So I joined eq 2 at launch and played the free month and quit. A lot of reasons, stability, my computer sucked, at first glance didnt like play style, and my friends were in a different game. Needless to say I didnt give it a chance. Now with a modern comp and a 7 month mmo abcense... I NEED MY FIX. I love playing big armor guys that can realy unleash when they want too. Solo prefferably since most are at the high end. How is the lvling rate, exploration to lvl questing ratio. What makes this game cool? its eq 2 so im not going to play this for pvp. Help me out. Why should I play your game?!?!?!

probably not what you want to hear, but just try the trial
everquest2.station.sony.com/freeTrial.vm
- start in one of the newer cities Neriak, Kelethin, or Gorowyn
so you can experience the newer content

its a veeeeeery slow dl for me for some reason, at 6% and looks like its going to take a day lol. would it be faster if i install from orig disks then update?
trial is actually the entire game
Station Launcher will help speed up the download but it will probably take a few hours

yeah its dling through station launcher, got that first. Must be a bad connection on my end which is very possible. Are you still an active player? have a guild of cool ppl to talk to while I explore?
I'm an active player on the blackburrow server but my guild is a raiding guild -- even tho I do not raid
- I know many in the guild from years ago in the original everquest
me?
I just quest or mentor down to join pickup groups in dungeons

Antonia Bayle is always a good server, and I think the most populated too if population bothers you. It's also a roleplay server so you can roleplay if you want to, but won't find anyone shoving it down your throat.
Autofire
if you do the trial most if not all the features are disabled. so everyone that p2p most add you as a friend to do any /tells ingame and thats really the only way you can communicate with people ingame that are not in your zone. plus grouping is almost impossible since you cant group with people out of your zone.
just a warning
dangdang lvl 15 monk nagafen server
very good point regarding the trial

this dl is retarded. windows restarted an hour after i fell asleep, and station needed an update so its sayin 4 hours left so im aiming my maybe midnight ill be playing lol.
Ok, I too wanted to come back and try EQ2 again. I've been playing for about 2 weeks now, I rolled a sarnak Shadowknight and am now level 44. The kicker about the trial, you will see the part of the game that excels. The first 25 levels. After that..it just ends up getting longer and longer but doing the same crap over and over. It basically is getting boring for me. I've run a few dungeons, which is ok, but most people are so high level this is a rarity.
I've done a few heritage quests, ok, but again too tedious to get help with. I hear about what people are doing at end game...and I just don't see it getting any better once I hit level 80, which probably won't happen as I'm already looking for greener mmo pastures. Sad to say, the game has some good points, but "something is lacking".
I'm not sure what exactly, I can think of only a few things that annoy me to no end. First, the amount of upgrades to spells and combat abilities is just plain annoying, having to buy better versions(of which there are from apprentice I to master 2) of a spell that in 10 levels will be replaced by a better version, that you must again, upgrade. Large waste of time and money in my opinion. Crafting at first is fun, but ends up being a boring grind.
Traveling in the game....makes no sense. Some zones have griffons or horse paths, some have nothing. Buying a mount is a sheer annoyance due to cost and micro percentage increases per tier of mount.
Lore. Apparently everyone raves about the lore but the only way you experience it is by reading books in game or quest dialogues. Sorry, that's not the way I like my Lore delivered.(see LOTRO and FFXI for better ways to do this).
Graphics: well at first they are nice, but something about the landscape on the horizon seems, well fake, the mountains in the distance don't detail very well(and I have all those landscape settings maxed) its like the lighting causes distant views to fade out, its a bit annoying.
Overall the best part for me is the music, love that part of the game. I'm gonna copy the music to a disk and uninstall the game. Anyway, just thought I'd share.
Guess I've gone on to long here, didn't mean to hijack your thread. My apologies.
Umm reading quests is not the way you prefer to get your lore? Other than cut scenes i guess i dont know how else you would get it and that includes LOTRO as well or any other game. I know what you mean about getting groups at a lower level though. I was fortunate and got into a helpful guild. But as you say , something is missing, i found this to be true also with EQ2 and LOTRO.
Well, I don't mind reading quests, but I hate clicking through 20 tiny boxes to get it all. Maybe it's the way EQ2 writes their quest dialogue. Just saying there should be better ways to deliver a story, which there clearly isn't. I'm of the old school rpg players, I like interactive stories. The whole game doesn't have to be run by it, but it would be nice to feel like the quests actually mean something other than a way to get xp, money and gear.
welp started a zerker and am lvl 8 finally, im overwhelmed at the beginning. I absolutely love the character models and animations. This is what I think of when I think fantasy armor and it makes me so happy. Landscape leaves something to be desired even on max settings which my comp can handle. Not sure what to do haha but ill just quest it out and figure it out as i go. cant remember what server im on so ill just look for a helpful guild in game.
I agree, I do like EQ2's character animation and gear "look". Let me know how you feel once the "glow" of the first 20 levels fades away. Just curious to see if it does or not for you.
while I had a different experience than yours - I do not discount what you say
having a good guild in any mmo can make a world of difference
I grouped primarily with pickup groups and the game didnt fall flat for me until Desert of Flames (level 50+)
altho with the new leveling curve, low 50s goes by much faster
at 60+ the game picked up for me again altho Kunark is too solo-orientated
EDIT:
forgot to mention, most my spells were only App4 quality
-- I never saw a need to upgrade to Adept1 until 50+
the game was revised to give you app1 spells at all levels now, not just under 50
