Just curious how many of you out there that like playing Darkfall will still play it if it becomes a cheaters paradise. I know some of you will say oh but the people at Aventurine won't let that happen to their game, all I have to say is wake up ask those folks playing Asheron's Call about allowing cheating in that game and what it means. Any MMO out there that has a harsh PvP enviroment will attract the hackers and cheaters regardless, and if the company that runs it can't keep up with it or monitor it affectively then the game itself is doomed to the mercy of the cheaters. Aventurine im sure will be hard pressed to keep up with the cheaters and exploiters of their game. But like I said if does become the cheaters paradise will you still defend it and say it is the best MMO to come out. I think this game has to be out awhile before people make bold statements like it being the best MMO. The MMO is only as good as the people who created it and how well they run the game. Time will tell if Darkfall will get the treatment from their creators and handle those issues that will ruin any MMO.

Darkfall has it's fair share of exploitation. I think most well played MMO's have had high profile exploits at one time or another. Currently, Aventurine is the one controlling how many enter their game (which is the complete opposite of how it should be but that's been well discussed) so I feel that they will be able to handle the people who don't play by the rules. They'll throw people out and then let in a few more in until they reach capacity again.

This is a multi-dimensional issue.
On the side of the developer, it rest on the ability and willingness of them to handle the cheaters/hackers whatever u call them. Some cheats are easy to spot, some are less. With client side processing, there is bound to be some room for manipulation, even tho a good client side management means less chance of fiddling with things that matters. I remember replacing the sound of the game in CoX (the damn rifle blaster with the targeting drone that gives out a constant sound I hate). I remember changing the looks of my character when I found out that some of the pixels are saved on my drive. These kinds of changes does not feed back to the game engine and cause less trouble. I read somewhere that DF relies on the client to resolve some of the system wide issues, I hope this is not true, or else we would have speed hack, hp hack (remember 500k hp in Diablo 1?). I actually remember someone trying to fiddle with the client software to draw the enemies bigger on the screen in a PVP game. If that works out, it gives him an unfair advantage as he can see them earlier and click on them better.
I also wonder how willing are the developers to tackle these cheaters, given their small team size, the long list of things they promised but not yet implemented ... oh well the usual indie company story. If they can handle all these cheaters, they might as well fix the game and make it more widely available.
On the side of the players, if the hack is well known, as in Diablo 1 days, it cancels out. Everyone has ithe cheat installed and it becomes a feature, like the addons of WoW (addons in WoW are NOT cheats). The game would cease to be interesting to some, who do not want to play by the hacks, and whoever left behind will be cheating against each other, and eventually have only a handful left to play with each other.
This really is a big issue for DF, which will easily kill off the game if it gets out of hand. One of the reasons I decided to leave this game aside for a year or so before taking another look.
In direct response to the title of your thread---
Of course I won't continue to play it.
But, I wouldn't consider it anything close to a cheaters haven as of this moment, from what I have seen and experienced. However, if the cheating population grows and starts to effect my gameplay and Aventurine doesn't do anything about it, of course I will quit.

who plays Darkfall anyway? a few thousand people?
hell Neocron was better years ago and only like 20k played at most.
and Neocron was alot more polished and stable at start although it was alot more limited by its engine.
Dont think the cheaters are the worst of they're problems.. they got bigger issues that cant solve with their limited crew and money.
id quit pretty fast
i played l2 for almost 5 years and while the game was young and exiting for me gold farmers and botters didnt bother me.
then i got more and more involved into the pvp aspect/ guild competition (wich for me would be the core of darkfall) and realized that its virtually impossible to compete with people that bot 24/7
in a game like wow or lotr wich for me would be about exploration and fun i couldnt care less about cheaters but as soon as the game gets competitive id rather leave it then be forced to cheat along. i wouldnt play chess/ football/ any other kind of game either in an environment where cheating is common.

It already is a cheaters haven, I'm sure there are those who find nothing wrong with macroing and frankly I don't either but I don't see why I should be severely punished both for playing solo and playing without cheating.
This game is merely EVE Online in a fantasy environment, no I won't acknowledge the things they've done in the game beyond archery because its the same as anything else out there.
This game will appeal to the big ass pvp clans and long-term subscribers just like EVE does and Aventurine clearly decided on that the moment they decided to listen to the loudest whiners, its a shame of course they fail to realize that there are far more sensible and quiet people out there that simply want to play a fun game.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
Are you blind or just a freaking fanboy? DF is already a cheaters haven.

I'd quit really fucking fast.
Fortunately I haven't seen any cheaters yet. And AV is also coming down hardcore on hackers banning accounts lef t right and centre.
WoW nerds beware, I come equipped with lazers and anti-QQ missiles. If you mess with me, I will $%£@ you.
I would be sad, as it is such a fun game, but I would not continue to play if it became a "cheater's paradise".
Not as ridiculous as darkfall with radar, teleport, stamina, speed hacks.etc..and im sure there are more hacks out there. This is 2009. Not 1999.
Seems like almost everything about darkfall is triple gen backward. It is definitely not NEXT GEN. It would be an insult to current big production MMOs.

last time i checked nearly mmo ever released including Wow, UO, etc have all had those hacks. Out of every hack, speedhack and teleport hacks have always been the most common in all mmos. From what I've heard there are even still teleport and speedhacks in some MMOs. In any case, Darkfall doesnt even seem to be warning players the hack or unattended macro, they just outright ban them, which is a step in the right direction in preventing cheating. They are already preventing cheaters. They dont give them a second chance, which also causes people to not hack in the first place for fear of getting banned.

Edit: Holy crap. I'm in that video. At 4:58, I say "It's a server, not my 13 year old niece. In either case, I think she can take it" in race chat.
"cheaters paradise" such a completly unrealistic prediction.
All mmo's have cheaters in them, specially at first, like all other mmo's this is only a marginal problem.

Banning accounts for cheating hacks is a great deterent, as far as the macro thing, cant those people just be killed? They are bots right? Im just asking, havent been lucky enough to get a account yet

It's also a good way to free up server space and get double the money for doing less work.

You wouldn't understand
First of all, I'm surprised the question needs an answer. But obviously, the Question is greater than the Answer...and that is why you asked it.
IF you consider that Darkfall is currently limiting subscribers, then hacking/cheating is currently under control. Right now, it is idiotic to do so. If you get banned, you may be waiting days, weeks, or longer to get a new account. There's no telling how long it will be before you get to "give away" your money so you can play (or get banned) again.
That, in itself, is more than likely, limiting the hacks/cheats.
I personally would be interested in reviewing a type of subscriber implementation that basically determines your server immediately. In other words, if you sign up, you're automatically assigned to server X. If you want to play on Server Z with your buddies, you sign up for the transfer (free, of course) and wait for the next open slot.
Continuing with this subcriber implementation concept, what if each server allowed 5000 players. Once all of its slots were filled, the next server starts receiving subscribers. If an account is banned or a cancelled, the server opens up a slot. At that time, the waiting list is activated and (first come, first serve) a player is transferred. If there is no waiting list, the empty slot is filled by the next subscriber.
This indirectly affects gold sellers/hackers/cheaters and so on. Usually, they'll all be lumped on server Z, only to be banned before they can do any damage. Meanwhile, Server A, B, C...and so on, has developed into a community of people who actually care about playing the game.

I recall when DAOC had a pretty big problem with radar, and it was disheartening, but I still played and eventually they managed to track that down and pretty much stop it.
I expect Aventurine will be able to do the same, just a matter of when.

LOL I'm not a fanboy or a troll of Darkfall lol, just was seeing what was people point of view on this game in terms of cheaters. I can see now that it seems it will end up in the category of a cheaters game.

No i won't i hate cheaters if they get upper hand i leave simple as that.
