Been playing mmorpgs, for a while so I can get a feel for how a games direction is headed after a newb area.  LotrO is still the number mmorpg in my book, and I doubt anything will change that, but that won't waiver any review I have of the AoC, if it is good , I will say it is , iif not, then take it for what it is.

May your stay be a pleasant one. Maybe if your into graphics wait till DX10 is out and finished, otherwise you can check that area out on testserver if your interested enough. Although remember it is still being tested.

As for the game itself, good luck, godspeed on your way to siege heaven!

I hope it turns out to be a game you enjoy.I look forward to hearing from someone that started now instead of at launch when i did.I personally felt the same way about it as i did with vanguard. The game could be outstanding. All the pieces are there for them to be if they all just fit together right. The problem is it takes time to put everything together ,and the negative feedback from early launches seems to stay for a long time.I would probally go back to vanguard just to craft if there was enough people playing to auctally sell items to.Havent ruled trying it out again either.

For anyone thinking im going to suscribe to AoC, buzz wrong, just looking at the games progress from launch. I doubt I will reach the seiging or anything, frankly can't stand some of the mechanics over all, but do like graphics. Compared to LotrO , they are about half a point down, LotrO edges out AoC simply because of the foliage and overall environment mechincs and world cohesivness.

I did the same thing today. Had some free time and spare money, digitally purchased AOC earlier this morning, been playing LoTRO lately. Enjoying it, never been really into sieges and all that, but wanted to give it a shot and check the graphics out. Original game, but not something I could see myself subscribing to. But the game did give me a pretty good first impression; haven't had any issues and the combat and everything seems solid. Probably should wait until I get out of Tortage to start speaking too much about it, tho.

The instability issues with Tortage were not that big at launch and were gone a couple of days later. AoC has its pros and cons, what attracted me back in the day, when I played it, was the interesting storyline and the beautiful graphics. I didn't go much above level 40-50 due to lack of content but up to then I was enjoying it more or less.

The starter zone is amazing but honestly the devs make you spend a bit too much time there. Last quest is level 18 if I am not mistaken but as a mage type you can hardly do it before level 22. And you get bored with it after level 10. And when you get away from it, prepare for a little disappointment ;)

This is the outcome I expected.

As has been noted many times before, any player should get out of Tortage to experience the real game. The world "cohesiveness" is 100% different.

    Thanks

"Foilage twisting around"  What does that mean..........?

With regards the graphics, i havent played LotRO since launch, but i left it because of the animation, which was not to my liking, my char looked as if he was floating above the ground, far from cohesive imho.

Animation and graphics go hand in hand but if the animation is not right then even the highest qualitly of graphics will not keep you immersed.

AoC has exteremly good animation, I wonder if the animation in LotRO has improved?

I think with all these games, Lotrol, VG, EQ2, WoW, WAR, GW etc, they are so similar that one has to find the flavour (graphics, Lore, UI, pvp type, etc) that suits you best and roll with that game, there is not much on the horizon and anything that does come out, in the fantasy theme, will be yet another flavour.

My initial reaction about the banjo was that it's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. But after a minute I realized it's pretty cool. At least it's something NEW in this genre where everyone copies WoW. Also I would imagine the banjo works pretty well in RP situation.

Age of Conan needs innovations like the banjo.

Agreed. The banjo innovation in LOTRO is so unique...

Uh...oops...almost forgot the EQ2 booty shake banjo playing..can't forget that.

No, AoC does NOT need that kind of innovation!

    lol

Well the RP players have been complaining since day one. Maybe if you gave them a couple of instruments they would get a chance for some interesting RP?

Conan books have instruments, why not the game?

Right now RP is mainly about sitting in a tavern telling boring stories.

Well.. I would advice you to NOT to resubscribe. Sure there has been improvements but not enough to get those hundreds of thousands of players back. But I'm just some random forum guy so you probably shouldn't trust me.

What you should do is wait for trials and winback program so you can decide for yourself. I'm sure trials will come as soon as they get DX10 client working.

No Banjos in Aoc, at least not during combat pls.

AoC will never be a mass market game attracting 1000s of players..........................

I didn't read the whole thread but I played AoC for a few months and really enjoyed it until I left Tortage.  For me the voice acting on the quest givers added some immersion to the game and it really helped the experience for me.  Then I left Tortage and I got really bored, the graphics finally wore off, and I left.  It is a beautiful game and there is a lot I liked about it but I did lose interest around lvl 26 or so.

    Hi .

I downloaded the game on Sunday evening , installation was a breeze .. setting up my account was too.

At the moment i am still in Tortage, i am a Aoc newb so i am doing every quest and learning as i play.

I find the graphics are very nice and the  gameplay is fun, the one thing that does annoy me is that you zone so much.

Upto now things have gone well so i can say that i am pleasantly surprized with Aoc.

    ....

Interesting, the Fans here recently cried out for a Re-Review. This guy is trying to do just that. Since the reviewer isn't gushing about the game, the fans  hi-jacked this thread to slag on a different MMO. Pretty sure I called this one from the get-go.

Can we get some moderation to clean this up and get the thread back on topic please?

  • HalpotHalpot Member CommonPosts: 204

Please stay on topic when posted on a thread or in a forum on the MMORPG.com forums. If you would like to talk about something non-MMO related, please use our Off-Topic section; if you would like to discuss a different topic relating to the game at question, please start a new thread.

Sibs; yea i find zoning in some areas, specially Tortage, to be too much, i guess some of the interiors, like the bar, are done like that to prevent overcrowding without interfering with the quests but still i'd love to just open the door and walk in.

Tortage however is fragmented into smaller areas than most other places out of it, zonning will still be there tho.  i hope you enjoy your experience, and please let us know the good the bad and the ugly!

I think this is what happened to a lot of casual players. They just got bored after Tortage.

People on this forum (myself included) are more or less hardcore MMO'ers so we look different things in a game. This is the reason why most users here say WoW sucks, yet it has 11 million subs. we have to remember that MMORPG.com users are a MINORITY when we talk about MMO population. Most players never visit this site.

I left the game after release, not because the voice acting finished after tortage but because the game had technical difficulties.

The voices are great and it's excellent that they are adding voices to more quests but it isnt a key feature for me, i played lots and lots of rpgs, and most of them on the market, specially mmorpgs dont have voice on quests.

I am subscribed again and i am enhjoying it very much, all those bugs and technical difficulties went virtually away, i still come across some bugs and dc's but not game breaking and very very rare.

I'm right behind you. Just ordered it today after watching a lot of posts and decided to dive in since I've been bored with every game I've been playing as of late. Now I just have to wait for the client and patching. See you there!

Did you play Guild Wars? I think you didnt, or at least not in the challenging areas of the game, the game is nothing like all of those games you describe.
