Ok,
So how many others are out there who spend more time remaking and re leveling and remaking and changing the race and somtimes even changing a name or hair color then actually playing there MMO of choice?
I hope its not just me. There are days when ill lvl a class to 10 only to have it pop in my head i should have made a dwarf instead of a human. Or ill decide no, maybe i want to be a hunter instead of a warrior.
My wife can somtimes sit watching TV for 2 hours and she will look over and say OMG. I think you only like to make people then actually play the game
I have got a char to lvl 13 and decided he would have been better with longer hair and it should be black instead of red. And start him over.
Anyway, please tell me it isnt just me who has 10 lvl 8s- 15s on an account.
Am i insane!
Cheers!

Me, I have never made it to max level in any MMO. I've play CoH/CoV for 5 years. I have proably craeted over 50 charaters for that game. I have many level 40s (max level is 50).
About 15 level 30s in WoW (never even got a mount). About 10 Level 30s in WAR. Same for every game.
Altaholic reporting for duty sir!!!!!!!!
haha.
Dude I just don't have the time to stick to one character and get to the point where im setting schedules and running raids or Sieges.
I roll my alts play little by little and have a great time doing it.
Im playing WAR right now an im using 6 classes leveling them level for level there all about Rank 15-16 and RR 13-14.
I'm having a blast.
Playing: EvE, Ryzom
Dude you're my hero.
You can play any mmo and have a good time, you never need to worry about lack of endgame content.

I want to get to max level in CoV because it opens up two more classes I can build with. So instead of using my level 45 to get to level 50 I, I started a new char two days ago which is now level 30! HA HA HA. I am a true altaholic.
You're not insane for wanting to stretch your creative muscles. That's why I prefer skill based systems, because then you can learn all of the skills you're interested in on one character. As for races, I enjoy the elves, because they are usually more noble and wise, and usually are more magically attuned, naturally attuned, and more fluid in their melee arts. Secondly, I like humans, because of their culture among other things. So choosing a race for me really depends on the culture and history of that race. If I can relate to that culture or wish that culture was my culture, then I play that race. I don't play another other types of races, because I cannot visually relate to them. So that limits the race choices right there, which is good. As for hair color, body builds, and etc., that stuff really should be able to be changed in-game. WoW allows this now, SWG has always allowed this, and DAoC allows this. Games are moving towards this, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.
It's usually trying out and liking a variety of classes that causes my altitus. I'm your typical human that enjoys variety. I believe variety is the spice of life and if I can't have all of my playstyles in one class, like you can in sandbox games, then I end up having a bunch of characters, all fulfilling a different need. The problem with altitus is that every time you reroll, you end up redoing the same content. So that gets old fast and I lose interest in the game before even getting halfway through it. Another problem is the grass is always greener syndrowe. While I'm playing my fighter, I start to wish I could throw some fireballs. So I create a wizard. While casting fireballs and getting pummeled to death, I wish I had heavier armor. So I create an archer to have a mix of range damage and survivability. A week later, I see another player with heavy armor on and it looks sweet, so I start wanting to play a fighter again. Rinse and repeat for all kinds of different classes. I see this as a problem of game mechanics, not me. I prefer sandbox games, because I can create exactly the type of character I like. In SWG I was able to do this and was quite happy with only having one character. Also, by switching characters I become enchanted with the new one, and disenchanted with the old one, even though I liked the old one. I like new things and the new class is my new thing. It's hard to go back to the old thing, especially when I start to see things this class had, that the other class didn't. But eventually I miss some things the other class had that this one doesn't and I get confused on which one I'd be happier with, because I am happy playing all the classes easily.
Therefore, I came to the conclusion that if I ever want to really play the game, I need to pick one class and all others be damned. Maybe my lack of decision is that none of the classes wow me into playing them. They are all good at some things, bad at others, or mediocre at all things. Classes that are good at all of the things I like, wow me and I am happy playing them. The Thane wow'ed me in DAoC. The TKM/MFence, TKM/MPike, and Jedi wow'ed me in SWG. The Death Knight wow'ed me in WoW. I'm playing WAR, because I have turned into a player who likes casual PvP and rarely likes PvE. I think quests in MMO's are horribly boring and prefer the challenge of fighting real players. WAR allows me to do that at lvl 1 and I can get my PvE fix of fighting regular mobs by doing PQ's, instead of doing quests. No class has wow'ed me in WAR, but most are good enough to make me happy.
Heh, I've created 4 classes in WAR that I play. I'm probably going to narrow down though, unless they are different enough to offer something the others don't. I'm playing a BW, WH, SW, and Eng.
IN some games, its the character creation and early levels which are the best. The end game becomes much more grindy.
CoX is one MMO that is like this. I wager Champions Online may be similar

Man, we should start a support group. I'm totally the same way. I'm also a "game hopper" as my g/f says. I have tried a lot of mmos, and in each one I have to try out every possible class/race before I can settle on one. The only game that I even got close to the level cap in was SWG. To be honest, I don't see that as a bad thing. I really don't understand why people rush through a game only to complain about "end-game content". Life is all about the journey, yo. Maybe if more games focused on having great levelling content they would hold my attention long enough for me to reach max level. Actually right now EQ2 is doing a pretty good job with that so we'll see how that works out.
Also, I think COH/V is like crack for altaholics. That's actually one reason I quit that game, I couldn't stop making characters.

me.
I think I've found my niche though.
Combat healers are my fav. I'm a RPer though, so I'll experiment with different character and then think up backstories for them, just to make another and think up a different backstory because I get the urge to be something else.

Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!
Thats how I am treating Warhammer also....To me the journey is always more fun than the destination......I like playing many different characters and meeting many different people along the way.
Haha,
Great stuff gang, im glad im not alone!!!
And i do agree that WoW and a couple of other games had great ideas with being able to change your hair style and such. After all people do get hair cuts!
Yap, me too, any names that i dont like down the road, or the hair color, height etc... i will not hestitate to delete them even if they have reach level 20 plus...
To me since im going to spend a certain long time with him/her, than its gona be close to perfect.
Have done that for so many that i lost count. So far only 1 toon manage to survive and hit max level in WoW XD
RIP Orc Choppa
I just recently played a trial for COX again and after making 6 toons in a matter of hoursI realised this is why I quit last time and just stopped logging in for therest of the trial.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Lol,
whats funny is my only max toon between ,LoTR, CoH, WAR, and EQ2 is in WoW
That's one thing I miss from SWG, if you didn't like something about your toon you could change it. More games need to offer more ability to change your toon.

*Raises hand*
Have made a couple dozen alts that never made it over 70ish in Anarchy Online, many didn't even hit 30. Level limit there is 220, so the proportions are about right. It isn't usually cosmetic appearance that gets me though (particularly since it was possible to change all aspects of appearance, if not at all cheap), for instance I will be going through and realize that this or that weapon skill I invested in wasn't really suited for the character in the long term, so I'd start a new one, only to start over again with a different race for the attribute differences...
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

in WoW I had a level 29 hunter. I wanted him on a horde and to be orc so I rerolled. (never played him again after I got him to 20-odd) Actually that was an annoyance of WoW, you pvp and found ally was completely rubbish so you wished you had made all your characters horde.
I rarely reach the level cap in any mmo before i quit because i keep making new alts, leveling it halfway then doing it again. Its painful, but its just to iresistable!
I'll toss my hat in the ring on this one.
I love to experiment with games and see what's available. New geography, new mob behavior, new character abilities, etc. The great thing about the early levels of games is that the content comes quickly. Things change. There's new stuff to do. Creating a new character of a different class, race or starting area means that the game changes a bit. So I run through the early levels to see how it works. As long as it remains entertaining, I'll stick with it.
I also always play solo games on the easiest setting. I want to see the game content. I'm capable enough and persistent enough to grind away at more difficult settings, but it slows down the pace of new content. Knowing that I can handle the difficult settings is enough. I don't feel a need to prove it to myself.
I'm an explorer. I love seeing what's out there, whether it is classes, monsters, geography or the players themselves. Achievement is definitely a distant second or third in my gaming priorities.
Edit: typo
Agree
I play CoH/CoV for about a week or two and created easily over 300 characters. I spent maybe 1 hour playing the game, and the rest (which was a lot) creating characters. I remember playing it with a friend and he commented that I never was online, so I told him I was, only I was only making characters. Ah, the problems of a well done character creation...
That apart I'm more or less an altoholic. I usually got all classes in a middle level range and then settle for one playing it, but I always go back to my lovely alts. I've tried curing it, since most MMOs encourage playing one character only, but it didn't work.
ahaha.. good to know there are others like me out there
Which FF Character Are You?
Im currently trying LoTR on line agin, so far im on my 5th class in 3 days...i need help!
You guys just the best, I feeling I have found my true brotherhood (and sisterhood); I no longer feel freaky mmoer
I have alts of just about every class of every game I have played (character slots permitting). DAoC was the worse, not only where there tonnes of classes and realms, there was often two or more viable spec per class.
However, my Missus has to take the biscuit. Nearly five years of playing, one or maybe two level 50 (on DAoC). I recently checked her WAR account and found one 24 and the rest between 5 and 15 (playing both Order and Destro of course). She really gets bored quick with classes, once they level slowly and don't get tonnes of spells/actions per rank.
