I was poking around my Account Page and...

I found a little gem at the bottom called, "Paid Services".  I looked into it and from the looks of things, Funcom is going to try it's hand at item malls or microtransactions at the least.

Yeah, too bad.  I was actually thinking about buy it too.  ><

Mne eto nado kak zuby v zadnitse.

They did that with AO, and even though there was some back slash, it took off perty well, and many people bought in to it.

Yeah but the difference is that AO is free to play...Age of Conan is most certainly not.  Doesn't even have a free trial.

It is for AO only, read the description before clicking to get into it. There are no "Dimension changes" for AoC. It has been there a while.

They have had an "item mall" in Anarchy Online for a while now...  Whatever term you choose to use for it.

I dunno about Age of Conan as I don't play anymore.

    *edit*

Someone hit reply faster than I did ;p

Holy shit they are opening item mall?!

I want to buy sword of King Conan for 50 bucks, please!

"Item mall" in AO is just for cosmetic purposes. You normally get service points based on your subscription type, but one can opt to buy more service points, e.g. to own all the fancy hoverboards instead of having just one. So it doesn't really affect the gameplay of those not bying extra service points.

    What he said is correct.

Threads like these used to pop up on the official forums on a regular basis (people too lazy to use the "search" function).

Yep, these are only for Anarchy Online.

Have there been any talks about adding item mall to AoC?

If the subscription numbers keep on dropping it might be a good idea. I doubt players would have a huge problem with someone buying weapons or armor from item mall. I know I wouldn't care about that. Not everyone has time to raid every night.

If item mall can save AoC then Funcom please swallow your pride and add it!

Oh I've got an even better idea! They should not add special combos restricted only to the item mall! I mean combos which are better, the more you pay the better combos you get! And new fatalities only for people who pays for them! And special mounts!

I would buy all the best weapons and combos (not fatalities, I'm not that vain) in a heartbeat and then go gank me some level 80's.

Ahh I really hope the subscription numbers fall enough for them to implement this.

Item malls just like the free to play MMOs? good idea! Brilliant! Then they can add advertising, I would love seeing "DELL XPS" posted all over the walls of tortage.

AoC may be able to survive with under 100k subs then.

I find it an abomination that people can pay real life money for items others must work for but whatever.

Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

That's for things like name changes, server transfers, ETC... Don't be a chicken little.

I think ingame ads would be too much. It would totally ruin immersion if I saw a McDonald's billboard on the shores of White Sand.

Maybe they could do ads that you see in your loading screen? That wouldn't hurt the immersion too much and Funcom would get some extra cash.

The paid transactions that are to be expected in AoC, for now at least, are paid server transfers.

In AO they introduced an item market, but unlike F2P (yes you can play AO for free, but without any expansion just the first booster pack is included, so you are basically limited in level, have no access to most of the content (but RK is huge and well designed) have no alien levels, nor access to the good items that expansions and boosters added, if you want that you have to buy the expansions and pay the monthly fee) the items you can buy don't impact gameplay, some you can get ingame, and most just add style to other ingame attainable (easy to attain even) options, that usually are more versatile.

You can only buy 2cool" or "cool looking" stuff, like hover boards (that allow you to perform some skater tricks, but add nothing), hover bikes (look cool, do the same job than a basic yalm -personal transport ), social clothing collection (that you can get ingame), Luxury Jobe apartments (cool apartment to be, you could get one as a preorder item with Shadowlands, all have access to a standard apartment) and stuff like that.

No weapons, no armor, no special power boosts, no powers, no levels, you can't buy anything that makes your character stronger or better, just stylish stuff.  If after 6 years that's what they implemented in AO what makes you think you'll be able to buy swords and the like ina AoC, and specially anytime soon?

Ads, even in the loading screens would be something people wouldn't tolerate, in AO they fit, the world is god for it, we live flooded with ads IRL, in the future this likely won't change, in TSW it would fit, in WoD Online by CCP it would fit, in Conan's World it would be horrid.

Are you saying that in Conan's world there was no advertising? That is just dumb. Advertising has been around for a long long time.

They could easily implement ingame adds without breaking immersion. Just place an NPC in every major city who is walking around with a big cart of fresh fish. But instead of shouting: "Fresh fish! Buy fresh fish!", he could be shouting: "iPhone!!! Buy iPhone!!".

I think players would get used to that pretty fast. You could also use that guy for some RP purposes or something.

  • GargolaGargola Member Posts: 356

I think i would puke if i saw something like that ingame.

A guy shouting out to sell vegetables and fish, quite cool, same guy trying tos ell you an IPhone, running shoes or pizza would be  completley disruptive in this world, would be like making an eic Roman Empire movie and having the cennturion checking his Rolex every 5 minutes and Ceasar's giving orders to his generals via videoconference.

Wait, what?! I assumed you were sarcastic in your first post in this thread so I just hopped on the sarcasm train and did the same. But now you have me confused. You actually want item malls and advertising? Thought everyone hated those things, especially in a p2p mmo. I'm pretty sure they would lose alot more money on actually implementing a item mall in an p2p due to all the players who'd problably leave.

Anyways as a member of an RP guild I can tell you that there is no single good RP moment to be had from some guy shouting "iPhone".

Or wait.. Are you kidding? Yes you must be! Or wait, no...?

I'm dead serious. I never joke about iPhones.
