Other than casting a shadow of doubt over the business practices of the producers of SGW, I don't understand how it's all going to affect the in-game experience. Granted, after some of our experiences with certain gaming companies, it's right to be skeptical of them, because a mishandling of an MMO can HURT you when you're a dedicated player.
But outside of that, what makes the game itself a "scam"? Or how will this whole insane-sounding MMOGULS stuff going to affect the in-game experience? Unless they are giving MMOGUL members in-game items/abilities/etc that others can't get, I can't imagine what it has to do with the normal everyday player of this game. I'm assuming they are allowing people to play this game without signing up for MMOGULS.
Would someone enlighten me? Again OUTSIDE of the suspect gaming company, because at this point the list of reliable ones is laughably short.
And please don't use unfounded rumors like "their devs aren't paid" as a response, unless you have concrete evidence to back it up (which wouldn't be an unfounded rumor).
I am NOT, I repeat NOT intending to antagonize anyone or start a flame fest between fanbois and haters.
I am asking an honest question as a prospective player of this game. I would like to know how people think this MMOGULS thing is going to adversely affect the in-game experience, which we're gonna be paying the standard monthly fee to play.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

At at first glance the only impact I can see is if you need a MMOGULS membership to acctually play the game. I am a little curious about what SNAP (Social Network At Play) really is as it seems to come with full ingame intergration.
You won't need to join mmoguls to play so that part of it is ok I guess
The bad side of mmoguls is the fact that I'm expecting alot of ingame spam and harassment from mmoguls players in game, sure they have a TOS and they claim their members won't be allowed to spam in game but as I've seen so far all over the net alot of these members have broken the TOS many times over.
We have gold spam which we get in all mmos but with mmoguls spam on top of that it will really get things out of control.

That's a valid thought, sancher! If there is a presence of that, I plan to /ignore them just like I do all the other spammers, so no biggie for me. A month into an MMO I've usually got my ignore commands on speed-dial anyway.

Sancher is correct, if it were just a way to fund SGW and had no affect once you bought and played the game, most gamers would say "Who cares about saps that bought into MMOGULs?".
However it doesn't look as cut and dry as that right now. All MMOGULs saps will have access to SGW, Gary Whiting (owner of CME and MMOGULs) is encouraging them to recruit customers into their "downline". To you and me this means they'll be spamming ingame and creating commands (guilds), trying to recruit you for the sole purpose of signing you into their downline. A downline is saps that you recruit below you, and you get a commission for each sap. So more saps equals more dough.
The even worse part is that this will destroy both businesses, OK no one's weeping for MMOGULs but SGW will be the first to die. CME won't ban these MMOGULs spammers as Whiting wouldn't allow it since it'd destroy his MMOGULs scheme, however gamers will leave SGW in droves destroying both businesses ultimately.
People that say CME/SGW are/is a scam are incorrect in my opinion, I don't believe the game itself (if launched) is a scam. Since if it launches you can buy it and play SGW. I do believe you're being decieved, I also believe MMOGULs is a scam and is nothing more than a pyramid scheme with no products. Gary Whiting is a scammer and has clearly attempted to decieve the gamer community with dodgy statements from CME and spreading out responsability inorder to create some deniability on his part. I assume most of the people at CME aren't in on the scheme, although I know that upper managment are.
In my opinion CME needs to lose Gary Whiting and his MMOGULs scheme, atleast gold spammers can be banned. Having unbannable spammers lurking at every POI and spamming you with impunity on all servers just isn't funny. Some still refuse to believe this will be the case, CME will no doubt deny it, but Gary Whiting himself has already stated more than once this is what'll happen.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

I appreciate the response, Agricola. The in-game spamming is a concern to me as a perspective player of this game, but unless the /ignore feature limits me from being able to deal with it, it won't be a problem (for me personally). If spamming is a problem, and they limit my ability to remove it from my screen, I probably won't be playing.
The idea of the pyramid schemes (I'm not saying that's what MMOGULs is, but it DOES appear that way to me) manifesting itself in-game as guilds, well, that just scares me. And I can't reasonably say that if this whole MMOGULs thing and SGW are linked as closely as speculated, that this isn't exactly how it would go down.
While that isn't an immediate concern for those like myself in a clan/guild already together and just waiting for release, long term that could be a game-breaker. One would hope that the community would be self-policing, and these guilds would be known among normal players, it might remain a small nuisance. That is a very optimistic view of the situation, though. In all likelihood, if these rumors ARE true, the game forums would be strictly policed for warnings about those types of activities in the game, hindering the community's ability to wash that crap out.
While I certainly haven't seen enough hard evidence to believe that this game is vaporware or a scam or whatever, one would have to be a FOOL not to see the sketchiness of the MMOGULs thing. Maybe it's all legit, and we're just seeing a new level of synergy in the gaming world. Has anyone noticed that Frankie Muniz, one of the sponsored drivers seems to be the logo picture for MMOGULS? Maybe we're just seeing a new bigger-picture business model from MGM. Maybe this is just a freakin' next-gen pyramid scheme.
Only time will tell, I suppose.
Thanks again for the thoughts.
