Its obviously bullshit to keep cartoony graphics just because a part of the playerbase they want to attract have crappy rigs. Ofc , everyone should be able to enjoy the game but you cant expect everyone to play in low res with crappy graphics just because allot of people cant let go of their P4 rigs MOVE ON PEOPLE
Because the majority of PC gamers have souped up 'rigs'?
Most of WoW's 10 million player base run off fairly run of the mill PCs. A lot run of Macs. I don't think TOR is willing to exclude millions from their games so you can fully use your 'rig'.
And they're not 'crappy' graphics. They're stylised. Not everything in video games is about realism.

Yeah that's not true, not if you count all the computer games people are playing out there and al the fans who may play TOR. I was looking at my local 501st forums one day to see how many were playing SWG. There was one thread about it, and most people back when the game first came out wanted to play it, but couldn't or wouldn't because of the system requirements, or the monthly fee associated with it.
It's funny I was just talking to a co-worker about this very thing at lunch today. The characters lack personality to em. They look like joe-everybody. The faceless generic soldier. Maybe once they get further along they can do scars and stuff, hairstyles that have more interesting shapes.
what they could do, but im sure its to late, or perhaps they wouldnt even consider it, Like what EQ 2 tried to do but really didnt work, make the game capable of utilizing super high end hard ware but have settings that you can put it to so that anyone can play it with there lower end rig. like when EQ 1 came out with Luclin I had to upgrade my rig, now i beleive its even higher reqs than that now, longevity, give people what they want for a long time to come, allow the grapics to change with the changing gaming industry without killing peoples pocket book.
I don't see anything wrong with them, it fits the design of the game...What would you change in particular?
Just more of a tweak to where the characters do not look like blocky toons. They look very cartoonish. I have no complaints about the environments. The environments fit the timeline.
I am excited about this game as any of you are. I can't wait to see more but one problem I see is the character graphics. They just look terrible. I watched the latest video with the gameplay in it but please tell me the toons are not going to look like that!! The pics of the armor that cover the whole toon look good but the jedi or human characters look bad. Just my opinion but I have my fingers crossed.
You mean art design.
No, I mean the gameplay footage that was on video. The art design for the armor was okay, but not for the humans they showed on the demo.
I think the Bounty Hunters look great. I understand what bioware means when they say. " we want to have our own character style...and if we make it look too realistic then it will look just like every other game" That is a great point but if it looks too much like the new Clone Wars stuff Im gonna be alittle disapointed. I did notice that there is alot of flexibility in character design. The two male Jedi look completely different which is a positive.

Right, so graphics concludes how the game is going to be right? I rather have a game with stick figures and decent game play over top notch graphics and shit game play.
I love the graphics, it's obvious that it's not meant to be photo-realistic but a rather a very specific style. I think it's really funky but I can understand why some people might not like it.
Thing is; if you play a slightly cartoony styled mmo, you don't even notice it after a while. Atleast that is my exp with WOW. Not talking Hello Kitty style here, though
If it means lagfree, mass pvp and non stuttery gameplay it is fine with me.
p.s. I really wonder how Aion will do in the lag / fluid gameplay department. If they can pull it off without annoying gameplay restrictions / instanced world zones, they raise the standard of mmorpg graphics by mile and a half.

I really hope you know I was being sarcastic, but if you did I don't get your answer. What are you trying to say?

I, as well, like the graphics. It's similar to The Agency and TF2. Heh

My brand new bloggity blog.
I prefer stylized graphics so Im loving the videos and screen shots.
I've played WoW, Lotro and am Playing WAR atm all have stylized visuals.
I would be turned off to the game if these guys used Realistic character models or something like SWG.
Playing: EvE, Ryzom
I think they look great! Dont be so picky!
