MBJ's State of the Game 11th March'09

http://www.war-europe.com/#/news/?id_news=en395&lang=en

There isn't one thing he has missed, which is causing me consternation with this game - if these promises are upheld, this really will be an awesome game...if!

If I had to isolate two particular points, they would be <1> and <8>.  Performance for me still feels extremely unstable, and I now have my 5th toon on his way to 40 because the end game is BOREHAMMER and 'abilities' wise, absolutely pointless in progression.

The 'piece de resistance' is obviously the new 'Darkness Falls' - believe me, if it is half as good as the original dungeon in 'DAoC', it will blow your tiny minds.  I am suddenly extremely exited for the future of this game.  Woot!

Always a great read from Mark Jacobs, they've been doing this kind of stuff for over a decade.  Already made a ton of great changes based upon feedback and the future direction looks promising.

Like I've been telling everyone, you can play now and get your 40's or wait a year and enjoy the game after it's received some more conent.  Reality is reality, you just aren't going to find a company that can release a fully contented game with 100% polish.  The $$ doesn't add up.  Not even Blizzard has ever released a full content mmo thats 100% polished.  The game has all of the pieces in place though.

As far as I see it, add the dungeon, keep tweaking endgame PVP (heck just throw old frontiers in there and you're all set) and you'll have a long successful game.

Which it only will be. Half as good that is.

All in sounds good, give it another 6 months and I might think of resubbing.

Thanks for the link. Interesting read.

I'm glad they're not ignoring Scenarios while they work on oRVR. I like both so it's good to see they're both getting attention.

  • Looking good as usual. Should be fun to chop things (Order players in particular) to pieces in the tombs.

Depends on how well they deliver.

At least they have an accurate, player feedback idea of what needs fixing. More than most companies.

There is no doubt that Mythic is working really hard polishing WAR and adding extra contents. They seem to have a solid plan for WAR's future. Patch 1.2 just rolled out and they are already talking abt their plan for 1.3 and future patches. They are very serious and dedicated to WAR. It is very reassuring to see all this efforts as a customer.

This is what gets me about WAR RvR stuff.  Its half as good as DAOC like they cut out a hemisphere of their brains.  Then you get people saying even if its half as good it will be awesome.

Doesn't this strike people as strange?  Why can't Mythic make something similarly as good in WAR.  Yet they have consistently failed except for a few combat mechanics things (which seems to get thrown out the window in t4).

Some people want to act like since they liked DAOC WAR has great stuff, but the fact is most of the stuff they "share" or for which mythic uses the same name at least, is just not that great.

I mean look this is not really some big experiment in WAR.  This is not some crazy revolutionary thing where they went for the brass ring and no one will know if it works.  They should have some idea of what they are doing.  They don't.  In fact if you read between the line for the RvR bullet points it basically says "We know there are problems and we know what is lacking, but we don't know what the solution will be."

I mean we have about 6 months now where all the various lessons of "meaningful" in RvR that could be taken from DAOC just weren't.  The only reason they are even considering a Darkness Falls type thing is because a lot of people said it was cool.

I wish it wasn't the case but they are shooting blind.

This is what they've been saying since beta,6 months after the game went live they are still one step behind and never really catching up .
