Daily Update from Historian (03/10/09)

AlienShirtAlienShirt Member UncommonPosts: 621

This is copy and pasted from Historian's Daily #1 thread on the Acclaim TCoS forums:

No launch updates yet. We still have the DB issue.

Recurring billing, has become a priority. We are seriously looking in to "Set it and Forget it" options.

I will do one of these per day till the CB launches... With luck this will be the one and only Daily..

Lol what can I say,I followed this game for so long and helped in closed beta, then came the bombshell of Acclaim and then the IP blocks, now this guy "Historian"jumped on the band wagon when Acclaim got involved and gave some pretty uninformed posts when I still held hope for the game, now he is going to post "a daily"for people that are still looking forward to this game,I hope for there sake it contain's more info than his 1st daily or there is no point in waiting for his 2nd.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I agree the communication has been less then stellar to put it lightly. I'm just trying to spread what information is given to keep some hope alive regarding TCoS.

I have a tiny tiny ray of hope we may see CB by the end of this week, but tbh I can see this stretching on for weeks.

The whole situation is beyond ridiculous. If it had been a few weeks or a month you could understand, but its been over 3 and a half months on a game which was already released back in November. It raises so many questions as to what the hell it is theyre doing.

I remember back in november when beta ended and I thought "ah well,a few weeks and ill be playing again"....

If it isn't released sometime this week. I think alot of folks are going to be turned off.

I think we all need to understand games encounter problems, but there comes a point where the community for that game has to wonder what the heck is going on.

Hopefully it wont come to that though. I am a big supporter of spellborn. I think the game mechanics are a breath of fresh air in this genre.

The game is literally in acclaims hands now.Once their open beta starts, the IP blocks will be lifted from elsewhere. What this means is that if they drag their closed beta on for months that the community will die out even more than it already has.

3 and a half months and counting ,latest beta set back 5 days already.

You are forgetting that Acclaim asked the guys from SIL to postpone the game release for 6 month for Acclaim to get ready for release so that we could have a world wide release. Remember that? SIL was particularly generous and gave them 8 months to get ready for release. So it is actually 11 and a half months and counting.

And yes, it is true that people are waiting to see whether the lifting of the IP blocking will have a positive impact on the population.

I don't understand how 'daily updates' can be described as less than stellar communication. I don't know of any other company that has ever provided more information leading up the release of a product.

There has never been a moment or a second that I didn't now what was delaying the release of the game. Without knowing the full extent of the database problems they are having, I won't judge either. Lets not forget the billing issues causing headline news when HGL was released. A repeat of that would kill TCoS more easily than the IP filtering blunder that they already made.

The game wasn't ready 11 months ago. Its still not ready. Even when its ready you're best off waiting another six months just to get a little extra polish. The irony is that those who play a game at release will have the worst player experience of all. MMOG's only get better with time. Patience is rewarded.

This is a very recent occurrence. Though honestly The Historian has kept folks up to date using Voon and twitter very well. Alot of folks on the forums just felt left out.

The DB issue seems to have been resolved

The game isn't perfect obviously. But they have fixed TONS of quests and instances. Added a Marketplace, done plenty. The game is very ready in its current state.  Also, some folks enjoy exploring new games on new servers and building a name for themself that way. harder to do if you just joined after 6 months and server politics are already going on.

The marketplace is complete?! I've only been loosely following the game lately, but that is great news. That is the #1 feature I was waiting for before I try it out. my #2 feature is mounts. I wonder if those will make it in before NA release as well...

It is lined up for this months patch, they have the screenshots and such on the main page. So it will be out on the US release most likely.

    Looks good ;D

Mounts are a longer range goal for the devs. They will have them but I am sure it will be after the release of Acclaim's Spellborn. The devs have said they have prioritizes things and planned pvp material releases and quest updates and some more instances. Mounts will be after that.

Beta began today btw if anyone hadnt heard.theres been some good changes since I last played it in the euro beta. Ive no idea if theres an NDA on the acclaim CB,but its doubtful seeing as its already released..Ive not signed anything anyway.

The new tutorial is really good and brings you into the game world in a much better way.It also looks like its had the health bars and combat text cleaned up a lot which seems much more responsive and looks a tonne better.
