Been playing in the beta since December. The recent massive change to the combat system has destroyed this game. Most classes are now nerfed to the point that it is a super grind. The GMs on the forum actually have the nerve to say it is "to let the player enjoy the content LONGER". That is hilarious. Translation: grind and spend in th CS to try to relieve the grind a bit! This is really sad, because it looked like a good game. It is also quite underhanded to suck in the beta players with one thing and creat a nice starting player base, then pull the rug out and destroy their characters. These people are the typical sleazy f2p bunch.
Update: They finally "released" the game. What a joke. The nerfing of most classes was not fixed with the release patch. This is a big grind and the lag is terrible. Every other toon you see is a mage because the other classes suck. What started out as an awesome f2p game is just another money grubbing endeavor.
I also note since release, and the "Great Nerfing" the rating here has dropped from 8.4 to 8 in a week. Expect more of the same. But now you can buy an ostrich mount for $18 bucks or so!!! That's their idea of a game improvement. If you haven't played it get a copy of Guild Wars for $15 on ebay or amazon. It blows this CS grind away.

You don't seem to understand how the class system works; they didn't nerf all the classes, they brought them back to how they should have been in the 1st place. PvE is not end game content; guild wars & server wars are. You will see why the classes work the way they do now when those feature become available. Further more, RoM is a party focused game. You should learn to play in a party. Judging by your angry message, you are either a Rogue or a Scout (which both were too OPed since day 1, even after several class adjustments).
That doesn't explain why Mages were given a boost and are doing waaay more damage than Rogues or Scouts ever did.
Personally, I think they wanted to revamp the combat system (as they stated) but missed the mark on balance by a fair bit. Hopefully they will get it straightened out by launch. I wouldn't give up on RoM just yet.
Small adjustments will still be made, I'm sure. But we have to consider that our class sytem is not only PvE solo ginding focused, it's also built for PvE, PvP and major clan & server activities, so maybe we're missing the big picture. Thing is, there will be always an "OP" class that ppl will complain about
Here are my problems with Runes of Magic.
1. I can't stand all the gold sellers spamming. Every time I log in, I have to update my ignore list. Just give me the ability to kill them and the problem would be solved.
2. Nothing I craft is really worth the effort to craft (so far). I have logged in very little for the last 30 days, so maybe this has changed, but besides alchemy and cooking, you can find better items from monster loot. And you can easily find healing potions and such from monster loot as well. The crafting system seems to work fine (kinda simple for my taste, but still works), but wasn't very productive to use. I found all my characters migrating towards alchemy and cooking.
3. Not so solo game. I realize that Runes of Magic is mostly for group play. For myself, I enjoy grouping by choice, not by necessity. I mean, I suppose I could ignore quests and not group, but I don't think I'd be playing the game much at that point. Likewise, I seem to get on the server at times when there are relatively few people.
4. No diplomacy. Few MMOs already provide diplomacy of any sort. Neither does Runes of Magic. I think its a fine game, but I would like to see more interaction such as positions in royalty, stations in the guard...etc. Vanguard had an interesting diplomacy system, and I hear Darfall has a very flexible system. As of today, I'm aware that Runes of Magic is allowing Guilds to build their own Keeps. I guess we'll see how it goes.
Once again, I'm not anti RoM - it's a pretty nice game, especially since its free. Just that I like more flexibilty in my development and options.

PvP with permanent stunlock and spammable multitarget total CC? And yet with this the only PvP is 1v1? Well, except the pointless PvP servers. This game is even more PvE than WoW was on release.
Small ballance issues? You mean class with AOE dots ticking for more than other classes hit with single target attack and healing for more than primary healers, brute forcing solo where well build 3 man party fails? You do not have to put 1+1=? on beta servers unless you are completely illiterate.
It is still in beta? I still remember Hunters soloing most bosses in WoW with elite pets till they fixed it to scale with the player rather than retain their elite stats. If these issues remain couple months down the road we got a problem but i am willing to give them a month or so pass like i did with WAR and AoC.
The class system is in permanent adjustment; apart from most MMOs, Frogster decided to use the entire beta period to full extent so they still test things even a few days from full relase; however ppl seem to think that OB = in fact full release, so the game should remain pretty much 'untouched' (which is not the case).
From CB to OB, most classes were OPed at some point. in the 1st day of CB, the Scouts were doing roughly the same ammount of dmg Mages do now - and soon after they found a bug that allowed them to double their dmg; then the Rogues were seriously OPed, with Blinding Stab doing a very high percentage dmg based on weapon power; then the Mages with that Meteor rain blasting everyone and everything. All this time the warriors were underpowered due to energy regen issues. So you see, there were some serious balancing measures to be taken and still the system will be fine tuned some more, so yeah, it's only a matter of time until the Mages' dmg will be fixed.
The difficulty in balancing the classes come from the core of the fighting system, which is the dual class system; so they need no tonly to balance one class on its own, but also how it works with any other secondary class, and that's where the problems start, 'cause you can't simply make everybody happy, since all the players want to be pure pwnage in PvE, PvP gods, boss killers, super tanks, ultra nukers, all that in just 1 char.
As for PVP on PvE servers, many of the features are not implemented yet; ppl will have enough chances to fight other players, from 1vs1 Arenas to guild wars, PvP instances and even Server vs Server wars. Patience!
Considering my experience with Frogster I will be avoiding any game they publish. I sent them a note experessing my dislike and opinion of their hefty death penalty (Money and debt ) and got back ....if ytou don't like play another game. My wife and I were both shocked. I saved the email just in case anyone wanted to read it.
They sell some items in the CS shop that protects the players from debt after death 24 hours after use...what did you think they'd respond? Of course they want to sell their stuff, so I'm afraid the system is here to stay. Agreed, quite annoying (and very time consuming at high lvls), but debt can still be erased if you're willing to sacrifice same dailies XP. It's still a hot subject and I too feel it's way too restrictive, but what can you do...
They were quite nasty to you. And if anybody thinks for one minute these guys have any other agenda than making $$$$ they are mistaken. They have nerfed the classes to make the grind longer so you have more exposure per content and spend at the CS more, especially when the grind tempts you to get some boosts that cost real money as well. It's all part of the sleazy plan. Free my butt.
Even the GM in the forum said we want you to "appreciate" the leveling more!!!
About the only class not nerfed is mage. Read the ROM forums. Two thirds of the players are complaining vehemently and many are leaving.
Scouts and rogues were not overpowered at all.
When you have so little content and are going to produce little more, you need pvp for endgame to say you have something.
I have a W, S, R, P all leveled from 25 to low 40s. They all are nerfed.
Avoid this game. It is a waste of time and likely money.
Give them time to balance it.
Of all the F2P mmos out there this is one of the very best, the devs know that and I don't think they'll want to screw that potential up.
That is not true; Warriors are finaly working as they should have in the 1st place. Sure, we've lost 300 dmg power from our 2H wepz, but we gained a good regen rage rate and 2 powerful AOEs. That's more important because the rest of the balancing issues will be addressed in the near future, but in the meantime we can finally fight without feeling so underpowered. I can kill mobs as fast as before (if not faster) and still have enough rage to spare (not to mention warriors are not rage pot dependant as before). Maybe (depending on the chosen secondary) some will have to change the weapon type and even relearn how to play theri toon, but W is better than before.
Like I said, S and R are the only ones tha complain about the patch because the simply can't understand they can't outpower the W and M with ranged attacks and back stabs while wearing flimsy leather armor. R should be burst DD, but somehow they managed to remain serious constant DD with since CB.
1. Gold seller spam is in every game. Nothing new here. My solution to gold seller spam is simple. anyone who spams chat regardless of being a gold seller or not should be instantly flagged as pvp and killable by everyone in the game. it takes care of gold spam and idiots who spam channels because they feel like it.
2. There is some nice stuff later on but you have to get the crafting pretty high. I been getting some high level 38 recipe drops that appears to be pretty dang nice.
3. I honestly dont see how you can say that. The only time you have to group is when you have an elite to kill. 95% of the quests in the game are solo quests. you really only need to group for a few minutes to take out whatever elite quest your on and then go your merry way. This is probably one of the most solo friendly games I have ever played.
4. And by flexability you mean one game out of hundreds of mmo's has diplomacy and you think it should be in all? I played around with that system in vanguard. Didnt really interest me to much but I wont argue that having more stuff for people to do in a game is not a bad idea. The more things you can do, the more diverse people you get playing. I reserve my judgement on anything that comes from darkfall as it is so limited in the amount of players that are being allowed to play, I cant call it a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game yet.
I agree and could add to the list but I'm done bashing. I'm going to take Frogsters advive and find a new game.
Maybe you should stick to single player RPG's I just cant understand why people want to play an MMO just to solo all the time. MMO's should not be a single player game with a chat box.

There are plenty of people who disagree with you on the ROM forums. I won't get into a "no it ain't", "yes it is" with you about it and will just say if people want to try it let them have a go, but they will be disappointed as polls show 2 out of 3 are who are there now. Not to mention a barrage of negative posts on the forums. If anybody doubts this, just check out the ROM forums. And it is even more negative in Europe from what I read. Just read the other posts in this forum. You are one of the very few defending this fiasco. Do you work for them?
Maybe you should stick to single player RPG's I just cant understand why people want to play an MMO just to solo all the time. MMO's should not be a single player game with a chat box.
Some people like to do both. Maybe mostly solo but have the option to group when they like. Grouping is great, but sometimes there just is no group doing what you need to do.
1. I don't know what the situation is on the US forums, but on the European ones things are far from what you're saying; after the initial shock ppl are trying to find ways to make the classes work and fine tune the class balancing system. The good thing about RoM is that it had a tight & helping community since the beginning so ppl understand it's better to find a solution that bitching all day long about it. Again, you're wrong not everyone is complaining, only the S and R are complaining all the time since they were hit the most by the patch.
2. I don't care if you agree or disagree with me; I've played a class that was underpowered far too long while others were able to 1 hit everything. Now those OPed classes got their dmg lowered (W were affected too, the 2H wepz are almost pointless now) while M's dmg were buffed to an insane ammount. These will be fixed asap. I've played RoM since the very 1st day of CB and I've seen this game turning from a completely chinese game (and I mean 90% of the content was in chinese, including mobs & item names, quests, and so on) to one of the most enjoyable F2P currently running. I don't play P2P games so I won't go into that P2P vs F2P debate, but IMO RoM is one of the best free MMOs currently available. Like I've said I've seen a lot of changes made to the class system (all classes were working completely different from now at first) and that's why I'm sure more things will be changed in the future too. I don't like to quote myself , but I've said this before: balancing the RoM classes is not as easy as in other MMOs, because players are playing a combo of 2 merged classes instead of 1 and the way those combos work together differs from one secondary to another, even with the same primary class.
And FYI, I still see Scouts of equal lvl hitting 700 - 800k (and even 1k) per hit, while I (as a 2H warrior) am able to hit only for 4 - 500 per hit. And they were not OPed....right
And NO, I'm not working for Frogster, nor for Runewalker, silly The game has currently a hype lvl of 8.28 - do you think they would even bother to pay ppl to come in here and...do what? LOL!
Maybe you should stick to single player RPG's I just cant understand why people want to play an MMO just to solo all the time. MMO's should not be a single player game with a chat box.

Its not just that, people like the social interaction but grouping can be a hassel sometimes and thats what the turn off is. Looking for the group organizing the group controlling the group can be a hassel and if they play an RPG there comes an end no updates no new content to the game they like till a whole new version of it or an expansion
I've been in the game since OB as well and I have to say, that the game is well done...
There's a grind now..? So what? If you can explain the fun of rushing to end-game without seeing half of the game, I'd be glad to hear id
Eventhough I havn't visited the game for the last 2 months or so, a friend of mine does. Last thing I've seen was (as usual), heavy yelling of RMTs. Thisis a reason for me not to visit the game anymore. As usual, a F2P game ends up in a RMT heaven, and appearently GMs don't do much about it...
Wow, I mean just wow at people's complaint about this game.
People are mad at:
The devs for trying to balance combat.
For them to do that they needed to gut the old system and make it so they can change the careers easier. That includes changing stat tables. I am a scout, and yes my dps is down but my survivablitly is up, and I am able to play the class to its full extent and purpose. They gave the scout melee skills for a reason, yet people are mad now because they have to do some melee because they cannot one button I win with "Wind Arrow" any more. The Devs then describe the purpose of the class is support DPS with the ability to just bombard mobs with status effects. Me personally thats why I love my scout, but people can't kite as well any more and their pissed. I understand that Mages do ridiculous damage, but to think that scouts won't get a boost and mages get a nerf before the game is released is dumb.
The Game is not Soloable.
Absolute and complete BS. I have soloed a lot of my levels in this game. And at the higher levels yes it does make you party some, but not a whole lot. Again I am a scout, I am the class that was so called Nerfed, yet I have not had any problems so far whatsoever with soloing. And plus its an MMORPG, you are supposed to party sometimes. My god people a little partying is not so bad.
The Game is a Grindfest
First off even if the game was (which it isn't) why is that superbad. I never saw the fun of reaching level cap as fast as possible. Makes me lose interest in a game faster by making hit end cap so fast. But the game is not a grindfest at all. Their are so many ways to gain experience it is ridiculous. You can quest (ridiculous amounts of quests in this game) you can do Daily's 10 times a day which give you a butt load of exp plus tokens that can be used in the item shop. On top of that, join a guild that has a guild castle and their is a good chance someone in your guild can buy furniture which gives you an EXP/TP rest bonus everytime you enter your castle. You do not even have to spend a dime in the item shop (which to this moment I have not spent any money on this game) and you still can make leveling easier.
The Death Penalty is too steep.
Omg who ever said needs to be slapped with an old MMORPG death penalty across the face and realize the death penalty is absolutely NOT steep. You do not lose experience. Instead you get EXP debt which all you have to do is pay off the debt with killing mobs or god forbid Turn in one freaking quest, and your debt is erased and you gain exp and Tp like you used to. I have had debt of up to 3000 exp 1000 tp and I erased that in one quest turn in. And who ever said it costs money, what in the hell are you talking about. The only way it costs money is if you die continually and you never bothered to repair your equipment in between each death so instead of fixing an item that has turned yellow your fixing an item that has turned red. Of course your going to pay out the butt to fix your gear. If you fixed it while it turned yellow you save 75 percent of ya gold cost., Heck if your on a PVP served and get PK'ed you don't even get a death penalty or item ware.
The Devs are not listening to my complaint. They are not personally taking time out of their day to answer my question personally.
Newsflash people. NO DEVs, in any games gives you this kind of personal service. The world does not revolve around you. Pop your ego, and understand, your complaint is about the millionth complaint they had that day. How in the hell are they going to answer everyone personally?
I am sick of the gold Spammers.
4 words for you. Gold Sellers Be Gone. Great freaking addon which blocks all spam messages and automatically puts them in your blacklist. Works like a freaking charm and very easy to install. Curse.com has the addon. But even so, what game does not have a crap load of gold spammers??
Now for the real, this game is not perfect, but it is still a great game, and for a F2P and I am super impressed with what they did in the game. I for one like what they did with the careers, because they made the game more challenging, so people actually have to have some skill to be successful in this game. Thats going to make it so PVP and Guild vs Guild is more entertaining because people who just button spam all day will not be able to do so anymore. I understand Mages are kind of ridiculous right now (but not unkillable. I have found that finding mages who are red and 2+ levels ahead of me still pretty easy to kill if you get the jump on them and they cannot throw up their shield, their fireballs do hurt though, and again I am a scout people people say have been nerfed into ueslessness).
Call me a fanboy all you want, but I am loving this game. It does have an item shop but for the most part you do not need to spend cash on the game to still have fun. You might need to spend some money to compete at high levels and you are an absolute tard when it comes to MMO's and you want to make the game easier, but it is not a neccesity.
That is my two sense.
xover,
thanks for explaining how things are and how exagerated some comments regarding the new combat system can be. I mean as a CB tester I got all my chars wiped out at least 3 times; did I complain? No, because it was necessary! I was actually one of (at that time very few) that insisted on a general wipe after some major changes and especially before OB) so that the OB players would have a fair chance to start at the same lvl as the CB testers. After the game went OB there were at least 2 times that required full TP reset. Again, nobody complained because ppl understood such changes are necessary. I'd rather see such balance tests conducted a few times more if needed rather than seeing some classes broken forever. Remember that all the data we have now is compiled from 1 vs 1 PvP matches, but once the guild vs guild system would be in place I'm sure even more issues will surface and maybe some more changes will be operated. And I have a feeling we're soon going to see a complete overhaul of the elite skills, since some of them are rather redundant or completely useless.
All in all, I prefer to play a game which goes through such changes 'cause it shows is alve and the publisher is willing to do far more than just translating the game to English and milk the CS shop.
Maybe you should stick to single player RPG's I just cant understand why people want to play an MMO just to solo all the time. MMO's should not be a single player game with a chat box.
Just for the record, Who say's and where is it written?

so only group when they want to? So that equates to grouping when they have to, to get shinney loot. Getting a good group to run the zone is half the challenege. If there is no PuG group doing what you need right then and there, You have 2 options, start making one or wait. There is ample amount of solo content in RoM way to much so, to be having this conversation.
