Why is this game no.1?

Is it really that good? can anyone playing explain why it holds that spot?

Two reasons, really.
1) It's "free", so it has a lot of people trying it out at least and voting on it. People who try it also don't have any money involved, so their emotional investment is less.
2) The gameplay is pretty solid, especially for a "free" game. It's got a ton of quests, combat is fun and unique, you level up relatively quickly at least until you hit 96th.
Maybe 3 three reasons, actually, much of the competition is just really really bad.
The #2 game is LOTRO, which I have a lifetime sub to, and I play this game instead of that. (Or at least I have been. And looking at my in game time played, I've played this about twice as much in 2 months than I have LOTRO in 8 months)

+1 to that... its totally free and not only that it differs from other game play but also the style of game play.. it a strategic turn base mmo.. ^^,
legions of asians with their spam bots voting for it, more likely.
I actually tried it out for a couple hours...that's all I could handle. What a flaming POS.
Yes it is realy so good.
It is different from other games... One really good thing is PvP, FL (Not for me, i dont like pvp much). You need to think (most games nowdays lack this) what formation to build, its weaknes and strength, thinking whom attack, whom defend, not just same old clicking LMB and hitting F1, F2, F3 and F4.
Quests are also very interesting...
And it reminds FF
well all i can say is that there are a lot of us asians who really like the gameplay of Atlantica Online because it difers from the other MMORPGs out in the market...
maybe many of us asians are into questing and into turn based strategies in comparison to the traditional hack and slash games that is why we find this game appealing...
Only reason this 'game' is at no.1 is because lots of forum alts are voting 10/10 for this game.
It wont last of course but then again nothing does, does it?

I'd say it could be chalked up to asians that are paid to hype games here.
You can pretty much assume that LotR is still the real #1.
fake votes and lots of shills. That's why it's #1 - not because it's some kind of awesome game.
No 1 in what?
Biggest reason why it's number one is it is different than the other MMOs out there. No more mindless grinding where you target something and attack it until it's dead. You actually have to plan ahead and work around your mercenaries to accomplish things.
And it being totally free doesn't hurt
DAoC is still number 1 in my books, but in off peak hours I spend most of my time in AO
There's really more of a sense of accomplishment and that you're progressing in this game compared to Lotro (I think the #2 game).
I mean, once in your 20s in Lotro you move to the Lonelands, which is basically a bunch of goblins and orcs in a badlands type environment.
Then you get to the 30s (like a month later), and you move to the North Downs, which is more goblins and orcs. Only this time it's in a hilly forest area. And there's really tall peeople, too. Look sort of like Cher, real gaunt and scary looking and plays the tamborine.
40s, well, I haven't gotten that far. But it's another wilderness area, I'd guess
In AO, you go to a different type of dungeon every 10 levels or so. And you make about a level or more a day, so you change environments and monsters quickly.
Start off with a Bhuddhist temple, then go to the Sea King's palace, then a giant insect hive, then a Gothic Castle, then the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, then Egyptian Ruins, then some sort of weird clockwork place, then where I am now, a Japanese fortress full of ghosts.
In Lotro, combat is always the same. I hit 1 and 3 alternately, until my fervor is up (or I hit 4 every once in a while to boost fervor), then I hit 6. If I'm fighting 2 opponents, I'd throw 2 and 8 in the mix (aoe attacks). When I'm done, I press 9 to get my power back. But it doesn't really matter what I fight, archer, ghost, goblin, boar, all use the same old formula over and over and over.
In Atlantica, the combat depends on what map you are one. Some monsters will use magical attacks, so you have to holy guard your front row. Pure melee mobs will often gang up on one guy (usually the weakest), so you have to freeze or stun as many as possible. Some monsters are immune or ressistant to some attacks. Some enemies cast DOT spells, and you have to constantly heal or use HG to get rid of them. Some monsters are flying and can only be hit by ranged weapons or spells.
And then in some places your enemy gets reinforcements. So you have to think more strategically for that fight, marshalling your resources so you can take out 3 mobs instead of just 1
You also get new classes introduced all the time as you progress. So you can change the way you play. In LOTRO, you want to play different, you have to roll and alt and start the long, hard process of leveing them up.
Questing is also more streamlined in AO, which can be a good or bad thing. In LOTRO, there's a dozen NPCs in an area, each with a chain of quests about 3-4 ones long.
In AO, generally there's only 3 or so NPCs in an area that give quests, but the chains are maybe 10-15 steps long. And often they can be done in parallel. So you end up doing quests a lot more often, and you remember where the heck the quest NPC is.

i really dont know how really works the spam bot but its not fair that you easily go down to that conclusion. All i can say is that most of us asian gamers are really into a game like this one, and we are really a gamer compare to you bro! Maybe you should respect the games rate ^^,

Why do you care if the game is #1? The list doesn't indicate which games are "best". The score, in general, is just an indication of what the people who've played the game think of it. Unless a balanced scorecard ratings metric is put in place and every voter has played and voted on every game in the list, there's no way you can compare them. The score is just a general indication of popularity and perceived quality by those who've voted for it. Take it with a grain of salt.

You should at least try to play it before rating the game. The other players ratings don't matter much if you are the one that is looking for a game that suits you well. I am lvl 64 now, played wow b4 for 4 years, moved into this and it still can keep my interest for one to two months which is long. You can't really judge a game if you have only played couple hours or look at the game's rating rated by other players.
This game has a high rating because it is different from other mmorpgs. It involves both rpg and turn-based gameplay, which I consider worthy and fun to play. I don't know if I would rate this game the top/#1, but it will probably be in my 5 top list of mmorpg I have ever played. Given wow #1, then lotr, then probably this.
And screw the alts that are giving this game 10/10, who cares about them.
Edit: Added - Playing this game has also taught me many places around the world. Now I'm quite familiar with big cities around the world

I dont really care for the ratings much on this site. remember when nay sayers says wow is gonna suck and what was that other game eq2 is gonna be better?
but definately AO caught my interest. definately try the game first.

Why is it no. 1? Well as an atlantica gamer... I can say that it's a great game that I play... It's not likeother games that is a hack and slash one, it's a traditional turn base game... this game is not about grinding all the time.. there's a lot to do in the game even if your on afk...You can use the fishing and crafting features of it... Imagine your character earn gold without you.... And I don't know also how spam votes work... all i can say it's the players choice to vote.... gamers have their own likes about the game..it's just happen that it became no. 1 so, were not only the one satisfied with the game and vote for it..we also have our own views about the game.. Hope that before you make a comment you must know and see the game first... As you play and experienced it you might know if it's good or not..

all i can say that this game is number one for me.. so what do i care about the others.. bu i think most of the gamers here are really into this game that why this became the number 1.. more power to Altantica and Ndoors

The game is free and the download is not too bad. Give it a try you really don't have anything to lose (besides sleep...muwahahahaha).

I don't doubt that there are some people who actually enjoy the game...there are hundreds of MMOs out there, with people playing them. But there's NO WAY that this game has become the legitimate holder of the #1 MMORPG title, especially considering the alternatives.

"Not fair"?? I draw my conclusions from years of experience...being assaulted in almost every game I've played by armies of asian spammers and gold sellers. You may say it's "not fair", but the facts speak for themselves.
Elaborate systems have to be created and implemented to combat the spam and bullshit that would otherwise render most MMOs unplayable. You think these vermin are above artificially inflating a game's ranking on a website? Hardly!
But please...don't misunderstand me. This is not an insult to asians...I have no problem with them, I assure you. But the FACT (fair or not) is that the spamming, botting, gold farming etc is done by asian companies.

sorry but I love the feature of the game, it's a community that you need to know the demand and supply like in real world... so I'm happy that the game allow gamers to invest and earn... that's it.

For me it's number 1 because its a fresh game with new innovative features. Now a days most MMORPGs just copy each others features. Atlantica Online brought about new concepts for the online gaming scene. Its what players are looking for, new things.

I DO know what I am talking about..I gave the game a try, as I've said before. Even if it's not a bad game, it sure as HELL doesn't deserve the #1 ranked spot, and has been placed there via vote spam scripts.
