8800 GTS 512 Mo Card
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0 Ghz
4 Go of RAM
Win Vista 64 Bits
DX 9.0,setting at high, average FPS : 90.
DX 10, setting at high, average FPS : 12.
I left the game at launch because i was getting 12 fps everywhere. Came back last month and noticed the game was now running smoothly. Today they launch their DX 10 version and altough the improvement in graphics quality is VERY noticeable, the FPS went WAYYYYYYY down.

Same issue here. (Intel core I7@3.6ghz, 4gb Ram, 2X 9800 GTX)
For a comp that makes Crysis it's bitch, I should be having less issues. Also, the textures seem to be stuck on low. (although they are maxed in the options)
However, it's still a test, not the final version. So for now at least, back to dx9.
an 8800 gts 512 G92 will not run the game @90fps average on high settings dx9, thats impossible as far as i know.
and going from 90 to 12 because you switched from DX9 to 10 is kind of TOO much, you can loose half of your fps but not 80% of it.
so i think there is something wrong with either your DX9 or DX10 config.
Patience........., if the optimisation they did on the DX9 version is anything to go by i am sure that they will get DX10 right as well.
But do expect an overall drop regardless as all those nice effects must come at a price.
Same here from 45-75 FPS on all max it went to all in all 5-10
i have Nvidia 8800 GT Intel Quad core 6800E 2.5 GHZ 4GBram running crysis warhead on max with 25-40 FPS
Though i have seen it coming so not really dissapointed just proves FC want's to release DX10 in whatever state to tell WE HAVE DX10 on GDC.... shows that even with Craig they want to hype something that is hardly working at all.

Eh what ? You are telling me what my FPS is ? Yes i was doing 90 on average with DX 9.0 on high setting. In fact my fps was often above the 100 mark ! Now i go to Funcom forum, they say start simple config and choose DX 10, and voila. DX 9.0 on high = 90 fps, DX 10 = 12 fps.
Quite sure thats why its a beta version, just turn it off.

Also note that it says DX10 TEST. This is a precurser to the formal client launch.
This is great! So they are putting on LIVE that need's to be tested? Yeah sure thing dude!

Indeed they need feed back from you, because it is possible that for all the testers it runs fine. But instead of telling you they have DX10 they say it is DX10 TEST.
Meh.......... this generation of "I want it all and i want it now"................what can you say..............

im not telling you anything dude, all im saying is that an 8800 GTS does not run aoc @90 FPS everything on high, unless you are running a very low rez or not doing any AA/AF or you have a very special card

It has been on the test server for some time now. They are allowing the public to test the client in the live environment. With a miriad of configurations performance will vary greatly and this allows you to see how it will perform.
This does not imply they have not tested in in the test environment extensively. Anyone following the game knows they have. I don't see what the issue would be with a test release of a tested application to get a broader experience and to allow the public to play with the settings.
Anyway, other than waving trees, grass, and cool water or fire effects it is not that sugnificant to me.
Who says i want it now? I'ts just simple question why not let it rest on testlive if in it's state it is not even playable?
I can wait for all ages i want but if they put a TEST on live then what test server is hell for?
As i said it's all about just saying on GDC they have DX10 on live and make peoples that dont know about game anything to fool them it is just FunCom once again but this time with Craig in it.

Because as the GD stated they want to gather more feedback about it, and the best way to do so is put it live so everyone can test it. Only a minority uses the test live servers compared to people playing the game so putting it live so peopel can test it themself will generate loads more feedback.
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

there is no need to argue about this, as you say he may be runing at 680X480 for we know.
His 90 fps maybe in a Dungeon for all we know...........

oh no im not argiuing, im just trying to learn here, i have an 8800 GTS on one of my PCs and ill be glad to know how to get an average of 90FPS everything on HIGH !
maybe he (the OT) is running at low rez but he said that his 90FPS is an "Average" so its definitely not only inside dungeons etc...
I'm sure there was some inflation on those numbers.

What's wrong with you!?!
It is not just a simple question as to why it is not just on the test server, because in your post you say they do it so that they can bragg about it on GDC.
Do you actually read what you write!
Of course your lagging. What do you expect. DX10 is better graphics than DX9 and taxes hardware MUCH more. Your 8800 is NOT enough for DX10 I can tell you that.
I run DX10 in LOTRO and I can't turn on shadows because I lag a bit too much (20FPS).
Here is my Rig:
Core i7 920 (OC to 3.3)
ATI HD4870 (OC to 790, 1100)
6 gig DDR3 1333
Soundblaster X-fi gamer.
If you think your not going to lag with DX10 then you are completely wrong. I am getting a 2nd 4870 today and resubbing to Conan to see the pretty graphics, I had an 8800 GTS before. If you want the pretty graphics you need to shell out the extra cash. Simple as that.
so how much performance increase are you expecting from the crossfire setting?
i dont wanna be a spoiler but i heard a lot of people complaining about not getting enough gain from an SLI config as they expected... and actually suggesting going with a single card.
There are already benchmarks that I have seen that show about a 40% increase in performance. Crossfire is advanced enough technology now that it is almost a 100% increase in performance with a two card setup from a one card... this is just from the benchmarks I have seen though.

Last time I played this game I had this rig:
8800GTS 320mb
Q6600 2.4GHZ
4Gig DDR2 1066
I could run mostly high graphics at about 30 FPS, was only the cities that slowed it down a bit. Haven't played with new stuff yet. I expect my currect setup can do around 30-40FPS on all high settings anywhere, and with 2nd video card I will get around 40 at highest settings. I will let you know my results though, I am also interested in my DX10 performance.
Shadows are the single most heavy hitting setting that a modern video card has to deal with. If you guys disable them you will see a REMARKABLE increase in performance, you can up other settings as well. If your card does not have enough video memory (eg <512mb) then Antialiasing will also be a major dump. If you have one of the modern vid cards with 1gig you should be able to run AA at x8 or x16 no problem. Another thing you can do, if you have again over 512mb of video ram is turn on triple buffering, depending on the game your FPS will jump about 10-20fps in any situation. This is only possible if you have enough video ram.
Triple Buff + AA chews up a bit of ram, so make sure you have enough or enabling triple buffering with AA enabled will actually decrease performance.
Are those 90 FPS from staring at a wall inside of a dungeon? You're being incredibly deceiving to insist that you're going from an impossibly high frame rate with that setup to something more realistic. Maybe you can post a screenshot of your FPS if you insist you're not lying, but I doubt that's going to happen.
this sounds great ! even a 40% increase is definitly worth the extra card.
DX10 allows more things on screen at the same time and renders them far quicker than dx9 would be able to do it. The only problem with AOC is it's not a true dx10 game. It's still dx9 with some dx10 element layered on, mainly lighting.

The game looks really good on just DX9 you can't deny that. Any increase from those graphics just makes this game look even that much better than the rest = D
