Yeah it's good.  Finally a MMORPG where you pretty much won't solo the game entirely cause it takes too much time if you're always alone.  Another thing is the whole everQUEST factor.  At first I found the quests anoying.

SOE made them too hard for nothing cause everyone is using the main chat always asking "Where can I find <insert name> NPC?" or "Where is the <insert name> location?" ... all the time... and 75% of the time you actually get people that reply back and help, 25% of the time no one does.  Either cause they don't want to, or they just don't know themselves.

But after doing the main quests, such as the fact you will stay Level 9 forever unless you do the required Quests to decide what profession you want to be.  It was long, yes it took me 2 hours and I had to join a group or else I would of never finished it... but it was fun.

Just a warning for whoever is reading this and finds their Level 10 quest anoying.  Just do it... the FINAL TASK kicks butt!  I dunno if it's different for everyone, but I had to do a Cleric Quest... and ... well wow!!!  The story and ideas SOE put into it really makes you feel you're in a fantasy world instead of a video game.

Anyways, to conclude, if you're a grinder-love, go for WoW, if you like story-lines, quests and group hunts and questing, then buy EQ2.

Not to mention the graphics in EQ2 are much nicer than WoW's image

Johnark....do you even know WHAT you are talking about.

Grind-love....WoW.....what the hell?!?!? LOL. WoW has everything you just explained and that is coming from a person that has played it. It would seem you have never played it.

Story lines in EQ2 = lore that sounds like it came from a drunk dwarf's behind.

EQ2 Quests = as linear and restrictive as a console rpg

EQ2 Grouping = Again....restricting gameplay requiring grouping so near impossible tasks can be completed which completely negates the ability for one to enjoy the game anyway they like.

EQ2 Graphics = Top Notch and awesome looking, but that is one thing most of you who play this game are blinded to.

THE ONLY THING EQ2 HAS IS GRAPHICS AND VOICEOVERS!

I really don't know why we find a WOW lobbyist patrolling this board. I guess to jump in case he sees somebody enjoying EQ2.

Far as I am concerned EQ2 is enormous constant fun.  And I play with a bunch of people who date back to the early days of EQ.   We were hoping this might feel like those early days again, and it sure does.

The lore in the game is remarkably deep .... it's absolutely everywhere you go.

Yes, grouping is encouraged - even many early quests require grouping.  That's a positive to me, and I've already met quite a few new very nice people.  If you're one who wants to solo most of the game, this is not for you.  EQ and EQ2 are both social games.

EQ2 is not a fast leveling game in comparison to some other games (I'm sick of even mentioning one certain game ... sometimes it's like these are the only two games on earth ... and they're very different anyway).  Anyway, some us are seeking a long term gaming experience.

The quests are great if you ask me, but then I wasn't expecting an epic quest at lower levels. There really have been quite a variety, ranging from 2-minute quests to lengthy ones, and there are many types: deliveries, killing, foraging, finding items, talking to NPCs, etc.  Yes, Johnark, I agree ... I just did the level 10 cleric quest yesterday .... I loved that =)

IMO, odds are if you loved EQ you will love EQ2.

Well we can all tell who the fanboy of EQ2 is now can't we.

LOL! Enormous fun is an overstatement. The only a way to explain it is the Enormous headache that is EQ2 from what I have played. I am trying to bring the light to those that are questioning what to spend hard earned cash on and to tell them to NOT go the EQ2 route. Stay away from it and spend your money elsewhere for something else.

I've been online gaming since AC came out and have played alot of these type games. Without a doubt this is the very best one. Its like SOE took five years of MMORPG EQ I experience along with lessons learned from the entire MMORPG market and combined it in this game. Its not only a good game, it is truly a great game. The only drawback is that in order for it to run without a hitch, you need a pretty powerful computer. I have a 2.2 Athlon processor an Nvidia Starforce 5500 (256 meg ram) and a broadband connection and have suffered NO LAG whatsoever. image

Its incredible. By far the best mmorpg in existance.

EQ2 surely can hold its own against current and upcoming MMORPGs of same genre.

OK, wow lets get a few things stright. From the people that have responded so far have either not really played the game much or really stunk at it. I have gotten one Char to lvl 24, and 3 others to mid teens. No Twinking just trying to see the view from each differnt start class. I will admit it is completly different from EQ1, but better in my mind. The quests are ussually worth doing. I found soloing with ALL class was doable. I soloed my last class a scout to a lvl 15 predator in 3 days. The graphics are great. THe big city is very confusing at first. I also found that evil races have less soloable stuff. So i prefered starting in Qyenos it was much easier. The majority of my gear came from quests and beat anything you can get from the stres for appropriate lvls. Also when conning a target you can see if it is ment for a group or to be soloed. The trade skills took a turn for the worst towards the end of beat but were still fun. If i never got a chance to try them the way the were before all the patch I would probally have not many complaints their either. If you like a game that has a lot of running around and always somethig for char to do this is great. You can lvl from quests just as well as kiling mobs.

Clever deduction Dr. Watson, er Flying750 .... you've briliantly and correctly deduced that I am a fan of EQ2.  What gave me away?  Was it when I said "Far as I am concerned EQ2 is enormous constant fun", or did you need more clues.

As a quest reward you get 23 copper and a wizard's cap.  I think you're ready for higher level quests now.

Johnark, World of Warcraft was never brought up in the question asked, and thus it can be assumed it is not required in the replys. Please refrain from bashing games. The simple(and slightly comical) fact about this, si that the only reason for you to pick on a game in order to make yours look better is because you so fervently want your game to be better that you feel the need to put it's rivals down. It's a form of insecurity.

As to the question. I've been wondering how EQ2 is as well, asking won't help though. There are two types of people who are willing to give reviews. Those who loved it before it came out, and will thus give an extremely biased view in favour of EQ2, and those who hated it before it came out, and thus will give an extremely biased view against EQ2.

Both have been seen in this thread. You're best bet is to try to find a friend or someone who's house you can play it at, to see if it is worth it for you.

[edit] After reading some more of the replys in this thread sparrow... my suggestion is to ignore them all. I don't think I read a single one which displayed a proper amount of intelligence to be considered legitimate. If you do manage to find something unbiased, please tell me, I've been looking as well, but I think these boards are not the place. (Luckily I have a friend who just bought the game, I'm going to test it out when I get the chance.)[/edit]

It has the same problems that SWG had/has...there are a ton of bugs, the game isn't finish (ready to be released), there is no in game live support, the instruction for guiding new players is horrible, crafting part of the game is totally broken, the economy of the game thereby is totally broken...warriors are gimped because they can't get their level three skills (or near impossible), the devs concepts about how to balance the game concepts (for example leveling pace, class balance, obtaining f money ect.) is very poor. I am certian there are a dozen other things that could be mentioned, but in general the game is fun, but a mess. The game should never of left beta and you'll hear that same complaint over and over for the next year from a varity of sources.

The game is very dynamic, involved and complex with the best quest/mission content I have seen in a MMORPG and the combat system is very interactive and enjoyable. The game has a lot of things to make it “fun.” However, if you were frustrated to hell with Plains/SWG but were hoping that SOE would finally get the running part of A MMORPG down…you will be very disappointed. If the bugs, lag, lack of support, broken content and arbitrary restrictions don’t bother you then EQ2 could be the best game on the market for you.

You hit the nail right on the proverbial head. It seems all MMORPG's released of late and coming all are trying to emulate the success of EQ1. Unfortunately, none will. If SOE had created the candy shell of EQ2 and poured in the sweet chocalte of EQ1, that would be the game for me. What developers fail to realize that it wasn't the eye candy that made EQ1 so succesfull, but the contect and the community. The community grew because the game had such lasting power, it was inevitable. I had very high hops for EQ2 and even though it has been a "whole" week, do not find myself wanting to play any longer. I hestitate before clicking my icon....of course this is premature but my gut feeling tells me I'm playing SWG all over again, player crafted items with the occasional drop, forced grouping after level 15...this is not a casual players game and hence the evil grind awaits. I don't think the game will be much better content wise knowing that the devs designed this game to be a certain way.

This is not meant to be a flame but this EQ2 vs WoW stuff is silly. I believe that most people who post positive/negative comments about either game had their minds made up about whether they liked either game before they even played them.

I never played the original EQ or any of the previous Warcraft games, so I was able to try out both with an open mind. Which is better? Whichever you have the most fun with!

The following remarks have to do with my personal tastes: Both games have a ton of quests to do, and frankly the quest systems in both are rather similar. Of course, EQ2 has voice-overs, and WoW does not, but that is a small issue for me. One thing I like about WoW over EQ2 is that sometimes you have to hunt for a monster. Say you have to kill 5 frogs . . .well, in WoW once you killed a frog, you might have to search more than 5 seconds for another. In EQ2 once I find a certain quest monster, I find that I can just stand in one place and there will be plenty to choose from.

People constantly talk about the graphics. My personal feelings are that WoW has pretty lame graphics. I feel like I am playing in a watercolor painting. I just don't care for the world that surrounds me at all. Meanwhile, EQ2 has better graphics than WoW in my opinion . . . but the lag is so bad, who cares how good the game looks if you can't play it?

Oh one other thing. If I get a quest in WoW, I like that I can run around to the 2 or 3 NPC's, get the quest done, and move on. In EQ2 if I get a quest where I have to talk to 2 or 3 different people, there is a good chance I might have to zone two or more times. This run-for-a-minute-zone-for-a-minute stuff is the most annoying thing about EQ2 (along with the lag). Still, the land in WoW is so uninteresting, I don't care as much that I can explore it without zoning.

So, here I sit, in turmoil . . . which one to play? As you can see I am impressed by some aspects of both games, and underwhelmed by other aspects. So here are my questions:

    1. Do ether games have a history of having problems fixed in a timely manner?

    2. Which game has the best community (this will go a long way toward my making my decision)?

I agree I feel the same way, while EQ2 is a much smoother launch then SWG it seems obvious already that SOE isn’t committed to making the game playable. Why even add all this extra content in the game if it’s just going to be broken and never addressed. The economical aspect of the game is a HUGE part of the game and they totally FUBARED it to the point that it’ll be at least months before it can be fixed and given SOE’s track record with games will probably never be working correctly as they just bandaid it for 2 years. It’s sad once again SOE has taken what could of been an awesome game and destroyed it with complacency. I am amazed how they have such ability and insight to what should be included into games and yet destroy it with mikey mouse business practices. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Well, I don't see how you guys are lvl'n so fast, are you not doing quests and just running out and killing stuff? If so that's what I'ma do cause you get bogged down with quests - geez it's crazy.

Dude can't you just go away! I don't even have the game yet but i enjoy reading this boards and you mister are a stupid troll and not more.
Noone is interested in your anti EQ phrases you don't care to back up with solid arguments.
Go bother people somewhere else. Your presence is not apreciated.

Why does WOW come up everytime EQ2 is discussed btw?
It's two different games and most likely both are fun to play. It's not liek because one game is good the other must suck badly!

I found that you can lvl a little faster killing certain types of creatures based on lvl. I could solo reds with my caster till about lvl 14 then yellow solos were about it. with the other chars i have i can take yellow solo mobs pretty easy, and green group mobs. The quests though on the other hand provided great exp and better loot. I found my best weapons this way, as well as some great armor. were as i would have had to group and be over lvl 10 to have any chance of getting better then the one item drop off the name was raffled out and i rarly got the good gear. so I stuck to a nice blend of quests and killing exp mobs along the way of questing.

I must say that having some experience with both EQ2 and WoW that they really do cater to different audiences. Personally, I happen to fall into both to some extent.

The polish on EQ2 gameplay is excellent. Little things like buffs/heals filtering through a mob to the party member being attacked and the class quests are excellent. The crafting is good too. Kind of reminds me of Horizons. I was NOT an EQ fan. Too much too fast with not enough tutorial. I didn't have the time to figure it out and really get into it. EQ2 eases you into the world with an excellent tutorial. Overall, I'd say 8/10 from my limited experience.

I played WoW stress and enjoyed the game. I really like its graphics the best of all the MMOs so far. I really like Sony. I know the company is not perfect but I do like it. I can't give say how EQII is though I hope it is good. I am thinking of giving it a try.

About getting a good computer is different though. The best I can tell you there is to go to the different sites and configure a computer for yourself. With the new link the MMORPG has maybe that will be a good place to start.

It is a great game and worth the price and the monthly fees.  If you decide to buy it, just be careful to pick a server with a lighter load.  The only problem is server and zone crashes due to very high population load.  I can't complain about any game content, and I love playing!  I just wish SOE had planned a bit better to have more servers at launch.  The game is packed!!!!!!
