former COH/SWG player wanting to know if EQ2 right for him

LumaLuma Member UncommonPosts: 34

hi, i am a former coh player wondering if eq2 is right for me? I am wondering if there are any former coh players,   that now plays eq2 out there that can answer my questions about eq2

My three main questions are: 1. How is the grouping system done? is it easy to find a group of the core class? Is it like coh were i could hit the seek team button, and go do some of my solo quests till someone offered me group. Are there a certian area of characters my lvl doing other quests that i could easy ask them to help? could someone maybe post a looking for group window screen? 2. Can I work quests around my timetable and not my timeable around quests, like can i do a quest in 20 mins but save the more epic quests for the weekend? Am I able to leave quests mid way through if need and come back two days later and pick up were i left off, or go help another player than come back to my quest? Are quests kind of like coh were some missions were mini-quests but tied together to make a bigger  grander quest. 3. Is there a good nav system like in coh were there were waypoints to npcs and quest starting points(I know this cuts out some of explore factor but would rather sreach a quest area than sreach for a quest giving npc) are there insreted quest zones were I don't have to worry about creature spawn happing after i all ready beat that monster.Lastly are the different zones different enough exit to these clearly marked so i don't run around two similar zones for an half an hour trying to get some where.  please give vaid answer, please no fanboy stuff or wow. vs eq2 things -thanks Luma

    1.  I have found it extremely easy to find a group if you want one, and to solo if you don't.  I know this is true for priests and fighters, but I haven't heard anyone complaining about finding groups in the Mage or Scout class either.  Honestly the best groups have at least one of each, so all are in demand, and yes you can put up LFG (looking for group) to allow people to search for you and issue you an invite.

    2. Quests are EVERYWHERE and I do mean everywhere.  You can have up to 50 quests in your quest journal at any given time, and there is no time limit on them.  I have found that if you collect a bunch of them you usually complete something or make progress toward it just in the normal course of play.  It is a very different system than in EQ Live where one step lead to the next and you camped things for hours.  Mosts of the quests here are kill so many of x mob, then return and collect your reward to the person who issued it.  My biggest problem is remembering to check my quest journal for completed quests so I can go collect my reward, because you naturally make progress toward quests completions as you adventure.

    3. Yes there are waypoints that makes finding your way around much easier on most things in the cities.  There isl a "fog of war" on maps in adventuring areas, but as you discover the areas you have easily accessable maps in game.

    4. Quest zones and adventuring zones are instanced so you have plenty of mobs and access to content.

I love the game, and am finding both the adventuring and tradeskills a great deal of fun.  My only complaint is that SOE allowed the servers to become WAY overloaded, and the lag and server crashes due to them not providing enough servers at launch is pretty bad.  They are working to correct the problem, but IMHO the only way they will adequately solve this problem is to split many of the servers, and they seem to be avoiding that and asking folks to just ditch their characters and make new ones on less populated servers.  Naturally folks don't want to do that and give up the experience and progress they have made thus far.  There are naturally a few other bugs and glitches, but aside from the EXTREME over population problems, the game and launch went extremely well I think.  If they don't do something to thin things out a bit however, they are likely to have some very unhappy customers . . . people are already screaming pretty loudly about server and zone crashes and roll backs.  I guess the game was even more popular than they anticipated. image
