What is it with some of you? Is life so serious to you that everything else must be taken as serious? Remember where this forum is? It is at a gaming website. Say it one more time. A gaming website. Not all of us come to a "gaming website" to discuss politics. Some of us get tired of discussing religion, politics, taxes, governments. Some of us like to discuss light hearted things like music, funny pictures, funny news stories, games, gaming, weird stuff, unusual stuff, unique stuff...why does everything have to be so serious on ths forum all the time? Please enlighten me. Also, nobody forces you to read another posters threads they start...there is no guy standing behind you holding a gun to your head saying, "READ IT NOW!" Here is a tip. One I regularly practice here myself. See a thread that doesn't interest you or you think is going to be silly and not serious enough a topic to garner you attention...don't read it. You'd be amazed at how well that works.

No I agree with you. I find myself looking at the not so serious threads more than the religion, politcal, conspiracy stuff. For the past couple days, I've hardly looked at the threads on this forum because they just didn't interest me enough.
This website is a safe haven for trolls and haters. I'm done with this pathetic site.
One problem, at least speaking for myself, is that discussing MMORPGs has become less interesting and topics in the Off Topic section have become more interesting.
The real lack of innovation, excitement, newness, and so forth in the MMORPG industry draws me away from gaming topics but draws me to this section.
I am now, and I will forever be, a "gamer." So many profound, life-changing (actually, world-changing) things --wars, bail-outs, Obama, Democratic-control, Madoff, collapse of jobs/houses-- have occurred that discussing "serious" issues is probably a healthy thing. Even at MMORPG... or anywhere else for that matter.
Call me elitist but the reason it's annoying is because it encourages more of that kind of activity. The off - topic is, in general, being used by the same people. It's almost a community in itself, away from the general section, and i personally don't want to see that community ruined because more and more people create "crappy" threads.
Ofcourse not everything has to be serious, nobody says everything should be serious, but I have very little interest in reading how you get drunk and have "mad sex" with someone named Jess. I'd like to remind you that this is a forum, not an IRC chat room.
Just because you may not be interested in all of the subjects does not mean others are not, you are free to share your opinions just as well as the next girl. If you want a forum that people only discuss things you like go make a forum and all the rules you wish. Just as I do not have the right to dictate on here and say okay I only want to see threads on computer modding, superkickass custom metal light sculptures, and garbage into energy threads and I hate to see those threads about ipods, all ipod threads are crappy and I don;t want to see anyone post threads on ipods if one person starts posting about them then more will come here and ruin our forums posting about ipods because this is not an irc chat channel...

There was a time when the serious topics on this forum were talked about in a serious but light hearted way. I remember a certain poster name ModJoe (for example) who made very serious points but did it in a witty comical way. There were others like him too that were really good at pointing out peoples inconsistencies in a way that was hilarious. And then there were others opinions that I could not wait to read (like another poster named Reavo, and then there was AlexAmore, etc.). I logged on every time hoping to see what they had said because they seemed to have a different slant on things that made me think. Something has changed. That feeling is gone now. I even have trouble doing that kind of thing myself here now. But as far as serious topics go, just because we play games does not mean that we are a bunch of weirdo freaks that can't have a serious discussion about things. I like to think that whatever it is that draws us to the same hobby also creates this type of bond between us that goes deeper in interests. We might have difference of opinions, but I think our interests in things that draw those deep opinions is pretty darn close. I want that old forum feeling from a few years ago back. They were good times. Interesting times. And a lot more interesting than conversations about PS3 vs 360 or who won the grammys or whatever else might seem important but really is just a distraction for us in these troubled times. I like it when we can recognize the problem, get it out in the open, and simultaneously show that we are supporting each other through humor while we get through it. Sort of like when you watch the late night t.v. shows and hear hosts like Letterman or Leno or O'Brian rip into the politicians who are acting like idiots and help get us through this crap together.
Sounds like your describing the current state of MMOs. Isn't it a shame? It's bad enough that our gaming lives have become empty because we can no longer find the perfect MMO to satisfy our gaming desires, but now our substitute preoccupation, posting on an MMO message board has become largely vacuous as well. I tell you, is there no end to the decline of our time wasting activities?
There is a off-topic place for a reason. There wasnt much problem with the thread she made. She asked the question on a previous thread and some people answered there, so instead of having multiple things started on a thread made for something else she made one for itself.
As some people who only look for serioius threads like religion, economy just look for them because they come up occasionally, or start them yourselves
I could post about my physical problem I've had since I lost some weight. I went from about 205 pounds to 180 pounds. While I weighed 200 or so I never had this problem. Now that I'm down to 180 I have a major physical problem. i now have belly button lint.
Well, the more weight you lose, the more belly button lint you will accumulate. And you will need it too, collect enough and you can make a new pair of pants.

I wish we could all be light-hearted, and laughter was the only noise humans would make.

The MMORPG industry just does not interst me, anymore. The industry is facing a creative crisis as it, kicking-and-screaming, exits the WoW-era of MMORPG.
The next era is either innovative payment systmes, which I hope and anticipate will fail hard, or innovative content. The copying-and-pasting of features has not, and cannot, work; it is about designing new concepts and creating new features.

I agree. Nobody is "scared" of women or other opinions or Texas, despite being beaten over the head with topics and posts about both on a daily basis. Things get annoying after a while, you can keep posting, and people can keep complaining. That is their right.
No matter what forums you go to there is going to be a serious topic, but if it's not serious and casual I would at least like it to make sense and have good discussion. Topics that are full of nothing or just a big tease might be better off in the Spam. Not I'm kinda tired of all the Political threads, because some posters can just bump these things. Now I remember my days of posting topics a lot and to be honest, by me...it's nothing but good then TROUBLE. Now maybe if I had a vagina it would be soo diffrent, but I see how people act towards others, nothing I can do about that though. The real lack of innovation, excitement, newness, and so forth in the MMORPG industry draws me away from gaming topics but draws me to this section.
I am now, and I will forever be, a "gamer." So many profound, life-changing (actually, world-changing) things --wars, bail-outs, Obama, Democratic-control, Madoff, collapse of jobs/houses-- have occurred that discussing "serious" issues is probably a healthy thing. Even at MMORPG... or anywhere else for that matter.
So make some less serious ones...

Just as I do not have the right to dictate on here and say okay I only want to see threads on computer modding, superkickass custom metal light sculptures, and garbage into energy threads and I hate to see those threads about ipods, all ipod threads are crappy and I don;t want to see anyone post threads on ipods if one person starts posting about them then more will come here and ruin our forums posting about ipods because this is not an irc chat channel...

Sounds like your describing the current state of MMOs. Isn't it a shame? It's bad enough that our gaming lives have become empty because we can no longer find the perfect MMO to satisfy our gaming desires, but now our substitute preoccupation, posting on an MMO message board has become largely vacuous as well. There is a off-topic place for a reason. There wasnt much problem with the thread she made. She asked the question on a previous thread and some people answered there, so instead of having multiple things started on a thread made for something else she made one for itself.
As some people who only look for serioius threads like religion, economy just look for them because they come up occasionally, or start them yourselves

In truth, I tried --literally, tried-- to find an "on topic" post that interests me.
The MMORPG industry just does not interst me, anymore. The industry is facing a creative crisis as it, kicking-and-screaming, exits the WoW-era of MMORPG.
The next era is either innovative payment systmes, which I hope and anticipate will fail hard, or innovative content. The copying-and-pasting of features has not, and cannot, work; it is about designing new concepts and creating new features.

I agree. Nobody is "scared" of women or other opinions or Texas, despite being beaten over the head with topics and posts about both on a daily basis. Things get annoying after a while, you can keep posting, and people can keep complaining. That is their right.

No matter what forums you go to there is going to be a serious topic, but if it's not serious and casual I would at least like it to make sense and have good discussion. Topics that are full of nothing or just a big tease might be better off in the Spam. Not I'm kinda tired of all the Political threads, because some posters can just bump these things. Now I remember my days of posting topics a lot and to be honest, by me...it's nothing but good then TROUBLE. Now maybe if I had a vagina it would be soo diffrent, but I see how people act towards others, nothing I can do about that though. There has a big lack of good threads unrelated to the world and they used to tell me that I only care about my post count.
