So there I was researching some setting with my new graphics cards on the official forums. I am currently helping out on the test server in compiling specifics with regards to DX10 and looking for more optimization. I came across a thread on the regular servers where someone was experiencing issues with a new PC build they had, giving lag spikes in the live game itself.
So here is the frustrated poster's 1st entry:
"I just rebuilt my system I have an Asus P5N-D MB with a pentium X2 processor. I am using a BFG GeForce 8800 GTS with the most current drivers for my OS and ONLY them on the system. I am running Windows XP Pro X64 Edition and have 4 gigs DDR2 800 ram. I have a cable modem and am told its running quite well at about 3 mgs. I installed the direct X upgrade as recommended on the website, making sure I downloaded the one for my OS. I am in the USA Kentucky and playing on Wiccana server.
Before I upgraded all of these items, I had some issues in very populated areas and ran sort of slow, thus the upgrades. Unfortunatly, I haven't been able to play since.
Since I upgraded and put the game on the new HD, I go about 30 seconds and spike out for a few seconds, up to 1 full minute and occasionly lock up and have to start the game over. It doesn't matter when or where I am, it happens. Alone or with people around, in cities or out. For about an hour 3 or 4 days ago around 4am EST It was down to only doing it about every 5 minutes. Then right back to running a few steps and pausing then running and pausing.
I would appreciate ANY assistance at all to help with this situation since I would really like to get back in game with my friends. If I cannot get this problem fixed, I will be cancelling my sub and going back to WoW, since it and all of my other games play seamlessly on this new system."
And later on in the thread:
"Due to the assistance of a wonderful GM from funcom, my issue has been successfully resolved. We exchanged several emails over a few days and he was able to get things set up properly. It appears that some of the settings in my software for my video card were conflicting with AoC. Since I am able to set up individual programs with separate settings he gave me a list of settings and after I used them, I am playing AoC on high settings with no problems at all! I am posting those settings if anyone else needs to try it!

Thank you so very much GM Thessaly for the absolutely wonderful Customer Support and putting in an extra bit of time to get me up and running! In over 11 years of online gaming I have never had anyone give me such great tech support! Go Funcom!"
For me it is good that they got the right service and help in a specific situation. I would expect that. This was an issue with that users actual set up. Well done the GM for helping. Moving forward lets hope they keep this up.
However, more importantly is that I would like to share the actual issue fix. I have been trying it out all day and got a 10-12FPS bump on the test server with DX10 testing. Awesome!

Gave me a nice little boost in Crysis Wars too
This is good support and maybe it will help you out if your an nvidia user looking for tweaks like I was!

apart turning off 2 quality enchanting features.. and enabling vsync ( which not everyone have to use.. i maybe had 1 game from 523523523 played.. which had tearing.. ) its just default settings..
First time had to deal with customer service saturday night. Seems Destiny quests are bugged like no tomorrow, atleast on Wiccana. My level 50 quest just poofed when I went to Old T to get my cloak.
I sent a petition and was number 17 and it took about an hour for a GM to answer. They were pretty quick and prompt. Finished up the quest and everything back to normal. The GM was very helpful. No problems here.
Sorry a little off topic...

Thats not a bad wait for 17th. At launch I had to wait close to 2 hrs once, but was resolved quick when help game. The GM's seem to have a sense of humor too, well the ones I have spoke with. They come check the sieges out sometimes, and the QA testers are pretty good at picking up on points on the test server when around.
Well, this is the reason why Dx10 is still on the test server. Hopefully it will work better once it hits live.
I am not so sure I would call a computer with a 8800 card "new", while it was the best card once it is at least 4 years old by now. The GTS card is nice to clock up at least, had 2 SLIed before (www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/141/1), just read the article careful before considering it You should at least be able to run it like a 8800 Ultra if you have cooling on the ram.
You are saying you had a petiton answered within 2 hrs? I call BS you didn't play at launch.
You are saying you had a petiton answered within 2 hrs? I call BS you didn't play at launch.
Early on, I was able to get reasonably fast responses; so I don't think that observation is out of the question.
That however, changed very quickly roughly 2-3 weeks into launch. It became 12+ hours for responses, the occasional deleted petition with no response (while I was on...), no responses via email, no responses to players via the forums, et al.
This has changed however, as the response time for my petitions these days is very quick. These days I get a nice, polite GM who at the very minimum is empathetic to my issue.
I am mischievous though: My friends and I usually hide nearby the petitioner in our group and attempt to unload on the GM when they appear; in the hopes that one day they have their invulnerability off.
This usually ends up with a GM somewhat confused if they haven't met us. If they have met us before (We're on Wicanna these days, taking a break from Tyranny), it usually goes like this:
GM: <Intro text>
Character: "Hi, Thanks for replyi-"
GM: I see your friends are waiting for me...
Character: "I hate you...now help me with my issue"
GM: :P
Seems as if FC is paying attention. Sounds as if CS has improved considerably.
