have any/some/most of you actually stop for a second and think that the OP might not be talking about lore and rather about interface, graphical feel and in game systems?
Desconsider the RVR aspect and the warhammer lore, and WAR is IN FACT more similar to wow than LOTR or AOC.
In fact, going further, it there wasn't a sucessful World of warcraft chances are we wouldn't have mythic's Warhammer online.
I have always being a fanatical Warhammer fan (warhammer in sthe sense of the universe and the tt game) but the arguments about who copy who are irrelevant in most cases when considering the transfer process to the mmorpg computer game envinronment.
*Caveman A draws a line in the dirt with a stick. *Caveman B draws a line in the dirt with a stick, but it's pointing slightly to the right and it has a little curve at the end. Caveman A: "OOH OOG YOU COPY ME!" *Caveman A knocks Caveman B unconscious and feeds him to a Woolly Mammoth.
When it comes to style, WAR is not similar to WOW. Warcraft I was based on Warhammer pen and paper game. The shoe is on the other foot. WOW is similar to WAR.
I recently left WOW for WAR, and I would have to say that the gameplay is night and day between these two games. Warhammer has a focus on PVP and has short bursts of action. WOW is completely PVE focused to the point where you shouldn't even bother with PVP. That's why I left. TBC introduced resilience and made WOW PVP worth doing. WOTLK nerfed resilience into the ground and now it's the same game I hated before TBC came out.

If WAR and WoW are alike bogs down to how much you know about videogames, and your opinion of this(when you reply to this topic, for instance) can say a lot about just how much you really DO know!
Both of the game's art look similar. Toon-ish characters and flushed with colors in all aspects.
From a game designer's perspective, it's yin and yang. WoW is trying to be the holy grail of PvE(or... it tries to be both PvE and PvP... WoW is a subject for evolution, but that's another discussion) and WAR is thusly trying to be the holy grail of PvP. Though, both try to serve both, but their main focus are opposites.
The skills are similar, you perform a precalculated set of countermeasures of you're a ranged DPS and a melee dude runs in your face. You do this in both games very similar.
Say, if I'm a Hunter in WoW and I'm getting a rogue up my arse, I'd either use Scatter Shot(to disorient the player from targeting me and unable to control his character) or use Wing Clip to reduce his movement speed.
When I'm a Shadow Warrior, for those who do not know is pretty equivalent to a Hunter in WoW, I use Whirling Pin which acts as an AoE root followed by Takedown to reduce movement speed(a ranged Wing Clip).
Some may say, on the other hand again, that the games are very different. WAR is all about an infinite, persistent, never-ending WAR and everyone knows it, and you're contributing from either side; while WoW is all about fallen heroes, epic deeds and and a call to save the magical world of Azeroth itself.
Jesus, just go play either fucking game and stop the pathetic whining already!

That war is 99.9% copy of WoW and they told "me".... that War is totaly difirent then WoW and other games. From my personal opinion... they wanted to make easy $$$$ of you guys/ladies.
I know some of may not agree with me, but this is my opinion.
You really have no idea how insanely ironic it is to say Warhammer is ripping off Warcraft.
Fact: WAR did try to sell this game in the light of that "its not another WoW". Every dev interview I watched, all they did was reference WoW and made fun of it. To me its kind of hard to make fun of the most *successful* MMO in the Biz.
To me thats a red flag, you spend more time noting and advertising that its not something, rather then saying what it is. Because in the end, it doesn't hold a candle to WoW. WoW by this time was rapdily expanding there server count, rather then merging and removing there servers. Why? What WAR fan boys wont tell you, its just not that good of a game. Keep playing and waisting your money every month hoping one day that glorious patch will come and fix all the problems and make it that great game you thought it would be.
I've played my fair share of WoW and WAR, but im in no way a fan boy of either one of them. In the end, MMORPG.com is a haven for people who love to hate on WoW, and preach up their own game.

I agree here, but I wouldn't say WAR isn't fun at all to anyone. Why would they have people in T4 fighting over the cities if there wasn't anyone? I admit, I'm a fanboy to WAR. But I'm not going to go around shoving it in people faces. Meh.
Blizzard made World of Warcraft based on Warhammer IP A deal with Game workshop was canceled. Blizzard launched it as its own IP
So ya Warhammer and World of Warcraft look somewhat similar. Duh.
Stupid kid
That's a complete myth. And a complete LAUGH. World of Warcaft based on Warhammer??? What a joke !!!!!
Give me ONE official link of GW or Blizzard confirming this thin air rumour.
You can't.
Besides Warcraft 1 began in 1994 as a RTS game (it would take 10 more years to launch World of Warcraft).
The Lore of both games are MILES apart as the very beginning of Wacraft 1 shows back in 1994 (Medivh, Tower aka Karazahn, Dark portal, Elwyn Forest, Stormwind etc ...)
And ... what has a miniatures game to do with a Real Time Strategy game in 1994?
Dude, he meant Warcraft 1, Warcraft was originally intended to be a Warhammer based RTS. But was rejected by GW in the end.
Hard to imagine the largest PC game developer would be essentially non-existant if Games Workshop accepted the deal.
Edit: By the way, the lore of both IPs are actually fairly similiar if you look through alot of the basic stuff. Also, the purpose of the miniatures was to basically play an RTS with plastic figures, putting into an RTS computer game actually seems pretty realistic.

Dude it IS a myth.
Give me ONE historical link coming from an official source.
You can't because there WAS simply not a connection between the two firms.
Also read the Lore of Warcraft 1, it is MILES away from the Warhammer TT games as from the VERY beginnings.
And what you write in blue means you don't have a clue (playing War TT from 1987). At that time no one even knew what an RTS was (it didn't even exist).
I played Dungeons and Dragons even BEFORE Warhammer btw. They had the same Fantasy settings.
D&D came from the Wargames hobby (both in miniatures and on board games and then we even talk ... PRE 1980 stuff. best wargames and games like Sword and Sorcery were made in .... 1978.
And I was there and played them ! No GW at all back then.
I am fed up with the lies of War fans coming out with these made up stories.
Ok...maybe I was suggesting that the idea of Warhammer and tabletop war games inspired the creation of the RTS? I don't know, I think you need to give up the hostility.

George Lucas invented the space, so Eve is just a copy of it.

Yep, I've read this three times and I agree 100%.
"TO MICHAEL!"
