Guild City in Lacheis Plains against other player's guild cities who will attack yours for various reasons.

If you are playing Conan just for the time it takes you to level to 80 and then reroll another toon, you won't be happy as a PvE player.

The sad thing, is the closest thing to FFXI out now is Vanguard, which has a severe population problem. That is not so bad if you are into raiding as you don't need tons of people to raid, just six good friends. But Vanguard has great crafting (not easy just like FFXI) and PLENTY of quests all over the place.

I do agree Conan is worth playing for the PvE element with EXCELLENT written quests and very good musical background, but if you are a true PvE lover, it won't keep you once you have seen the dungeons. look for the game on Amazon and you can get it for around $5 dollars or less. Make sure to roll on the newer PvE servers, not the older ones.

AoC, hands down, is what you should be playing.  Plenty of quests, great environments, fantastic graphics, superb community, tons of quests.  Remember, it's not the destination, it's the journey...and AoC has the best journey out there right now.

Thanks for all the good advice guys.

I have been looking at Aion and agree it looks amazing. I think i might trial a few but think i may just end up waiting for this one.

I'm enjoying LotRO myself, the graphics are very nice, and it runs great even on my 2 year old pc at full detail. It's got a very well presented levelling system, with great quests and a superb imersive world. There's plenty to do at the end too, my kin is mostly level 60s and they're always doing something. I'm just taking my time and enjoying the levelling though, as it really is a nice one to level in.

Some people just do not care for PVP.  You can't fault someone for tastes as there is no accounting for them.

Now I'm no expert on Aion, but I do know that it is a PvP game.  I understand that the game will have some content geared for the PvE crowd, just don't be surprised if the main focus and most of the content released is going to be for the PvP/RvR crowd.

If you have some friends to play with I second the nod for Vanguard.  It really is a great game that suffers from a very rocky launch.  As others have mentioned, its big challenge ATM is low population in a huge world.  That being said, if you  have some friends to group up with you will enjoy it a lot.

Thought I would throw out some other options...First of all why not WoW?  It has PvP but also a very strong PvE game.  If you haven't played it yet it is worth giving a try.  It does have two expansions out but leveling is fast up to level 70 which is where the new expansion starts.

Other thoughts are maybe some lesser known free to play games like Perfect World or Dream of Mirror Online.  Hope this helps!

I am currently playing Vanguard al though I wont recommend it but it depends on what you want.vanguard has nice beautiful ,fairly big open world but the character classes are too cookie cutter for me.

I played AC 1 (which I loved for over 4 years) which had large open world but you could design a character the way you wanted ,for instance you could put healing on a fighter or any  other character or even mellee defense on a mage if you were willing to spend skill credits on it to purchase it.

Vanguard is actually more restrictive to character building than games like Neverwinter Nights,You have to follow along a very strict class template path so there is little to keep my intrest so far.Ill keep playing for awhile while my free month is active and then probably will cancel

I would def. not recommend AoC, such a bad game.  That game was built around a gimmick, the real time combat and combo system which quite frankly ends up being just as repetitive as the timed combat attacks in most mmo's.  AoC character mods are not so good and the classes are quite boring and nothing new there either.  I would personally suggest Vangaurd, they gave me a free month recently since they added a new newbie island and fixed alot of issues.  I personally think it's one of the better games out there and if I wasn't unemployed atm i would be paying to play it probably.  As far as finding a populated server just look it up on the forums they will have a list of the most populated on there somewhere.  The community is great and as far as PvE it's really good and the graphics are stunning. Classes are nothing new here either but they do have a cool diplomacy feature which is something to focus on when you are tired of your normal quest lines plus it leads to some good riches.  Well that's my 2 cents, there are not too many good games out atm if you ask me, waiting for a good one to drop like swtor (fingers crossed it's good) or something a little more open on character creation like earthrise.  Hoping Mortal online will deliver with a completely open sandbox gameplay but so far from the vids and website it's kinda reminding me of AoC with the style of graphics and webpage design.  Ok done now I promise.

Possibly worth giving DDO a try as it has the best PvE questing to be had. Although it has been out 3 years, it is structured in such a way that you will not be left behind.

Also from the UK, EU servers are doing nicely and a good time for a trial as we are just starting the 3 year festivities.

while im not much of a PvE guy, ive tried about all of them for the hell of it. As far as comunities go, LotRO and CoX both have very good communities. CoX is kinda odd in that u dont really get any armor/weps etc, u just power up your abilites and select more as u level, etc. Kinda simplified in that all you really do is beat up on npcs solo or with others. LotRO is more standard MMO in that u got most of the basics in there. crafting, gear, classes, raids etc all set in tolkien's world. has an epic story line aswell which is kinda cool, and only 1 expansion which i think your fine without even. (havent played since before xpan came out but i leveled fine into my 30's).

Everquest 2 is also a fairly good game, but it has ALOT of expansions (u can buy them all in a bundle but as u said u dont want a game with alot of expansions, it is hard tryin to figure all of it out at once). but it really wasnt all that hard to learn, ppl are generally helpful on pve servers and i was able to level up a coercer fairly easily without any real prior knowledge (think i got into high 50's low 60's before leaving).

Thats about all i can recall from the top of my head, but mostly because they were better then average games.

Protip: If someone does NOT list at least one positive and one negative about the game they are critiquing, its best to ignore the post.
