I got a bit fed up with the MMO I was playing and decided it was time to leave, maybe even leave MMO's for a while.
So I started up my Steam account and downloaded a couple of demo's. I came across Overlord, a game from 2007 which looked like a bit of fun and it was only £15. Now due to various reasons I was not able to buy this game on my Steam account. I went through customer services, who were very helpful, but still no joy. So I thought to just go down the road to my local Game store and see if they still had the game.
Not only did the Game store still have a copy but they were selling it as part of a buy 2 games for £15 deal. 2 rows down I saw that AoC was part of the same deal and quickly snapped it up.
So I now have what I consider to be 30 day free trial . So much for staying away from MMO's for while but hope I enjoy it.
I support Belgiums efforts to get noticed ... at all.

U will regret it!
I don't think he will. While i don't play AoC currently, there has been alot of work been put in. AoC is in a strong state.
Nice to hear

The problem is that if AoC isn't the game for you, it'll probably take you more than a month to realize it. Depending on how hard you play, it can take til the second or third month before you realize the problems with the game that many other felt.
And... that's a problem why? Seriously, what you say of can be said of all MMORPG's depending on the person trying them. It really doesn't matter if it takes the OP the 2nd or 3rd month (as you predict), just so long as he has fun before that. Ultimately, it's up to the OP if he is having enough fun to keep on subscribing to the game. If $15 a month sub is too much to consider, then he shouldn't have even considered getting a game in the first place.
To the OP: Gratz on your find. I hope you enjoy your time in AoC.
Because they scoured it off of their own forums?

I have no idea why, but it seems like the care about what people like you say.

It took me only 14 days to realize EVE Online wasn't the game for me.

The problem is since the OP is presenting this as a free trial I assumed the money was an issue. Also in the genre of MMO's a game that fails to satisfy past 3 months as a failure.

And how does that apply here? AoC and EvE are very different. EvE pushes away gamers by being daunting in the beginning, potentially much more rewarding if you stick with it. AoC draws in gamers in the beginning then pushes them away later.

By whom? Whom actually dictates this as being a failure? Seriously, provide a solid, factual backup of that statement. Otherwise, as a majority of the non haters on this forum already knows, you're talking nonsense.

Lol... yup... you're trying to deflect the same argument you said to me. By your own previous statement, I guess EvE would be a failure as well due to abal only playing for 14 days and not subbing. Way to go there on sticking with your guns...
Anyways, EvE isn't any different when comparing upon retention. They're both MMORPG's and are competing for player subscriptions. Some people like EvE better than AoC and vice versa. However, your opinion (more like spite) on the difference between the two is just that... opinion. Therefore, stop trying to state it as fact.
Then no trial on no MMO is worth a damn, as they don't go on for 3 months.
In 1 month you have more than enougth time to check the world, the system, and interact with actual players that have been around for months, as to make your opinion on the game.

The style of game really has no bearing on the length of time it takes a person to decide they dislike a game. People decide for all kinds of reasons why they don't like a game. It could be disliked because of graphics, control system, storyline, or a myriad of other things.

isn't how much each one of us plays also goes into the equation?
it will certainly take a casual gamer longer to figure out how he feels about an mmo than someone who plays 2+ hours every day.
30 days is more than enough time to find out about AOC, whether you like it or not. Tortage is great, but will take you less than a week to finish if you play a decent amount. You'll probably get to 80 in your third or fourth week. In my opinion, AOC went downhill at about level 25. Leveling is fast enough that I got to 80 with plenty of time on my account. Most MMORPGs change pretty drastically at endgame so I wanted to give endgame a chance. In AOC... there was basically a big drop off after lvl 20, then a gradual decline until 80, but then at 80, it was apparent that the game was never going to be fun. There were just very few things to do at endgame (compared to Lotro and WOW). I'm a pretty big fan of pvp, but in aoc it just had no purpose... there was no progression really in pvp, and I heard enough of my friends in game tell me that raiding was broken because gear itemization was so bad.
In any event, I don't really feel ripped off because in my opinion, the first 20 levels were worth the price of the box. If you can get the box for $10 or below, i'd definitely recommend trying it. The only warning I would have is for people who don't play alot.. don't get suckered into resubscribing if you are at like lvl 18 or so. The game becomes drastically less fun after that, and you will be paying $15 for 2 levels of good playtime.
AoC is a fun game. I hope you enjoy it. I came back in December, and just renewed again.
I really enjoy the aspects of combat, the visual quality, the music, and the game runs excellent on my ATI 4870 and Vista 64 with 4 gigs.
Have a blast!
