so after some reading on the official forums it seems like SK is overpowered and because of it fighters in general are getting nerfed. Im scared of picking a gimped class if i decide to continue playing. With little experience what do you vets suggest? Is there even a big diff between the plate fighters as far as dps and survivabilty? easiest to gain xp? solo?

SoE in their infinite wisdom is currently revamping all the classes and starting with fighters so any information you read is only relevant up to the next GU or whenever they descide to push the revamp live. Funny thing is that they plan to do the revamp class by class which will leave the game in a strange state for some time.
Anyway, if you want to level fast and solo, SK is good now, just be quick.
Guardian is somewhat slow to level.
Berserker is alittle faster, not much.
Paladin probably close to Berserker, not sure since I havn't played one.
Bruiser probably quite fast.
Monk similar to Bruiser.
Once the fighter revamp is done fighters should be similar in dps and survivability, or so they say.
when do those changes go live? and what is fast about lvling a sk?
If you know what you are doing SKs are pretty much indestructible. With their wards and lifetaps it makes health not an issue, they are also no slouch in the damage department.

If you have played MMOs for any amount of time there is one thing you will learn. Classes change and what is gimp today is many times uber tomorrow and what is uber today is frequently gimp in the future.
So the best advice is play the class that you like and don't try to find one that is overpowered or focus on some aspect.
I think that the changes coming are being over rated. If you read the forums there are lots of people talking about how aweful they are. But the reality is that the changes will probably have a lot less impact then most people say. Yes it might change how you play but will it make tanks unplayable. Poppycock and if you believe that you are complete foolish.
With these changes tanks will have to be in defensive mode mostly when they are tanking for a group and need to be keeping agro. When tanks are soloing or if they are doing dps in a group they will be in offensive mode. This was kinda the intention for the class all along. But changes over time have made it so a tank in offensive mode was able to keep agro better then in defense mode because dps contributed a lot to their agro generation. So consequently defensive mode was something seldom used.
