What To Play? Advice Needed.

Hello everyone.

Would first like to say thank you for taking the time to read this thread :)

I have a Desktop and Laptop so would like both so either or both if pos. Oh I also have a Xbox 360 aswell but only with Silver not Gold set up,

I don't mind paying a monthly fee for a game either.

Not sure what specs would be needed to know which games would play well or not so please ask any in a reply to this thread anything you would need to know.

Anyway I have been thinking about getting into a MMORPG but I'm really not sure which one to go for there seems to be so many out at the moment and so much contest between them so some info from real players would be fantastic!

I have played Final Fantasy XI and got afew jobs to lv 75 which was rather fun to play and seem'd like a good community but it's also rather died down alot so I want somthing new to start on.

I really hope somone has some ideas.

Again feel free to ask any questions that may help locate a game.

Many Thanks.

Prue

    Hey Hotaru,

If you could answer a few questions then that would really help give you some ideas

    1) PvP or PvE or mixed?  Role playing yes or no?  And role play with PvP or PvE?

    2) Sci-fi / fantasy or happy with both?

    3) What kind of gamer are you?  FPS / twitch combat or happier with slower / simple combat?

    4) Casual or hardcore gamer with time on your hands?  Looking for quick 1-2 hour fixes or prefer 8 hour blocks?

    5) What do you like doing in games?  Crafting? Combat? Tank? Explorer?

Ok so its more than a few but if you could answer them I could give some decent advice.

    1) I prefer PVE but PVP is good too aslong as it's not the type where somone can randomly come up and kill you, Request or Arena is fine.

    2) Happy with Both but I do like Mage/Magic class if that helps.

    3) Hmm not 100% sure how to define it, I like group fighting like Partys but Solo is cool soon

    4) Erm it can vary, I do have quite abit of time on my hands due to my course finishing til Sept, But I do help my Boyfriend with Gigs lately so it can be a mix of both.

    5) Crafting is cool, Learning Magic, Explorering I guess I like Combat in groups, I tried Lineage and I liked how the combat worked on there but sadly the games very much dieing.

:) Any other questions I'm happy to answer anything that helps you with some ideas :D

Well Hotaru I wont tell you which game I think you should play but ones I can recommend and reasons are:

AoC - Needs decent rig but it has been improved vastly and the crowds are back.  Strengths are: PvP is advanced, lots of classes to pick from and several mage types and mixed mage types.  Avatars look realistic and several emotes available, PvE is some of the best I have seen with detailed dungeons and adult storylines (can join a PvE server).  Downside is it has loading screens between major maps and entering buildings and crafting, althought its being revamped, is a little light. (casual to serious gamer)

LotRO - maybe more for you.  Open world, nice graphics but not as demanding.  Crafting is fun and useful and the community seems very friendly and supportive. PvE only (monster PvP) and it has a great deed, trait system which rewards you for exploration, combat etc. Plus nice side line hobbies like fishing.  (casual to serious gamer)

Vanguard - Great PvE game with amazing housing and crafting system but may be quiet due to population. (needs a lot of time to play)

WAR - couldnt stand it myself.  Crafting seemed clunky, combat was average and its marketed as a PvP game but I found it hard to have a decent fight.  Seemed a bit lost for me but one of my friends love it.  (medium casual to serious gamer)

EVE - played 5 years but ran out of time for it.  Hardcore game with a lot of time needed to play.  Massive with steep learning curve.  After 5 years I am still learning.

You can play all on trials I believe and I think you should try out LotRO first followed by AoC and possibly Vanguard.

    Hope this helps

This helped me as well.  I couldnt really get into LoTRo for some reason.  And I was too scared to give AoC a try.  lol i heard too many horror stories.  But it sounds like devs are working to improve AoC so I might want to give it a shot.  I played SWG for a long time, but left after the NGE.  And I just got bored of WoW.

Might sound a lil odd but what are the outfits like on LoTRo?

Is there any websites where ya can see the kinda clothes Magic classes wear?

Well. I have played a couple games. Ultima Online , World of Warcraft, and Age of Conan. Sounds like U should try WoW on a PVE server and start with a Hunter Night Elf toon. That allows U to go places with your pet and hunt alone or in groups. Play around with pvp and area stuff. Or if U want Magic try a Warlock either gives U a sidekick to help u kill.   hope this helps.

Yeah for someone getting their feet wet with MMOs. WoW is a great game to try.  It's fun, without a great learning curve.  You can make it as little or as much complicated as you would want. :)

    Lol.  Seriously, just... ugh.

lol so i guess someone doesn't like WoW?

It's not the game, it's what he said and what he suggested.  A Night Elf Hunter?  Stereotypical noob class/race at it's best instead of just suggesting the class or the game.

I would check out screenshots and also some youtube footage of each game you see here. That way you get a good idea of the style and dynamics. AoC has amazing detail on its armour and on some occassions i have zoomed in and seen little figures carved out on the weapon hilt etc. However the clothes are in style with the game so they dont vary as much. Getting much better though with PvP and race gear.

LotRO has nice outfits. Not overly cartoonish and varies quite a bit. Its not common to see many players wearing the same outfit. Plus you have a lot of control over colours etc. Magic users in LotRO are relatively new and I do see some typical robes etc. Some level 60s I have seen look pretty cool!

Judging from what you want I would try WoW or LotRO. (never played wow) but at least you get lots of peopIe who play both and the learning curve is relatively easy.  AoC has a pretty in-depth combat system that may be a lot to take on with a first MMO.  I jump into LotRO for some chilled combat and peace of mind I wont be hacked to death by another player.
