"Hunter Loot!" ya.. some things never change. What people dont understand is certain classes have limited options. Specific sets within these classes have even fewer. IE. a tank wields a sword and board. They need one handed weapons.. period. Hunters have a lot more options in the 2h realm as well as ranged weapons which are much more powerful to them than a 1h weapon. anyway I feel im repeating whats already been said. As far as being branded a ninja looter, you definitely are. You're also a noob who needs to learn how to properly group and raid and how to properly equip your group/raid members for the betterment of the entire group/raid
Ah now we get to the heart of the matter. Playing a MMO like WoW or AoC or whichever you have to learn to play together as the whole picture unfolds. My problem at this particular time was the simple fact that I also did 97% of my questing SOLOING wich ment I went face to face with more and more MELEE attacks so the root of me WANTING that sword to better gain myself is oviouse and still poses the question is it wrong to want to gain your toon to a better life in your MMO world?
Side note as I join a guild I came to relize my acts as being selfish. Yes I admit it I even became good friends with a Pally tank who taught me that the tanks role was a difficult one. So I had to rethink my ROLE in my MMO life.
The main question that you should be asking yourself to answer your own dilemma is: Who would benefit more from that item? If the answer wasn't "I", then you should have passed.
This thread is another prove that you should run in guild-only groups.
This thread is another prove that you should run in guild-only groups.
DIce hmm first neat keyboard trick how did you do that? You mention the above. I agree to a point. guild only groups out way PUG groups. But running guild runs is not always possible so you are saying that one should not play if you can not run in a guild or just solo it until then. That I disagree you should have the same expectations in a guild run vs PUG run.
Bottom line I made the mistake and took the brillent looking sword. Yes I admit I should of let the Tank have it. At the time it was like lets say we are playing Duels and see that nice piece of ruby caught in that female toons breast if you could need roll it even though you particialy could not use it would you ?? All depends on what kind of player you realy are. I learn my lesson only because I choose to be a better gammer end of story.
I don't have too much experience with WoW but this was a common theme when it first came out with a running joke that every piece of loot was 'Hunter Loot'. Being purely DPS IIRC and this being a common occurence I'm surprised that by now they aren't blacklisted by PuGs.

I won't reiterate what others have said, since I think you've realized the mistake and why it was that it was a mistake, but I have to wonder at your comment that you had to keep meleeing when soloing.
If you play a hunter and you have to keep meleeing because things are attacking you, you need to take a bit of a look at the way you approach combat and the hunter class in general. You have a pet (you do have one, right?), which is used to tank things so that you DON'T get hit, and you DON'T melee (since you're a ranged class). Sure you have a few melee skills, but meleeing should NEVER be your main way of killing things. You have a pet, and a bow, and tons of ranged attacks, for a reason. Now, there's an "aggro" (or "hate") mechanic in the game; as long as the tank (in the case of soloing, this would be your pet) has more aggro than you, you can happily plunk arrows into the mob and never have it smash your face in.
The easiest solution to see your aggro (besides using an addon like Omen, of course, which is the best) -- Blizzard has put an aggro meter in the game, you might want to look at your Interface Options and turn it on (it's set to only turn on in instances by default). Practice not getting aggro more than the tank. This means, practice attacking a mob without pulling the mob off your pet (and having the mob come over to hit you), while trying to do as much damage as before. It's a good concept to learn, especially if you ever want to do more instances. DPS classes who don't understand the aggro mechanic can and do cause wipes: they start blasting at the mob before the tank secures aggro, or what-have-you.
In any case, you have the Feign Death ability that you can use if you get aggro. Activate it, you pretend to die, the mob goes to smack the next one they hate. Of course it's a good thing to do this BEFORE you get so much aggro that you pull the mob off the tank, so that there won't be any risk of this. In any case, one thing to know about Feign Death usage in instances -- if you aggro something, and it's hitting you, and your healer is frantically trying to heal the damage, and you feign death, most of the time what you've done is seal the healer's death sentence. Due to all the healing that she'd been doing, the mob hates her a whole bunch, and if she's second in line in aggro after you, you feigning death means the mob will go attack HER instead. Which, of course, is a VERY BAD THING.
Hmm.. I think I've gotten a bit off-topic, but I just felt I had to say something after seeing you repeatedly talk about MELEEing something as a hunter.
so let me get this right.....you knew all along that the tank wanted the drop BUT you dident say anything at all even tho the dude was talking about the sword the whole fking time AND you still rolled need for it?
I am kinda amazed that you yourself cant see that what you did was just wrong....
Where does the classic "loot drop" come from? D&D and other Table Top games. How did you play a table top game? Well, it was a Game Master, and some people that were real life friends that sat around a table once or twice a week. There was no such thing as a "pick up group". There was no such thing as "solo play", and "I don't have time for LFG, so the game MUST BE SOLO FRIENDLY!!!!".
And there's the rub. People playing in a group like they are playing a solo game. And they SHOULD. Why? Because you will never likely see the people you're playing with again, AND on top of that, ALL characters need game money.
So the Ninja Looting thing is stupid, doesn't belong in online games, and is easily solved.
Dungeons and Dragons ONLINE did it quite well. When you group, a CHEST drops. EAch player gets a pull from the Chest. My pull from the chest has nothing to do with you. I can't Ninja Loot, I can't take your loot, I don't know what loot you got.
Problem solved with good game design. It doesn't make sense to use a system designed for 4 or 5 real life friends sitting around a table fora game with 3K people playing on a server, and people constantly whining they need to solo.
Firstly, I was gonna call you a dickhead for rolling on a clearly non-hunter sword, but then I was pleased to see that the tank got it in the end anyway, so good on you for that. After all how long were you planing to use that sword, as soon as you get a chance for a decent hunter sword it would become redundant, whereas the tank would use it for a long time.
Secondly, Masterloot is your friend!!! Group leader should have set to masterloot, especially since he wanted this sword so bad. I remember back in the really really good ole days of WoW when I was going for my Shadowcraft set, all I needed was the tunic, so I made numerous UBRS groups to try and get it, I formed many many of my own raids back in the day. Anyway as I was forming the raid, there were few spots left and another rogue wanted in, I told him he can come on one condition, that if the tunic drops it is mine and mine alone. Needless to say it dropped and although he was a sad panda I still got it.
Thirdly I don't play WoW anymore, haven't for a long time so I don't know how people loot these days, masterloot was always the bomb when I played. When I think about it now WoW really is a greedy prick game, one of the reasons I quit.

Bigdavo that was one of the reasons why i quit WoW also. I hope you have no plans on going back because TRUST me it has gotten worse, OH a side note UBRS was probely one of the best if not the best original raid content in the WHOLE game!! KARA did not even come close BLACK TEMPLE tried but gl finding anyone anymore for those pre 70 RAIDS it is all about the new RAIDS and BLIZZ is starting to create RAID on top of RAID on top of RAID CRAZY is all I have to say.

Typical huntard rolling on a tank weapon.
My sig is just as logical as your posts are
