LOL. So higher level spells look as rediculous as the lower level ones. What is next?
But they working like a charm ...you seem have missed the point of August 2008 ..
we dont care about graphics or particle effects ...6 months later and you still mention these graphics and these looks..when will you get past these point ?
If AV say the game is not for everyone..then those eye whores will get no candy and should start searching a new game ..you still go by looks 6 months after that is being told to you ...LOL
You know after the gameplay video of August 2008 the forums grow from 50k to 200k in 2 days..
so once and for all ...
We don't care about particle effects and animations ..get over it.. and learn to adapt to these situation if you visiting these forum..best would be you find yourself a game that pleases your eyes..may it helps your issues..
You not target audience for these game..there are alkternatives out there with flashy spells and all of that crap..go there..you will get not your partcile effects, spasmic moves here ..

Not going to comment on the animations/visual effects because I don't really care that much. I -do- care about those TERRIBLE mid 90's sound effects though. They make me cry at how so severely dated every single sound effect was. The graphics themselves are fine imo. They're worse than, for example, Oblivion, but not by a whole lot. Those sound effects though......my god are they terrible. Seriously, mid-late 90's quality at best. And what was with the douche bag taking like five minutes putting their cursor over the spells? We get it, you're really proud of your spells that will very likely eventually be worthless.
They had to make compromises over the years very small indie team so, they desided to make world grafhics look nice and put buildings avatar grafhics from late 90's and sounds from early 90'sto and almost no mobs or npc's in worldso they could save some money:P
yeah, all those indie game developers have to constantly cut corners... just like CCP and eve online..........
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I think what everyone is forgetting is just how much money AV was actually reported to have borrowed by a national magazine. About 2-3 years back they borrowed about 23m Euro from a bank to continue development on the game. This wasn't the first amount of money they borrowed either, you can be sure of that.
I mean yay for AV that they 'stayed' indie (even though they didn't) and didn't let some big bad company come in and finance the game and blah blah blah. Bottom line is they should have. They clearly don't have the infrastructure or managing experience to handle something like this.
Starvault is also an indie company, but they had the intelligence to partner with some big companies. And now they've been making a game that by all accounts is almost identicle to DF, but with a much more focused, well-funded team behind it. So I really don't want to hear any more bs about how small and little AV is just because you like rooting for the little guy or some BS. AV isn't some small, innocent company. They've borrowed ten's of millions and probably mis-spent more than a little of that. Stop treating them like they're saints or heroic or something. They're, at best, a bunch of guys and girls trying to do something without the proper focus, management or infrastructure behind it.
Av secured a 27 mil loan from banks, but only spent/loaned 10.7 million euros to develop the game. Av was on Greek television stating this, so stop pulling every number you ever heard about df and thinking its facts.
They should have spent more. Getting 27m and spending half of it doesn't freaking impress me. All it does is show me they didn't have enough faith in either their skill, their product or both to spend more money on it to make it better. It wouldn't have even cost that much to hire some Foley artists to make some better sounds, but hey, they chose to skimp.
ok, 27m euros, at the time of loan, was equal to how many american dollars?

Dude. I'm serious bro!!! I want to play the MMO you would make. Clearly, in your head, you know what's best to design an MMO. From start to finish, you know the answers to all the big decisions!! I'll be patiently waiting for your MMO, because I know you will team up with all the big companies which is will no doubt make it better than DF. I can seriously not wait for your leet sound effects too!!
so, if you went to a burger joint and they gave you a big cow turd on a bun... and someone commented about it being poop... you'd give them this kind of crap as well?
i don't have to know how to perform heart surgery, in order to go "damn, you messed that up, he died horribly".
faulty logic and stupidity are faulty logic and stupidity, no matter how you dress it up.

weird, we have a couple of hardcore pvp types on the eve forums here, who think that hardcore is reporting folks, instead of giving what you get... hard to believe people think of themselves as hardcore pvpers ingame, but QQ on forums.

Aventurine secured a 20 million Euro convertible bond (worth ~27 million USD at the time) in July 2007, not a loan. Basically, they offered up 20 million Euros worth of stock. Did anybody buy the bonds? Nobody knows. Tasos has been quoted as saying Darkfall cost 10 million Euros to make, but nobody knows how true that statement is or if it reflects all the money spent designing and developing Darkfall from inception. At least $500k (3 million kronor) was spent in the short time Razorwax was in charge. Here's a great little article at Warcry with the history of Darkfall through mid 2007.
Irrespective of that, I, too, wasn't particularly impressed with the video. It's not due to the graphics, however, so much as how tedious it seemed to be to switch out spells. Was the caster switching out a wand, too? It looks like you need to be prepared ahead of time with whatever you think you might need, since switching on the fly seems cumbersome. Could somebody explain the process in further detail? I also thought it was interesting that the caster seemed to be using a character from a second account as a practice dummy. I'm sure Aventurine appreciates that somebody bought at least two copies of Darkfall and is paying for more than one monthly account. While this tactic seems cheap, it's his money, so more power to him. It would be nice, however, if maybe one more person could actually play Darkfall than have to wait in a queue while somebody is practice leveling his skills up (and leveling up the practice dummy's resistances, too).

No offense but I'm not really sure what you mean. Just an FYI, I didn't report anyone.

I do agree. I hope they completely revamp the skill system and get some music in too.

They wanna save money by not putting out an up-to-date product? Then I'll save money by not buying it. Glad to come to an agreement.
Oh, and to comment on the actual gameplay. He spent all that time levelling up his magic to get to fire magic, and that was what he got? Not only were the spell effects laughable, the damage seemed pathetic as well. How many spells did he hit the other guy with?

So a little check to see where we are now. No game at all--->Vaporware--->Game exists but worst launch ever--->Graphics suck--->Graphics ok but sound effects blow. Have I missed anything so far?

vaporware has nothing to do with a game being launched... so i guess learning definitions of words would be one place we're at.
another would be "feature complete", the couple of dozen features (which are still listed on the darkfallonline.com website) which didn't make it to retail.
never said graphics ok... dated game... would've been halfway decent half a decade ago, might've even been good.
oh, don't forget fanbois plaguing the internet for the past year have made people hate the game as much as soe. said fanboi trolling is the reason all the flames get fanned on this forum. that, combined with fanboi inability to answer basic game questions.

Saying that trolls are trolling because of fanbois that were fanboying in the past is not an excuse. Either you have a formed opinion based on facts and experience or you don't. With darkfall I notice that people that actually play the game, come to boards and say how much they like it. People that don't play the game come and say how much it sucks. It's a step up on trollism, since in the past people usually where at least in open beta before they started trolling on a game after launch. We are in a place in time on MMORG that people don't need to play a game to start trolling. A video, an article or what goes on in their minds is enough to form an opinion. Problem is they then have the need to share it.
Also saying a game sucks because it din't launch with all the features it promised makes me believe you really haven't played a single MMO since 1999. From EQ2 and WoW guild halls to Vanguard's ship battles. From WAR's starting cities , to AoC classes and city battles. NO MMO has ever launched with everything that promised.

saying that hate for a game was generated by morons spamming the internet isn't an excuse - it's reality.
with darkfall i notice that my friends who were all hyped about it, have all gone back to the games they were playing previously. strangely enough, none of them felt compelled to come to this forum and say "hey i'm playing darkfall - it's great'; nor did any of them feel the need to come to this forum and say "hey, i've quit".
and i've noticed how much time people have spent during the first week, even first two weeks, trolling darkfall forums, INSTEAD of playing the game. that says worlds more than any posting that could be done.
war's starting cities? how it dropped from 4 capital cities to 2. you're comparing something that still existed ingame, to the list of items on the darkfall page that are not ingame in any form? and the rest -- you're SERIOUSLY comparing those items in other MMOs to this foolishness? really? dude, that is HILARIOUS.
nice elitist attitude though. that makes what you say have more street cred. it does. really.
so, i'm so sorry that not everyone shares your limited opinions and lives life in the way you feel they should (especially by announcing "i quit" on some random forum).
by the by, my post , as you can see above, was in direct reply to your fanboi QQing. which is something that's been old for a while now. but feel free to not contribute to conversations and just QQ more... i mean, it is a hardcore pvp game, no reason to think it's wannabe players are hardcore and not just given to random acts of QQing because the game sucks.

Sorry I lost the ability to follow your reasoning. Two points though.
1. I am not a darkfall fanboi. Never played the game and never will. I only have a problem with trolls plaguing MMORG. And its easy to QQ , make fun, be sarcastic, because lets face it....if you are a troll you ain't that bright to begin with.
2. About WAR's starting cities. It was just an example dude. There many other things that where missing from what was promised. I just brought up an example or two.
PS. You are talking about a list of things that miss from that game. Care to mention of a few?
The fact that everyone was using mana missile was one of their biggest selling points.
Watch now someone will bs about the animation not being up to their standards, like in other games where the hellmouth opens whenever someone casts the pissiest little fireball, to make them look manly...
Also did the damn armor get burned up? LOL
Really... do you honestly think a different color spell makes this game great?
Man, you have to be the biggest Aventurien peter guzzzler on these forums. Perhaps you should get out from under Tasos desk and open your smagma stained eyes.

You'll notice that almost everyone who has something negative to say about Darkfall spent considerable time in beta and realized this game has some nice things, but the overwhelming lies and unfinished features along with Aventurine's incompetence means none of the things that are broken will get fixed.
Knowing all that^^ plus knowing other games are comming down the pipe simply implies that intelligent people will not spend $50+ on a defunct game and build a character for 6 weeks, only to have the game fold!
Intelligent people remember slick talking lead devs and all the bs promises.
Hey Tasos, where is the Miracle Patch you promised us during beta. You know... they patch that turned "on" all those features you kept telling us you hade "turned off" because they didn't need testing or you were in debug mode. Hunh..?
Whare is the 80% of the PvE content you said was off..?
Where is the full access to cities and building (ie using doors/gates) you said was turned off..?
Where is the robust skill tree with 500 skills and plethora of roles you can play within Darkfall..?
Where is the guild capes that can be emblemized..?
Darkfall is a flop because Aventurine are not "Indie", but a bunch of newbies putting together a College Project!
You'll notice that almost everyone who has something negative to say about Darkfall spent considerable time in beta and realized this game has some nice things, but the overwhelming lies and unfinished features along with Aventurine's incompetence means none of the things that are broken will get fixed.
I noticed that the considerable amount of people who had something negative about Darkfall had actually spent NO time in the Beta. The beta was extremely small by anyone's standards, so how is it possible that majority of these people in these forums were in the beta? That doesn't seem likely at all.
Now, if you had said "You'll notice that almost everyone who has something negative to say about Darkfall usually has less than 20 posts on accounts created last week and troll heavy for laughs, without actually having any intention of playing Darkfall and say so" yeah, I'd agree with you 100%.
The sound in this game makes my ears bleed. The pissing lil animations and effects though are funny.
in case you didn't know -- in DF the animations for spells are linked to how high your skill is, so like mana missile at skill 1 looks pissweak, whereas MM at skill=75 looks bigger & nastier.
same goes for fire & air magic -- low skill = small animations, maxxed skill = kickass animation. make sense?

They had to make compromises over the years very small indie team so, they desided to make world grafhics look nice and put buildings avatar grafhics from late 90's and sounds from early 90'sto and almost no mobs or npc's in worldso they could save some money:P
yeah, all those indie game developers have to constantly cut corners... just like CCP and eve online..........
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Av secured a 27 mil loan from banks, but only spent/loaned 10.7 million euros to develop the game. Av was on Greek television stating this, so stop pulling every number you ever heard about df and thinking its facts.
They should have spent more. Getting 27m and spending half of it doesn't freaking impress me. All it does is show me they didn't have enough faith in either their skill, their product or both to spend more money on it to make it better. It wouldn't have even cost that much to hire some Foley artists to make some better sounds, but hey, they chose to skimp.
ok, 27m euros, at the time of loan, was equal to how many american dollars?

so, if you went to a burger joint and they gave you a big cow turd on a bun... and someone commented about it being poop... you'd give them this kind of crap as well?
i don't have to know how to perform heart surgery, in order to go "damn, you messed that up, he died horribly".

weird, we have a couple of hardcore pvp types on the eve forums here, who think that hardcore is reporting folks, instead of giving what you get... hard to believe people think of themselves as hardcore pvpers ingame, but QQ on forums.

Close to a decade in the making.....
: Sound effects are much like most Sega Genesis games.
: Music sounds like it was a sampler song on a cheap Yamaha keyboard.
: Most free to play item mall mmo's have better graphics, play better and have nice animations.
sound and effects look like a game from the 90s. heck the whole game looks like its from the 90s. 2009 now. Hello.

How many spells did he hit the other guy with?

its easy he did not setup his hotbars. and it seems he let you show how he does this.
if he fights like that its real cumbersom.... and he better uses that 2e acount to actuaal kill a person.
but tbh i dont think he is using his 2e acount its just some one that is willing to be a practise dummie.
and please dont even start about the log in trouble poeple have a this time, yes they are there. but i am sure they will fix it soon they cant have this for a long period of time.

I was sitting here thinking of something witty to say but this post sums it up!

Really... do you honestly think a different color spell makes this game great?
Man, you have to be the biggest Aventurien peter guzzzler on these forums. Perhaps you should get out from under Tasos desk and open your smagma stained eyes.
Yea.. Einstein... ! Yea.. Einstein... ! Yea.. Einstein... ! Yea.. Einstein... !
Look^^ everyone Einstein is posting again, this time promoing a different color spell, as a game "feature".

____________________________
I noticed that the considerable amount of people who had something negative about Darkfall had actually spent NO time in the Beta. The beta was extremely small by anyone's standards, so how is it possible that majority of these people in these forums were in the beta? That doesn't seem likely at all.
Now, if you had said "You'll notice that almost everyone who has something negative to say about Darkfall usually has less than 20 posts on accounts created last week and troll heavy for laughs, without actually having any intention of playing Darkfall and say so" yeah, I'd agree with you 100%.
"TO MICHAEL!"
I want to say nice video, but I just can't seem to...
It's clear that Aventurine decided that sponsoring a rally car was more important than developing decent sound and visual effects.

To be honest, the sounds and visuals reminded me of playing Doom II. But hey, I loved Doom II .
DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness
in case you didn't know -- in DF the animations for spells are linked to how high your skill is, so like mana missile at skill 1 looks pissweak, whereas MM at skill=75 looks bigger & nastier.
same goes for fire & air magic -- low skill = small animations, maxxed skill = kickass animation. make sense?
