ATI 4870 Graphics crash??!

DeadlyByDezDeadlyByDez Member Posts: 152

Last night all of a sudden EVE started to crash on me after I dld the graphics upgrade (started trial). My Card should walk over the specs as it is an ATI 4870 HD and a dual core amd. I have been reading this is a common issue with ATI? Does anyone know if it can be fixed? What I am getting is pixellations and rested to desktop

I think there is an issue with some security suites as well.

There is always a problem with security suites.

It's called "don't run an antivirus while you play a game as all you're doing is killing your FPS".  I don't even want to get started on how much of a scam and how futile mcafee/symantec are for actual protection.  Sadly, I do have to remind people to turn off antivirus when you play games.

Meanwhile after testing with turning off catalyst AI, I'm good now. running 2x 4870 dark knight top.

    Just trying to be helpful

I'm using the same card x1 and love it . It rocks EVE. I did have a 9800SE at one time and it would'nt  run EVE with Catalyst. I just download the display driver now. Yes, The SS's are always a pain.

    Running with a Q9400 and a 4870x2 2GB.

The thing you've got to do with ATi cards and Eve is this:

    1. Force the AA to 4x in CCC by unchecking use application settings. It'll get rid of a lot of those jagged edges, and make the game look a lot better as a whole. Your GPU should be fine with the extra load.

    2. Turn off DEP. Vista has this annoying little feature that causes the game to CTD if it thinks that the client is, in laymans terms, "talking to too much stuff". To fix this:

    1a. Start > Run > type cmd.

1b. Type bcdedit.exe/set nx AlwaysOff. This turns off the DEP. To turn it back on type bcdedit.exe/set nx AlwaysOn. It doesn't do much in regards to security anyway. Slows down outgoing traffic, if nothing else.
