Looking for MMORPG with direct weapon control and aiming, no auto attack, fast paced

yatahazeyatahaze Member Posts: 1

OK, so basically I'm looking for any fast-paced MMORPG in which you have direct control over your weapon and have to aim at your target in mouselook mode. I just find it pointless to select an enemy and watch my mannequin do the job. How is it roleplaying if I don't even have control over the weapon? Both Third and First Person would be good. It would be cool if there were movement skills (jumping, dodging) involved as well but I don't have high hopes for that.

I'm an avid player of high-speed shooters like Warsow and Quake and I would like to see a MUCH bigger impact of player skill, both in PvE and PvP. Lots of RPGs are so incredibly slow and tedious that I find myself quitting seconds after having seen the running animation. It would be so awesome to see an RPG in which I can just run/jump like a madman if I need to go somewhere, rather than idly watching the running animation for 30 seconds.

Also, no "misses" and "critical hits" would be nice. How can you miss a projectile that just flew directly into your teeth? That doesn't even make any sense. Even better would be no stupid numbers coming out of people's heads. Who the hell started this? Diablo 2 didn't have this, there was no need to add this pointless information.

I've tried like 20 games. So far I've found Chronicles of Spellborn which is OK, Risk Your Life which is garbage, Savage 2 which isn't really an MMO, Rakion which also isn't an MMO. A couple of MMO shooters are coming out like CrimeCraft, Huxley, Global Agenda but these are still in the distant future.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

TLDR: read thread title.

You could try darkfall but you would be wasting 50$ for hour long queues, endless ganking and even worse grinding. So I suggets you take a look at Mortal Online (still in development). It's sorta like oblivion and has realistic combat (for example each enemy has about 10 hitboxes). You should check out their most recent video.

One of the only games that had this is Hellgate: London, which was shut down due to bad management and business decisions. This is the reason its so tragic the game failed, there isn't many alternatives if you enjoy this type of game play.

    Waiting for:

    -Games-
    -Re-Launch of Hellgate:London US/EU Servers
    -Diablo 3

    -A PvE centric MMORPG with-
-Fast paced twitch-action combat that requires hand-eye coordination, where you can manually aim your attacks instead of having to acquire/lock target(s) first.
-FPS-style WASD and mouse control that determine your overall success when attacking or defending.

Plenty of games like that, and some really good ones too. The Call of Duty series is good, adn so are the Battlefield games. They are called "First Person Shooters." You don't need to wait, they are already here, however not many first person shooters with bows and arrows and spells,  if that is what you are looking for. But you could basically mod Call of Duty and make it bows and arrows and spells instead of guns.

I think you may be confused over what is "roleplaying". What you described, watching your character do something, not YOU the real live person, is roleplaying. You are asking for the OPPOSITE of roleplaying. Which is fine, both are fun, just seems you ahve the terms confused.

It's ROLEPLAYING when your character has the abilities, NOT YOU. For example, YOU , the real live person are crippled in a wheel chair, and can barely move the mouse. However, your CHARACTER is a 50th level paladin and can kill dragons. THAT is roleplaying.

YOU, the real live person are 15 years  old with l33t mouse and keyboard skills because you've been playing video games since you were 7, is NOT roleplaying, that's just twitch skill.

Control interfaces like you describe are what MMOFPS' have been trying to achieve for quite some time, though none of the ones that I've tried have ever managed to do it without compromise. I too would love an MMO that had controls like Oblivion/Fallout 3 but unfortunately it still seems to be a few years away from being achievable.

It'll be great when it happens though.

And yeah, I hate miss/crits too .. the best that I can imagine is that they were added to games to mitigate the predictability and increase the importance of statistics in the combat mechanic by incorporating RNG and gear to augment it, but they're still bloody annoying at times.

Fallout 3 uses turn based combat with the VATS system. It's all about crits, and character stats.

Yah, I never use that .. it sucks for sniping, needs a ton of perks to boost it and just generally turns a fun FPS into a slideshow, especially with that level 20 perk that means you can wipe out a roomful without ever leaving it.

Never understood what it was intended for, presumably to allow nubcakes to feel imba.

watch the new mortal Online trailer thats exactly what your looking for with real aiming and focus. Unlike darkfalls humpfest this will provide realistic combat where ones mind will be the victor not potions. Mortal also has first person Mounted combat which will provide the realism and immersion in real combat.

I think one of the reasons why you don't see this type of action in MMO is that lag is much more unforgiving when the combat is fast-paced and in real-time.  You can't have a 300-500ms ping time and have that kind of fast-paced action without some pretty obvious lag effect.  It's like that in Planetside where you can dodge a missile by a hundred feet and yet still get blown up by it.  Hopefully over the next 10 years or so as network technology improves, MMO real-time high speed action will be easier.

While it is easier to fill the role of a ninja with a simple button press for "sword swing" or "flaming kunai throw," it does not necessarily mean that this is the ONLY way to approach an MMORPG title.

In Ninja Gaiden, for example, we are given the task of role playing as Hyabusa, a ninja who utilizes a variety of weapons and special skills to defeat his enemies. The reason why this game was so well recieved was because it was so "twitchy." I understand that Ninja Gaiden falls under the "action/adventure" genre, but it does not change the argument that a role is being played.

By adding twitch skill into a regular role play game, developers are adding along with it many layers of depth that may not be experienced otherwise. Players can attest to this in games like first person shooters, where we are in the front seat of the action.

IMHO, nowadays FPS's seem to be doing a better job of creating roles for us gamers to actually experience, while the RPG's attempts at oversimplifying tasks tends to take away the situational awareness and immersiveness that it initially intended to create.

In short, that little 15 yr old with the crazy twitch skills is roleplaying. As for the cripple, at least he has that paladin..

..and so is Planetside.   All your hits, misses and damage are stat based.  Its no FPS.   Aiming is simply a target check, instead of hitting tab to lock on.  Once you know this, it kind of makes all the twitchy gameplay kind of pointless.  I can go play UT or COD and get better graphics, better gameplay and better maps with no monthly fee while my skill actually matters.   If I want to play an FPS, I'll go play one, not a psuedo fake FPS like Planetside.
