Review from U.S resident (Michigan)

I have been playing the game from here (Michigan) on the European servers. I expperience literally no lag at all so that is not the problem. I was very excited about this game and then I got it going and was still excited.

First you make your character which gives u a bunch of options, after that when you start the game you are on this flying ship, which is basically a tutorial phase which teaches you the game mechanics..Still liked the game at this point seemed very cool. Then after you defeat a bunch of monsters at the end of this tutorial you get ported to a town. Things still looking cool I like the graphics and the combat system seems pretty cool at first...

So now you pick up your first few quests which are pretty typical, kill 5 young boars, deliver a letter to whoever..etc... Which is fine with me since it is the beginning of the game.

After playing for a while and reaching level 5 where you can choose your real class to play with I was already getting kind of tired of the game. It might just be the lack of players that where in game but things just seemed empty to me. I don't really know how to explain it but yea.. Also for the combat shooting arrows is really weird at first. You charge up your shot and if you let go if your crosshair is a hair in front of your target where he is running towards it wont hit him. You need to have the crosshair right on the target which is weird because half the time it feels like the arrow is going into nothing since your target might be running somewhere. So imagine football game if you throw the ball where the player was hes not gonna catch the damn ball you have to lead him with the ball, there is no leading with the arrow here you have to shoot where he was..idk just seems weird to me.

If comparing the graphics to WoW I would say there a tad better, I like the enviornment in the game but there seems to be a few bugs still which is expected on any new mmo i suppose. But Im gonna play a little longer today and see if theres any hope to keep my interest. I mean its an ok game but doesn't feel as ground breaking as I hoped it was gonna be with its combo system and such. Also another thing that bugged me is if you click on anything it ALWAYS re-centers your mouse to the middle of the screen which is really annoying.

If you want me to answer more questions let me know I could probably make this review three pages but It's long enough lol.

Btw the archtype i choose was rouge final class i decided to go with is Skinshifter

so far 6.8/10

just curious, how did you come up with a 6.8/10? why not 7/10. there just odd you would choose a .8 considering you dont have any base scores in your review. hmm. good review though and is a good game. just wish they would stop with delays in NA and release it already. world of warcraft 2 will be out by the time acclaim actually releases

Cool someone else from Michigan on the forums!! :) I have been interested in seeing how this games turns out hwne it is released here in the US. If they give na open beta here I will be sure to try it and see if if it something that keeps me interested.

The game should be out within a few weeks. If no problems show up probably sooner than that.

OP, Thanks for the review, I disagree with the combat part of it though. I have found the combat system in this game to be a breath of fresh air and haven't had any problems with utilizing my bow or throwing gadgets at targets.

Some of the quests are generic kill whatever mob type of quests, but the game does have a large amount of much harder more in depth quests. The newbie area and hawksmouth alone have a good few.

I mean this game might be for some but I don't feel the breath of fresh air in the combat system like som do.. I mean your sheild you have equiped serves no pupose other than the way it looks no extra def, resistance..nothing.. Idk seems weird to me. Other thing I have been playing rouge class and there is no dual wielding implemented in the game yet so just seems weird to me as well so im a rouge with a shield? and the shield does nothing so i just took it off cause i felt weird.

There are good qualities to the game don't get me wrong but overall I am no longer interested in this game. One big plus tho is the pvp its not 3 combos and u get killed or kill the other person, u actually have to fight for a while. This is because you start with like 1.2k health at lvl 1 at lvl 6 now i have 2.1k health. I do like the combo attack reel thingy but I kinda wish there was a standard attack for ranged and melee that just stayed idle that you could use over and over.. but i guess there is no point to that since the attacks dont use stamina or mana or anything like that..so i guess that was stupid argument i just had with myself.

As a skinshifter i can transform into a wolf (animal) or cut throat (pirate type) so far. So you can run past the eneimes while transformed which is neat but you cant ineract with the mobs if ur transformed just wont get attacked. Also if u transform in a town thats normally friendly you'll get attacked by the guards heh. I really like this ability but wish you could get a first attack out of the form before shapeshifting back to normal. Also the wolf form cant strafe or move backwards must be a bug i guess.

Since i got yelled at i guess i would give the game a solid 7/10, but im lookin for a 9+/10 game to hold my interest I guess we are all becoming spolied gamers and want the best at least i do.

But hey try it for urself when it comes out you can play for FREE up to lvl 8, but ur also restricted to 2 zones in free mode...But the zones are pretty big so don't worry about that.

Wrong guess. It is not a bug. When you transform into anything you get the abilities of what you transform into. Wolves cannot jump, strafe or move backwards, which gives you a small advantage when you fight them.

actually, for the shooting, it isn't a charge up, at least i'm 99% sure from what i played. It is when you click. So if you click to fire, that animation of firing is just there, and the damage is later, but to figure out if you hit or not is based on when you clicked to use the ability. Yes it seems weird, but i find combat fast enough pace that the last thing i really want is to figure out how fast the target is moving by how fast my arrow goes in order to aim properly.

the game does seem empty, but that is players. When players come into it, it will seem a lot more full.

    i felt weird.

There is definitely a big adapting period. You can basically forget about how you think things *should* work, and play the game for what it is. If you can't do that then yeah... it will feel weird to anyone.

Game_Creator, have you played Runes of Magic in the last couple months? Release is just a couple days away. Its definitely approaching that 9/10 point AND its free. The classes all work in a standard way so you won't feel weird about what they do and don't do. I hate games that don't have a real combat system, but besides that, RoM has more features in beta than most games have 3 years after release. The combat is WoW style, but it has mounts, player housing, guild cities, multiclassing, and all kinds of other bells and whistles.

The draw for TCoS is the real time mobile combat system. If you don't like that then you probably won't like the game.

I say it felt weird because I really just didn't like it to be honest. Its like if you were to play Super Mario and when you jumped it jumped like .6secs later it would just feel a little off or weird... that's how TCoS felt a lot of times to me. I love the type of combat it offers but it just doesn't feel fluid enough for me. I loved Oblivion and am currently just going to wait and see what Mortal Online has to offer most likely just hype but we will see.

And like I said people don't have to take my review to heart try it yourself for free maybe the NA version wil be slightly better who knows...

    weird.. ^_^

I will try Runes of Magic since you mentioned it sounds like a decent game

It definitely should not have been feeling like that. I felt like it was very responsive unlike games like Vanguard and LotRO. Were you using the locked mouselook mode and the scroll wheel for ability selection?

Honestly that sounds strange, like the poster above me has pointed out. The only delay I have had was when my concentration was lowered in a fight. This slows your attack skill speed.

If the game really felt like it had some type of delay  you might have had another issue. User or server side I do not know. But the game really does not feel like that from my perspective at all.

That would be called lag.  What do you expect when you connect to international servers?

This is, honestly, the first time I've ever heard of someone feeling weird about using a shield in a game so they took it off. lol...  If everyone who played a cleric in EQ1 played a priest in WoW, it'd be like quitting because you were limited to cloth armor, and omg we all know how unpopular WoW is.
