We we're all fooled when we thought we knew what AOC was after trying the first 20 levels. WRONG ! I'm in the beta but willl never buy this game based on 7.9 levels.Could be fabulous, but who knows. I want to see a few trusted reviews(and those are getting harder and harder to find)....before my hard earned money leaves my wallet.

I'm kinda late to this party, but there are a few things in this thread that may have been overlooked.
Arawon, your hard earned money in AOC was about $50. For TCoS its $15. Big big difference. There is no box to buy.
fischsemmel, yes there is more to TCoS than a combat system. The enemy AI is much better than most games. This is something that you definitely won't see in the first hour of play. They intentionally dumbed down the wildlife in the starting zone so its not too hard.
Its still a RPG and how much difference do we see in RPG's beyond various advancement and combat systems? Art style, story, setting, these are all unique in TCoS. They are typically unique in any new IP and TCoS is no different. If the idea of a 'avatar' questing in an artificial world seems tired, then its the genre, not the game that is lacking to you.
Given the F2P portion is content limited it kind of is P2P after your 'trial'. And to add insult to injury it costs the same per month as premium titles. I am interested in playing it but it better be something special to get me to commit to what feels like a nickle and dime pay scheme.
So you would rather pay $49.99 for a box just to install the game instead of downloading it for free then subscribing if you like it?
Or you would rather it be free to play but to remain competitive you have to invest money into the cash shop?
Both your options add up to spending more on the game then the current option of free to download and try then paying monthly to subscribe.

Why bother really. Because in the end the one you quoted will never(?) get a game in legit ways and then afterwards pay for it depending on if he likes it or not. Would I be given that option I would never admit to enjoying a game anymore.
Sometimes one just ends up buying entertainment that was not that good as expected.
I guess I'm just of the mindset that if I don't get into it within an hour... it's just not for me. Kinda like a book, ya know? If the first sentence doesn't grab me, then why would I think that the rest of the book will? People say that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I assume the same people would say you shouldn't judge a book by its first sentence. But what I think is, if an author can't even find an arist to make the cover appealing... or can't even write one great sentence, JUST ONE... then it's hopeless.
Well I read the first sentence of this book, and it just didn't get my attention.
I played a few hours over the weekend and I'm in the same boat.....The game jsut didnt grab me either.......I like to find an occasionaal drop or get an occasional upgrade along the way.......The quests are less than thrilling and most of them arent even worth doing that I have seen anyway.......It sounds like in the end it is going to be a group oriented name hunt to get sigils and thats about it......I jsut dont see what motivation there is to play it long term.
Personally, I like this release model most of all. No big up front fee to pay just to see if you like the game and a subscription past level 7 means that the high end game will have a better community. They made a pretty big mistake with the Akklaim coins thing though for subscription. The sooner they get a CC billing system the better.
