Anyone know if I should start a new character on the isle or the mainland?
I have a new character on the FFA pvp server, but since it's kinda empty I wanna make a new one on another, more populated one. Just wanted to know where I should start out. Thanks in advance

For your first character I'd make it on the Isle. It has the best population and is very nice environment.

At present I would roll any alt on Isle of Dawn. IoD gives your character a great head start when it comes to any of the 3 spheres in terms of equipment and quests available and also population. It's a shame the starter areas are full of lore and starter dungeons to explore, they just need a re vamp regarding quest rewards and crafting and dipo quests. If you are just interested in adventuring and not concerned about population you may find the old starter areas rewarding.
the isle is good . it was envisioned after the game had matured a lot. In terms of pure reward there is more solo xp and likely more newb gear available on the island than in the old starter area counter parts.
However, I started out in Tursh and then later on another alt, on IoD, and I enjoyed both experiences.

Which area you start in depends a lot on your playstyle and expectations of the game. For me, I didn't start on the IoD because I like to earn the armor and weapons that I use. It was my feeling that the items from IoD were kinda "given" to you to make the game easier in the beginning. Just my opinion.
One of the fun parts of the game is when a green or blue item drops that I can use and it replaces an existing item. (I haven't gotten any higher drops that I can use yet.) For me, there is a certain satisfaction that I get from playing like this. I enjoy playing with only what drops and "making do" until something does.
So, as I said, it all depends on you. Fortunately, VG gives you the option to play either way.

Agreed. rolling a new toon on IoD is the way to go, very fun experience and you'll get acclimated to all three spheres and how they interact. Later on, with other toons it's very fun to start out in the various racial cities because of the lore and the race specific questlines.
Nice, thanks for the help guys. I started a druid on the isle and am liking it alot. I hope I don't miss out on too much of the lore and racial questing, I love that kind of stuff.

Just go to your racial city when you leave the Isle of Dawn. You may not get experience for some the quests, but you can still complete them and learn more about your race and home city. Besides, you'll want to familiarize yourself with trainers, suppliers, and the crafting and diplomacy quets lines if you elect to play in those spheres?

dont forget to snag a Slappy McCool whistle while on the isle so you can thoroughly annoy everyone afterwards with a random /slappy dance :P
I enjoyed the Isle personally as I had been away from the game since its bad beta/ begining
it was a fresh start and now I make all my alts (confirmed Alt-a-holic) on the Isle.
!!! I just leveled a sorcerer to 10 on the Isle and did every single adventuring, diplomatic and crafting quest. Took me about a month and somehow I forgot about Slappy. Where does one get that?

I maybe wrong, it's been a while. In one of the Hobgoblin camps you can see Slappy dancing surrounded by loads of non kos Hobgoblins dancing. You can parley with them and once you have won a few parleys you get the Slappy skill.

While the isle is probably the best overall starting experience you should role alts and do them all. Each starting area is unique and has some nice story and lore. They can all easily be soloed so they are just a lot of fun and if you can get 2-3 people to join you around lvl 10 you can do the intro dungeons as they are setup for mostly small group type experience till you are 15 or so when you encounter your first real dungeons.

Yep, this is the only alt I've started on IoD, I wanted to see what it was like. I also found it very fun to help out all the new players trying the game. For the rest of my alts, I really enjoy starting out in their racial sittings and learning the lore and exploring the racial quest lines.
