The social aspects of MMO's I like most involve crafting and trading. Most adventuring I do solo. Farming for professions I like to do solo. But I like getting a special order in and delivered!
Most of the MMO's out there seem to be lacking in both these areas. WoW is down right awful about this. SWG was good up until the combat change.
Are there any MMOs out there that allow a player to enjoy most (I understand not all) of the content solo and be very productive with crafting and trading?

There is A Tale in the Desert, where crafting and trading is the bulk of the content.
Try Second Life. Or Vanguard.
"TO MICHAEL!"
This got moved to the Looking For Game section once already. Granted a new poster wouldn't have known to look there before trying again.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Go try eve it has huge crafting, crafting alliance , corps and its the msot advanced economy in a mmo.
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
Yeah, but eve crafting blows in comparison to pre-cu swg.
Try Ryzom, has a massive crafting base, everything you pick up from mobs is used in crafting, armor, weapons. This game is currently free till they sort out there billing system which they said was going to happen 7 months ago.
There is also pvp, exsploring and some questing for you faction or if you prefer you can remain neutral and still do some quests
I like trading and crafting as well and find economic and social aspects more interesting than most combat. Unfortunately I don't have any games to recommend (that are still online) other than what has already been posted here, especially Tale in the Desert and Ryzom.
Oh, there's also Entropia Universe. I didn't see anyone mention that one. Not the greatest, but it's another option.

Saga of Ryzom ---------- www.ryzom.com

I am also big on crafting and enjoyed A Tale in the Desert for a while, but got extremely burnt out on it. It is basically just crafting, sellign and waiting. For some it is exceedingly addictive, but you ahve to be the right type of person.
I have heard really good things about Roma Victor's crafting, but have been warned that extreme patience is required. Having said that I have also read the various horror stories of people attempting to contact the RV customer service which has basically scared me away from ever trying it.
If you can stand the enviornment (and the user interface)
Darkfall ONline has a huge emphasis on crafting and traders. High level Crafters there do enjoy a feeling of importance and regard. However there is a lot about the game which is lacking (see the review link below). Also I wouldnt say the crafting system is complicated or challenging...its just that the wares are in such high demand
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Might be a bad idea to try to play solo in a full-loot PVP game though...
Its not a bad idea.....just a dangerous idea
As a crafter, you can easily stay within the city confines and do a majority of your work. You can travel to and fro. There is not much CC in Darkfall, so just keep running. If all your doing is traveling from one place to another, bank everything and travel naked.
IN the end, I would say that joinning a clan is a better way to enjoy Darkfall, however it is not completly neccesary

Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Thanks. For the years I have lurked here I should have known to look better. The "search" function didn't help at all and I thought maybe I never hit send on the first post.
The search function doesn't exsist as far as I'm concerned. Technically it's a might as not exist but still.
