Eq2.. So good it hurts?

NoisyMonkeyNoisyMonkey Member Posts: 220

I dont know about you guys, but yesterday was my first day of paly, and I played for about 6 or 7 hours.. I took a break every hour or less, since when laod times started getting to a min or 2 I had to restart comp. Anyways, my left eye hurts to move in its socket.. I dont know about you.. but that doesn't sound like a good thing.. Well, off to play eq2 some more.. Any suggestions/ideas what could be happening would be welcomed :P.. I am only 15, my eyes shouldn't be dying yet.. maybe its that I was underwater for 1/2 of my play time...

Same thing happens to me sometimes when I play games for a long period. It's probably just eye strain. When it happens to me, I usually lie down and take a nap in a dark room. I remember one time in EQ, when we were on a raid, I was on for 12+ hours and my head was killing me. ::::38:: OMG, see what games make us do? * clicks the EQ2 icon on his desktop and prepares to log in* ::::02::

    Hey NoisyMonky,

Just a FYI....make sure your "refresh" rate is at least 75mhz anything lower will strain your eyes a great deal...especially for that length of time image

You can find it in your Performance settings in game. If your desktop is already that or higher you can click the button that say "sync to desktop" or something along that line image

    Good luck!

My god, NoisyMonkey, go see an optometrist!!!! Now!!!

That seriously sounds like you have a problem. Just read what your wrote! Does that sound right?
Don't let the problem get worse.

When I play long sessions, all I get is eye strain (which means it becomes hard to focus on things quickly). It shouldn't actually hurt to move your eye! ::::04::

When your body starts hurting physically because of video games, it means to STOP PLAYING!

Like any addiction, if you start noticing side effects and you continue, you will just make it worst.

Aw well, I'll shut up now and light a good cigarette...

    **COUGH**  **COUGH**  **COUGH**

Damn lungs, why am I always coughing... I'm only 23 years old too... but cigarettes taste and make me feel so damn good.  It passes time too.  Cigarettes are definatly my best friend.  Bah well, I guess when I'm 40 years old and I start getting lung cancer, I'll stop smoking.

I guess the day you get a heart attack, like what happened to some people in japan who actually DIED in front of their computers cause they play too much MMORPG, that will be the day you decide to slow down on MMORPGs and video games all together.

But hey, MMORPGs are very addictive!  Only you can make yourself slow down from playing too much.  Not us.

Same as my parents and friends who tell me smoking is bad, but I keep doing it.  Only I can stop myself from smoking, but I keep doing it... why?  Please can someone help me... oh wait, I just wrote how to help myself from above.  nevermind...

Being addicted to something can suck... in the long run!

Yes. I have got to quit smoking too. I am running a marathon is March so I have got to cut back or quit.

The first symptoms [to me, at the least] to look for to show that you should quit and A) go to bed or B) Take a walk outside are a stiff back, mild headache, a "hot and chilly" feeling that a fever or a lack of sleep sometimes produces, even when your computer room is very hot or very cold, and glazy eyes, in which you are looking at the screen but you constanly go out of focus.

I am sure that it can't be good for your total health, but those all nighters, playing your favorate game are so satisfying...

your moniters refresh rate may be too high. Some times my eyes will start to water because it is refreshing at a such a fast rate.

Wait, Roland_Aseph said to make sure your refresh rate is at least 75 mhz, and you say if it is to high it can strain your eyes. How high is high? I know I read something about it awhile ago but my old monitor couldn't be set to the rate and since then I haven't been able to find the article. Anyone know whats best?

Keep it at 65. seems fine to me.

I remember reading somewhere that a refresh rate on a CRT below 70(?) will cause noticeable flicker. Maybe it was 65??? Anyway, I would probably go with 75-85.

On the other hand, I have a flat panel and it only has one refresh rate - 60.

I would definitely get that eye checked out. ::::04::

Kinda suprised no one suggested this, but honestly, only play with one eye, get a eye patch and give that one some rest. :)

Uh guys... you can tell him to change as many configurations on his PC as he wants.

Honestly, the only configuration he could do is lower the brightness of his monitor so low that it's damaging his eyes less than if the brightness was at normal.  But that could make'em worst in another way cause then he's forcing his eyes to try and see what's on the screen.

I mean it's a proven fact that people that spend too much time in front of a computer screen without an Anti-Glare Filter of some sort, will end up having eye problems or will require glasses.

So it could be EQ2, or any other game... you spend too much time on your PC, you suffer the consequences later on.

So I'll finish this topic and go light up a cancer stick, if you all don't mind. :)
