Should I buy this game

Unfortunatly I missed out on the OB of this game. I am in need of a new game because FFXI is starting to get to me (been playing for a year now). I noticed the war between EQ2 and this game. I don't want to hear any of that crap. I want to know the good points about this game ex: OB community, soloing/partying, the grind... etc. let me know what you all think

Grind is not very long, level quickly, solo with some of the classes is not problem, solo with others is a little tougher. Good community in the game. Lots of fun.

Hate to douhble post, but since you asked. . .

Iwas pleasently surprised that having been a beta tester for EQ2 and WoW, that Blizzard has done everything a little bit better than any other fantasy mmorpg on the market.. .so even a little bit better is a better investment for my dollar for a very good return on the replayability and fun.

=Graphics – WoW because the graphics are clean, simple, not overly complex, they render wonderfully and don’t require a huge investment in processing or memory which allows for smoother game-play. Anyone choosing very high-end graphics is making the wrong decisions about why one game should be preferred over another. I think that 70% of the EQII community will not be able to take advantage of anything more than the lowest graphics setting, and at that level the graphics detail are not pleasant at all…very grainy and unpolished – not to mention that the claymation style graphics don’t appeal to me.

=Immersion – WoW because the storyline and quests lead to rewarding outcomes and can be intertwined with other stories and quests. In addition, PvP has purpose and the game-play is designed with PvE and PvP in mind, though it should carry more weight in terms of forcing people into player interactivity, but the direction is great. EQ have never been design with breadth and depth of balanced PvE and anything relating to meaningful role or game-play immersive PvP. EQ1 and 2 are just not, absolutely not PvP friendly games. . .it is an abysmal afterthought with EQ1 and EQ2. The WoW PvP incorporation enhances the short-term and long-term game experience. . .it adds a great sense of suspense and unexpectedness that is dynamic, rather than linear as you’ll find with the EQ PvE model of game-play. I don’t think there is an end-game with WoW, it is “open-ended” which means there is more to do and accomplish as you progress through the story, quests, etc.

=Quests – WoW allows for quest accomplishment with a nice blend of difficulty, ease of use, types, reward, adventuring, exploration and game-play immersion and story telling. Both games will have many npc’s that when engaged provide different quests, but seems like WoW makes the process less labor and downtime intensive minimizing the amount of time spent in-game searching over a very long period of time for a particular npc, site, location, etc. WoW is more questing friendly, not too simple by any means, just less labor intensive and a better use of my game-play with less aimlessly running around time. EQII gives the impression and I’d be concerned that it would be a much more laborious and confusing questing system with little to no descriptiveness of how you should accomplish your task, where the task needs to be accomplished, leading to too much wasted in-game time yelling for help and traveling in a completely different direction than that which should be taken. Though If your interested in quantity over quality, then EQII may be the choice. But WoW seems to have the better balance of quantity and quality.

=Environment – WoW seems to be a much less crowded and adventuring friendly environment that invites players to explore without feeling like a rat caught in a maze. EQII seems to be very claustrophobic. . .the cities, and wilderness environments seem very confining and because of that, not very fun to get around in or explore.

=General game-play: WoW has great game-play range for both harder-core and casual players. WoW seems like down-time between encounters is minimized by not having to spend a quarter of your game-play time resting to regenerate stamina or mana or fear of getting continuously pinned in by non-escapable gauntlet of mobs. The WoW adventuring fear factor is there, but it is manageable. With EQII, I have gotten the impression that you’d need an army of players to help keep you safe from the mobs in order to make it to the simplest destination safely.

With WoW, seems like though all mmorpgs have a healthy degree of mob bashing in order to advance, the WoW game-play environment and style of game-play will probably take much more of the sting out of the tread-millish feeling with their perceived more friendly questing system and less down-time game-play style. If you want to stick with the tedious game-play that EQ is known for, then WoW is not for you.

Recovering after getting killed by a mob or another player is very friendly. .you port to a grave-yard and have the option of ressing on the spot for a minor experience hit (which can be gotten back) or running for your corpse without a minor experience hit. . .in both situations, gear is not lost. That fact contributes greatly to the replayability of WoW.

I think that the community as a whole isn't that great, my ignore list was quite full from stupid people saying stupid things over general chat. That said, I did find that there were quite a few people I did enjoy playing with during the OB.

Just remember it was OB and it was free.  You are going to have a lot of people that will not be in retail.  Before open beta opened the community was really nice, I could tell the difference when Stress Test and Open beta started.  I myself added a few people to my ignore list after OB started.

I also thought the community sucked although I heard it was better on the RP preferred servers. Definently worth trying out regardless of community issues. Most people find a particuler group of friends and those are the people you hang out with anyways.

to the original question, I would say yes buy it.  I was really against this game, up until I played it.  I am not a warcraft fan.  And even when I logged on the first time I was thinking to play 10 minutes, see how much I hated it and log out.  I was hooked from the first minute.  A lot of the features are great, the ones that other MMORPGS should have had a long time ago. But I do hope Blizzard stays on top of this and keeps updating the game (more races/classes for example).  Now I can't wait for it to go live so I can get back on!

...ok Trust me do not get EQ2 its a trap it may look good and awsome and all but once in a week you may get bored of it...lots of my firends hated it...anyway get WoW its a really great game if you get it on the 23 not much ppl will be higher lvl then you beacuse everone needs to start over agian OB just ended so that means everones account is disabled and new servers will come out all their old charecters have been delted the graphics is not that bad and its really awsome when your a ghost! the commumity...iset that bad but lots of people in the game its acutally better solo but if you want war like Horde vs Alliance then you will be needing other players in a group or raid group if some enieime players coem attacking or if you want to attack them you need to be in a raid group...their kinda hopeless if your a low lvl in a raid group but if your at least lvl 22 you might get a better chance...the classes are great and you can have a profession like mining, fishing, first aid (etc). But you need to choose on your own of what you think there is still LOTS of stuff in the game and its tons of fun!!

I have to say that WoW seems to be the best parts of the genre all drawn into a beautiful environment. I kow t5he envitronment is not the highest resolution and the models aren't high poly, but the overall environment is pulled off really well. The colors and scale add so much. I've never been much of an MMORPG gamer, but I'll be joining the World of Warcraft

If you like to solo more then group then WoW is defintly for you. However if you are involved in a good guild and can group alot then I suggest EQ2. I personally am going to play WoW with my guild and we intended to group for the high level raids and PvP raids and instances.

I played in open beta for a week and only got my char up to lvl 15 and i seen some people with lvl 40 chars!! My brotherlaw was in closed beta and it took him a month to get to lvl 40, he just got to lvl 40 a few days befor open beta closed.  I think its crazy that some people can get ther chars to lvl 40 in just two weeks some people must have no life.

Um are we sure we beta tested the same game?

btw medium systems aka most real gamer comps can handle balanced settings on eq, lower end, higher performance settings, high end better quality.

Personally, WoW fits me quite well.  It's very solo friendly, though there are a few quests you might need a group for.  The community seems great theres pretty much always someone that will answer a question for you if you have one or help you out.  Sometimes people will "kill steal" or get angry about minor things, but if you go to any other mmorpg it will be the same way or worse.  My opinion of the community as of right now is really good.  In general WoW people hate EQ2 people and EQ2 people WoW people but guess what? We are not playing the same game! So the  "in game" community is just fine.

It's your decesion on what to buy, but I find this game really userfriendly and fun of course.

Depends on what you want in a game. I betaed WoW for about a month then gave my sub to my younger brother. To me it is MMORPG lite, too fast leveling, too many kids. Only way to advance is endless quests. On a side note I got into EQII a couple of weeks before retail and thought I would hate it because I detested EQ and SWG. Darn thing hooked me in big time. It has everything WoW has without the lag, bugs, and unstable servers that WoW has. Also you can play it solo group, quest or craft whatever your mood is. Sometimes I play for a half hour or sometimes 3 or 4 and it is always a good time.

What Jackdog fails to mention is that he's been forced to use Microsoft Excel to keep track of his quests because Sony forgot to make their game user-friendly.

I guess part of the challenge for him is enjoying the game despite it's blatant shortcomings.

You made the right choice anyway. ::::28::

I don't consider it forced more like playing smarter rather than harder. Actually I re wrote the spreadsheet into a Access database instead. Damn SOE for putting in so much content I have a hard time keeping track of all my quests. Chuckle.

Of course if I wanted to play MMORPG lite I know a game being released thius week that fits the bill.

    WOW is a ball..

Lots of fun to play. The classes were balanced well. I didnt have any trouble soloing with any of the classes. Trade professions are really neat and dont require a ton of items and time to perform. The environments are diverse and fun and best of all PVP is balanced and enjoyable.

I hope that helps. I plan on playing a Dwarf paladin on whatever west coast PVP server is out first. I will let you know which one when the server list is announced.
