Just bought AoC and already having problems

Hey guys.  I got bored of WaR (played it everyday for 6 months).  Went out and bought AoC today.

Two errors on the initial instalation.  Had problems copying 2 files on the first cd disk.  I retried several times and no luck getting them.   Any ideas on what this is?

I eventualy clicked the ignore button.  Im hoping I will be able to do a "full file" check upon patching and redownload them.

Im still installing disk 2.   This has never happened to me on any mmo so Im sorta at a loss.

Have no real idea, as none of my friends had problems with installation, and i'm not technical savvy, will look around in the forums, tho.

Sounds like a problem with your dvd player / disk.

It's not so weird that people out to "raise hell" about their issues get their thread locked and issued a warning. Tahi is fairly strict about that on the EU forums, but she's really fair once you manage to word yourself in a non flammatory/ trolling way.

Yes: I have a problem with my installer. Does anyone know what this could be? Here is what is happening:

No: LOL FAILCOM PROGRAMMED DISC WON'T WORK SHITTY GAME /CANCEL SUB

  • I've had an error like that from a dirty/damaged disk.  It was from another game.  I cleaned the disk and after that it worked.

Could you explain more about problems with my dvd/disk?   Im sure its not my HD.   I really have no idea how to check if its my DVD drive.   Im actually using my DVD to install it as we skeak and its having no problems are even making a weird noise.

edited:  yes Ive considered its a damaged disk.   Unfortunately I bought the game and a botttle of vodka.   So I will not be driving back for an exchange today.    Im hoping to be able to patch in the files duing  or after its initial patch.    Im able to do this on all games I play so Im hoping its not an issue with AOC

You could always download the Age of Conan torrent. But you need a fast connection for that.

  • GargolaGargola Member Posts: 356

of course raising hell about a one not common issue, that might be a scratched disk, dirt, or many other things, would get a closed (not deleted, unless too abrasive, explicit about exploits, vulgar or similar), but you can perfctly post issues in their forums, i have done it, everyday people posts complaints and even those that are merely trolling just get closed when required by forum policy.

Actually the technical forum is a great place to search for issues and their fixes, even the oldest ones can be found there along with the most recent.

I honestly would have tried to reinstall the game, just in case, seeing as installing the game is a much shorter progress than having to patch it afterwards

You might be so unlucky that after you patch it, it won't work, and you have to do it all over again. But that's just my hunch.

Do "ignore" allow you to continue the installation? if so the patching should dload/repair anything that is not present or corrupted, unless the corupted files include the patcher.

Even so you should try and get the disks changed if they are not working properly.

I have a decent connection.   Im hoping to not have to download the whole game.    Ive been searching the official forums and its fukll of people having problems doing everyday patches.   So, Im trying to keep the downloads at a minium.  Pretty much the only reason I do like to buy the dvd version of the game.

I am currently downloading the first patch.   It says its "updating local files".  I am hoping this is also downloading the missing files.

Is this similar to EQ1 in the fact that you can do a full file check at the beginning of each login?   Anyone remember?   So it was always easy to get missing/corrupted files.

edit:  yes, clicking ignore allowed me to continue installation.   Im currently finished with the disks and on the first patch.   I understand patching will take a few hours so, hopefully it downloads the missing files.

Will certainly exchange the disks tomorow.    Im just not going to do that today.  So i figure ill go as far as I can go.  If I have to do it all again, Ill do it again.

it might be just bad dvd... nothing exactly to worry. since there is full check.. and each file can be redownloaded easily.. and patch 1.04 rechecks all files too , before applying patch.. so nothing is screwed..

it might be your hdd, and fragmentation in it orwhatnot..or your dvd player, to be frank there could be decent bunch of issues..  unless patches asks you to redownloaded 12gb .. i wouldnt worry too much

it does after patch 1.04, so dont worry.. you can always do full check after patching.. if you feeling insecure.. wont take more than 10-20 mins , depending on your cpu/hdd speed

This link worked for a few people. If you find out it is a disc problem and still looking to try the game.

    http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=569&menu=16

I can't find the post at the moment but I think someone posted a similar problem and they contacted Funcom support and they mailed them replacement discs.

Being nice goes a long long way. If you call and complain with a bad attitude you probably will get it right back at you. It is atleast worth a shot to see what they can do for you.

He's gonna need every drop from that bottle of Vodka when he's playing that single-player hell called Tortage.

This is honestly why I bought this game.

I like WaR, but I sorta miss quality PvE and soloing.   I havent solo'd since war was released.   So, Im kinda burnt out on grouping/guilding.   If WaR had decent PvE, it would be prefect.

When are humanity going to ever learn? Funcom the scam company, the lies and hype, the corrupted GM's and Devs that do not listen, re-charging of credit cards without time running out. Generally you are buying into the corruption man. You sure will need that bottle of vodka. Being conscious about your actions in this world, requires you to think before you act. I deeply feel sorry for you, your just another victim of Funcom's propaganda.

Have fun believing you have fun, and keep hoping! Hope is all you have in that game.

I do appreciate your warning.   Im the kinda guy that gets bored of mmo's, but only really likes to play mmo's.   Im sure ill play aoc for 6 months.   Nothing else for me to play.   Ive literally played them all.   Still downloading the longest patch in history.

Any files that you can't  install from the CD will be patch in by the patcher.

Had a friend with the same problem, my DvD record didn't work so good in hes computer for the trial, dunno why since it works good in mine.

If you got severe problems, contact support but I think either your DVD got slightly scratched/dirty or your player have some problem reading DVDs. The patcher will fix it up, even though patching will take a bit longer. I reccomend patching while you are at work or something anyways, at least with my 8meg connection it takes forever in any MMO.

I bough the game 2 weeks ago and one of my CD had scratches and FINGER PRINTS ! on it.  I tried everything to get them off, with no success, it's like the finger prints we're underneat the disk surface.  Anyway click ignore would skip the file but you'll have to download it via the patcher.   For me instead of having to download 2-3 Go of patches i had to download 6go.....

  • dinuriumdinurium Member Posts: 79

After 6 hours of patching Im finally able to play.    Only criticisms so far are why cant i min aoc  using my keyboard and Im not at all use to quests.   I feel like Im playing a toddlers game with all the hand holding.   Its pretty though, almost too pretty.   So far zero lag or buggs discovered

    what?

  • dinuriumdinurium Member Posts: 79

I cant seem to minimize the game with a keyboard press.  usually I can press the "window" key to minimize the game.    The only method I have found in AoC is to go to video options and then disable full screen.   Its not a huge deal

Edited to say the tortage island, or whatever it is, seems a bit much.   I prefer having freedoms from the beginning.  Meaning I can do whatever, whenever, however.   WAR is a great example of being able to do whatever you want from minute 1.   It seems I have to find my way through a quest line to progress.

I am very new to AOC.  Im level 5, so take this quip as it is, an ignorant statement from a noob.

You should be able to ALT+TAB to desktop. As your playing fullscreen like with most games there is no minimize option unless you play window mode, which if so will give a performance hit in your FPS.

No it is good to express thoughts here at start up. It does take a little getting used to, you will experience the night time part soon too. I found by level 15 I just wanted off Tortage already! Bear with it, it pays off. The way that tortage is set up especially near the end of that particular story arc has some great graphical world effects that couldn't be done in an open world.
