I've taken up Trolling!

SpeedhaakSpeedhaak Member UncommonPosts: 296

Yes, you read correct, I've decided to amuse myself somewhat on the official (European) World of Warcraft forums by taking up the fine eSport known only as Trolling. Why have I decided to do this? Well for a number of reasons, one being my current boredom with MMO's in general and the other being my complete disregard for the Internet and the foul beasts it produces. Over the years I've laughed, Cried and raised my first at the screen as I've been subjected to some of the most unbelievable threads and posts, the kind of stuff you couldn't make up. So as of recently I decided to play my own little games and have started to see how far (and consequently how dumb) some of the WoW players are by making some of the most obscene and relentless threads over on the European boards. Day one has already had some fruitful responses; best one being a players response to me calling a Troll (as in the Race in WoW) a Troll - which went something like " lawlz you come on here (bla bla bla ZzzzZZ snooze) trolling and then you call someone else a Troll? lawla\zz"

Anyway yeah, obviously my Trolling is relegated to the WoW forums, but it's been a hell of a lot of fun winding up some of the more gullible WoW players :P Regardless of your moral stand-point I think you'll find it great fun when excersised on the right environment.

Not easy to be a master troll.

The best trolls are so good that most posters have no idea their being trolled.

Something like "Man, Eve would be so awesome if it had instanced king of the kill matches and a ladder system with ship vendors".

Most people on this forum wouldn't even know that guy just set up a Epic flame thread that would probably grow 400 posts large with thousands of views.

Hell if he was smart he could pull a "It's only a feature (tool) last time I checked limiting tools in the box limits the game, If you love Eve like I do you would want this too".

    GL with the trolling.

    Playing: EvE, Ryzom

Haha, yes it is quite the fine art. It always brings a smile to my face (again on the WoW forums, because most of them bloody deserve it) when I see people protest with such feirce resolve to a post that has obviously been orchestrated to provoke a response from its viewers. Time will tell if I am any good at it.

The US WoW Off-Topic forums are always good for a nice giggle.

can't say I know about the EU Off-Topic forums though.

maybe this is a troll thread meant to enrage WoW players on this forum?   =P

I love WoW, but yes.... there are a lot of idiots playing it....

on the other hand I dont think there is any lower a percentage of idiots here... they are just of a different variety.

I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't htink this is the best forum for trolling. Sure, you can get some little flame wars going, but there are much better places to start epic year long pissing contests. Here are some examples...

Go into a feminist forum and ask how patriarchy also hurts men.

Go to a fundamentalist Christian forum and ask what happens to Jews in the afterlife.

Point out that marriage is a tyrannical and oppressive religious institution on a gay forum.

Bring up the death penalty in a pro-life forum.

Bring up pro-life in a thread advocating the right to die.

Go to an animal rights forum and ask if the discovery of a really cute and animate houseplant would make it unethical to eat vegitables as well.

Depending on delivery, any of these will lead to threads with thousands of pages of poorly spelled, grammatically incorrect profanity in all caps. A couple of those might even illicit one or two genuine death threats!

    Now that's entertainment!

I don't think you'd make a good troll. If you take it to the level you are its not gonna work out and you're gonna feel stupid. Mebs you won't think you are, but you'll end up looking stupid. If you're making it a sport, saying you have no regard for the internet, you wouldn't be telling us here. Basically, it seems as though you are saying:

"I have no regard for the internet or what y'all think, but here is what I am doing; are you impressed with my logic?"

Maybe I'm getting the wrong impression, but advertising that you've turned to the dark side because of a new realization because of the internet won't last you more than three days tops. If you're not a troll, which you aren't, why pretend to enjoy it? I reckon about 20% of the European forum lurkers in WoW are children, the rest will just think you're dumb.

It is saddening that someone of your age cant find another meaningful way to fight his boredom and spent the time. You are toying what may be precious to others, even if not for you. I thought there were enough things darkening our world in small and big already.

Acting like a clown to see how many clowns you can attract is an interesting form of entertainment.
