If that's true, I don't think it means AC1 is a bad game. I think it's due to the fact that the game hasn't been in stores for quite a while. Let's be honest, AC1 isn't any worse than EQ and UO (the two most closely related games) or I won't even say any better. It is a top quality or at least average MMO, but the fact it hasn't been on shelves and had limited advertising at launch hurt is sevrely. It's a shame too, I doubt AC1 will ever recover from it and even get to half the subscribers of EQ or UO (which are the MMORPG's I say it's at least on level with). Hopefully it will be different for MEO and D&D (other games Turbine, the AC1 and AC2 developers, are making incase you didn't know).
Wouldn't that change with the up coming expansion releasing a new retail of AC? I'm personally looking forward to starting AC again when that happens. I have a lot of good memories of the game and the fact that, with the new retail, we will get a new player base to the game to keep it fresh. I would think this would offer the opportunity for AC to recover and become a major player in the industry again.

Originally posted by Mareon Does anyone know how many players does Asheron's Call have?
AC has roughly 50,000 subscribers.
Compare to AC2 which has roughly 6,000 TOTAL subscribers!
AC has been out for roughly 5 years. It has re-couped all investment costs. The game runs itself in terms of costs vs profit. It is worth trying because of its many unique features.
[Some one mentioned seeing a lot of buff botts. Sadly, many online games have this. DAoC, EQ, and more. Buff botts mean nothing as long as you play to have fun, and not to race other players. ]

About the only thing that can be said for sure, without official comment is at peak times there are around 6,000 players online.
According to the MMOG subscription chart, http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html, there are around 45,000 total subscribed.
