Ok well I preordering WoW but still cannot choose. WOw Or EQII? Now this is not meant to flame one game or the other id just like to see the positives and negatives of EQII. I am in OB for WoW so you dont have to point out the negatives.
Games Played:DoAC, EQ, CoH, Lineage 2, Planetside, and Shadowbane. Games Playing:None:( Waiting For:WoW, EQII
EQII blows me away.... I am sure WoW will be great but I think EQII has set new standards for MMO games and they are the only ones in the same league so far.
I found the EQ2 gameplay in late beta to be very restrictive. Felt more like a linear console RPG game than an MMORPG. I ended up just camping mobs on Isle of Refuge in order to grind my way out of there and then again in Qeynos so that I could become a citizen and earn some sort of freedom. I hate being told what to do and when to do it. That's what got me involved with MMORPGs to begin with. The freedom to shape your own destiny. WOW on the other hand had me running around exploring from the very beginning and I really got the feeling that the whole world has been crafted by people who love what they're doing with a passion. At level 10, I have yet to feel the grind in WOW whereas I felt the grind as early as lvl 4 in EQ2.
Having said that, I must have read through thousands of posts with almost as many different points of view. Some close or identical to what I feel and some completely the opposite. It seems to me that there's no way to really determine if EQ2 or WOW is going to be your cup of tea based on other people's opinions alone and what they list as good/bad. You have to bite the bullet and try both for yourself (at least you won't have to pay for WOW if you end up liking EQ2 more). That's the only way to truly tell what will work better for you. I originally thought EQ2 would have been my game of choice because it seemed to be much more innovative and that WOW would just end up being more of the same old. I was wrong. Dead wrong. EQ2 ended up feeling like the same old to me whereas I'm having a blast in WOW.

Other than having to run it on Extreme Performance due to choppiness, it is a pretty solid games. Hilarious at times as well. The voice acting is tremendous. Try it out for yourself. It really is not half bad.

There are just too many things that are disappointing apart from the graphics from my point of view.
The main one that I really hate is the limited storage, plus you cannot even put stuff in your room or house to hold stuff.
The combat system is ok apart from having to start combos by telling the client your going to make a combo. Not mad keen on the fact that once a combo starts it other people in your group affect the combo.
Item decay is ok but where are all the repair NPC's.
Oh play a priest if you don't like downtime as everyone else has to put up with it.
That all sounds really negative and I am trying not to be negative but I think I will go back to some of the older games they just did things so much better.

Doesn't Extreme Performance look worse than EQ 1? I always thought the High Performance setting looks like EQ1 and anything better would look like a next generation mmorpg.

Ahh, the benefits of playing a Warrior, sure, our taunt hasn't been fixed since EQ1 but now we get an extra 2 inventory slots Besides, I'm pretty sure I read somwhere you can place chests in your house to store things, check out eqtraders or some other info sites.

EQ was and always will be focused on teamplay, I couldn't see any other way for HOs to be implemented.

Teamplay! altho downtime is par none compared to EQ1, and playing a Warrior there gives you a good perspective on what downtime and lack of soloability is

Asheron's Call? That just might be fun actually if you can put up with the cardboard cutout graphics!

that is alot fo crap. everyone has there on style of mmorpg game. me its nor for me. am i going to say this game sucks hell no. i have not played it so there for i cant say a dam thing about it. all i can say is i am going to go play wow. i like that game alot. maybe one day i will look at this game but not know.
Dark and Light is the true defining game of where mmorpgs are headed. If you think there is alot to offer in EQ2 and WoW. Then I warn you not to look at the depth DnL has in it. It will make all other mmorpgs look like crap after seeing it. The biggest downside would have to be the system you would need to run DnL, but aside from that it makes EQ2 look bad.
There are a couple things I hate in mmorpgs, The Grind, Stupid AI's, and lack of diversity. EQ2 has 2 of these, and hasnt given a proper answer. If they can solve a way to not have these things in game then EQ2 will truly be a game to play.
I use it as something to munch on until CoH issue 3 come live. If it lose my interest, I will maybe use WoW for the same.
Main flaws: Downtime waiting on finding a group/raid combine with little solo appeal, downtime on travel, on the french version at large, girly look on many males toons, despite a hard try the path to learning and using the new features is steep, some commands from old EQ dont work in EQ2(auto-attack in particuliar), ENFORCING is present even in the tutorial, I didnt feel the challenge is even close to old EQ challenge.

The game is terrible dont buy it. The crafting system that they threw together two days before release is completely broken, which affects both the economy of the game and all the other players. Certain classes cant advance because of it, most weapons and armor cant be made ect. The game is lagged to hell The best I can say about it is that its a better release then Sony has managed to pinch off so far. However the game is still a broken, bugged, rushed out the door piece of junk.

Where to start.
Basically you will have more fun playing EQ.

Ive been playing MMOs for almost 8 years now and ive pretty much played all of them.So with that said i will sum this up very quickly for u.
EQ2 simply blows my mind. IF u dont absolutely love this game then u dont like MMOs. go play consol games.

I think its stupid to compare both games, they are both fun with their unique differences.
Pick one or try both, they are fun in their own way to me.
