FF questions

panachepanache Member UncommonPosts: 397

I'm looking for a mmorpg and for some reason been looking at FFXI and have some questions...

On the webby it looks like the game has some low system specs....are they right?

Can you move around in the game environment like SWG or Daoc...i have a weird feeling you can't as it is basically a console game?

I have read grouping oppurtunities are small....does it get in the way of having fun?

Any other insights to FF you can give me will be appreciated :)

ta :)

I like the game better on the PS2 than on the computer, because it goes faster goes faster than my friends, who lags a lot cause he has an old computer.  I am not sure what you mean by read group, unless you mean real groups, can you explain what you mean so I can tell you.

    Thanx mate for the reply...

In read, i mean i have read other threads on this forum that to obtain higher levels you will need to find groups to hunt with...otherwise levelling is slow.

Oh and another question...is character movement possible with the keyboard and cursor keys....or more like lineage 2's horrible point and click on the ground?

The Movement for the Computer is based on the number pad on the side of the keyboard (2,4,6,8), which is much easier than the movement for Lineage 2.  If you have the money, you should buy a PS2 type Joystick for the computer, it makes the game much easier if you played the game on PS2.

I think you should buy it. In the beginning it may be hard to learn everything about FFXI cause it's so much!

You can choose to move on the numpad or with W,A,S,D and then you have hot keys to select target (the F buttons and tab)

it may be hard to learn all the hotkeys in the beginning but in the end it goes very smooth!

FFXI is a good game and worth buying but you shall think of this:

FFXI si a BIG game and it requires a lot of time spent on it to accomplish what you want. Therefore if you don't have thet much sparetime try another MMORPG.

I play my game on the comp and I use a PS2 pad as the controller and I write with the keyboard.

Yea, that is a really good idea to get the PS2/Keyboard combo to use it for the game.  May I also recommend that you invest some money on a cable modem or DSL Modem, since you spend so much time on this game, it is a pain when you are using a telephone line, plus all the lag you get from the telephone line.
