I need to choose one mmorpg and one only... HELP!!!

I've played a few mmorpg's most being with Free Trials. After a while I bought COH and had fun for about 3 months. Afterwards it was just boring. I need a fun MMORPG that keep me playing for years.

I don't want EQ since EQ 2 came out, but I'm not sure if that'll keep me playing.

Like said before I need a good long lasting MMORPG, hopefully with good graphics, good community, and lots of items to collect.

Price is not an issue...

    I recommend Everquest II.

Great community from what I've seen so far, tons of itmes to collect (and a cool webpage feeature that lets you track what you find along with others on your server and throughout the game).

Overall I think it is the best mmorpg out right now.

i wondered about this too. When i started playing luckily there wasnt as much choice as there is now. I won the game 'asherons call 2' on a microsoft conference. Nice game, great community feeling, but it got boring very soon.

Then Final Fantasy XI came out. I started playing that a year ago, and i think i'll be playing it for a long long time. So many things to do, (quests, missions, mini-stories, exploration, crafting...).
the only bad thing about ffxi is that you HAVE to party if you want to fight for XP.

alternatively, everquest 2 looks very good too.

all in all, i would recommend (although other options might be good also):

    - Final Fantasy XI
    - Everquest 2
    - World of Warcraft
    - Horizons (if you think crafting is a very important aspect of the game, go for this one)
    - Star wars galaxies (only if you like the idea of playing ion your favorite movie i think.....)

good luck on whatever you will choose

well, it really depends what you like.

If you want to join a MMORPG that has been out for awhile and I truly loved from beginning until I stopped (Cause of EQ2, long story), go for Dark Ages of Camelot.  Next month their Catacombs expansion is gonna make all character models like new generation MMORPGs.  The landscapes were already revamped in a previous expansion, so if you tried the DaoC trial, and you hated the graphics, you MUST buy the game to see the improvements!!!  The gameplay is top notch, no bugs, so many classes and skills, awesome friendly community (well at least on Lancelot and Gallahad server) and since it's been out for awhile, lots of players know what to do and how to help.  So you will never have a hard time.

Or if you try Everquest 2, you might not want to play DaoC cause the graphics are nicer in EQ2, the quests are just as fun to do as in DaoC, but EQ2 is very new.  So not everyone knows exactly what to do perfect, not all quests have been discovered so you could be one of the first to discover them.  But at least since it's new, there is a challenge.  You never know what to expect and so does everyone around you.

That's why after playing DaoC for only 2 weeks, SOE allowed me to play EQ2 1 week before release, I found EQ2 fun... and I felt bad quitting DaoC cause EQ2 is very time consumming at the beginning.  But I can tell you now, the day I get bored of EQ2 for whatever reason, I'm re-activating my DaoC account.  There's no other MMORPG I would want to switch to other than DaoC.

I played the EQ2, Guild Wars, and most recently the World of Warcraft betas.  EQ2 lost me in from the beginning image.  I thought that while the characters looked much, much better.....the zones didn't look as good as I had expected them to and it was just kind of boring really.  Guild Wars delivers image.  This game has great environments, beautiful detail, and even lots of nature sounds.  I really loved this game.....seeing and hearing the seaguls flying over the beach and sharks circling around in the water.  The have some really cool mobs and in Guild Wars..... I love what they did with the necro image.....looks perfect, very goth.  All of the characters look great and much more realistic than say *cough* EQ1 image *cough*.  World of Warcraft image beta is going great and I think that this is the truly the game to buy image.  There's just soooo much you can do in this one.  Tons of pets and some of the mounts (especially the undead mounts) look so damn cool.  I just got a little imp for my warlock last night, love it.  Any class can solo easily in this game... the trade skills are fun.........lots of worlds to explore, the quests are fairly short and give you a ton of experience and items.....can't say enough good about this game.  It's not perfect, nothing ever is, but World of Warcraft has been the most fun out of all of the betas I have played.  I know I'll definitely be buying it when it comes out on the 23rd!!!!!!!  Best of luck in picking your fav!!!!!!  Ginny from Halas image

    My top 3 picks:

    1. World of Warcraft image

    2. Guild Wars image

    3. EQ2 image

It depends on what your into.If your into fantasy type games well theres too many to choose from i would suggest just going with EQ2 i played it for a bit (although it is not my cup of tea)and it seems to have quite a bit going for it.Im sure SOE is already working on a major expansion for it.
There seems even to be a few choices for scifi now as well that can keep you locked in for a few years. If you have the patience to learn and have/want a longterm vision then EvE is more a perfect choice for you.Its just that there are so MANY choices now that only a few really standout anymore. The rest are all developed under the gun so to speak.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

    Just play the damn game:)

First they are many different mmo's out there. Can you be more specific in what you are looking for ?

    PvP ?
    Crafting important or not ?
    Do you Roleplay ?
How much hours per week do you play ?
Are graphics important for you ?
Do you prefer sci-fi or medieval ?

Cause right now you will only get the game the "replyer" prefer, not the best game for you...

I would also recommend that you go with Everquest II as well.  From everything that I've read, and from my brief time with the beta, this def seems to be the one to go with.  Plus the crowd at EQ2 seems to be far better than WoW right now.

  • JorevJorev Member Posts: 1,500

Definitely World of Warcraft for now.

You can solo or group in WoW, the game supports both playstyles, while EQ2 is anti-soloing.

WoW has PvP if you want PvP, albeit a dummied down PvP since there is no material loss/gain.

EQ2 will only run smoothly on the higher end PCs which eliminates a lot of players who have decent comps but not good enough for EQ2. Graphics are nice eye candy but don't make a quality game.

Am looking forward to a more challenging PvE game with significant battleloss penalties, such as "Mourning" will offer. The medievel setting with a bloodline feature seems quite intriguing.

For a real PvP game, "Pirates of the Burning Sea" looks promising.

    You have several choices,

WoW - Pretty damn good game - Good support
EQ2 - Not my favourite game - Not my fav company
EvE - Good game - bad CS, they have a free expansion cocming out in Nov though which looks pretty good, Eve is well supported has a good community, can be hard to get into the game but if you are after sci-fi it could be a good choice.

Personally I would suggest you think abotu what you are looking for in a game and then choose based on your requirements.

  • thedrakonthedrakon Member UncommonPosts: 213

Hard core PvP = ShadowBane (might Wait for Mourning, Lineage is more like a EQ where you can die anytime, so, pretty bad)

Low PvP + lot of PvE = DaoC and WoW (For me, WoW is just a second version of DaoC but with the arcade gaming of CoH

Hard Core PvE with lot of time to invest = Eq2 ( dont go Eq1, it's too late to join, And, I really recommend EQ2, since it's Eq1 with GREAT new stuff)

Crafting = Horizon (great game for this one)

Sci-fy = SWG ( if you want, pvp, Craft and PvE all in the same + easy soloing) But, Anarchy Online could be good too, But, same problem as Eq1 i think)

dont want loot, just want to grind = CoH .. but, you must want to see a special mmo

If you want an addictive game, with High end content, Eq2 and WoW is the best choice, BUT ... Eq2 = PvE and WoW = PvP ... WoW is suppose to have some (raid encounter) soo, WoW gonna have both, but, Blizz want ppl to do PvP .. soo, you not gonna be able to play without pvping :P .. Eq2, it's all about making friend, killing mob with ppl, learning tactic... and so on.

So, Like everyone Said, Go for WoW (23th november) or go for Eq2 (already released).  Both game are great, their just some difference, ppl saying theirs a lot, but, both game are pretty similar.

    My choice = Eq2
If day could been longer = Eq2 + WoW ... Best match !

There ya go...great breakdown.  I have to re-emphasize EQ2 as well.  If you liked EQ1, you'll love this...

I also like the questing and crafting...very well done in EQ2 and has kept me interested in the game a whole lot.

  • unpoetunpoet Member Posts: 59

Wow the best choice right now, EQ2 has too many issues to really be considered better. I played a monk to 30+ in eq2 beta so i know what im talking about.

My plan for the forseable future:

    1, World of Warcraft - I've loved every WC game so far, and now theyre going online!! javascript:insertemote('::::02::');
2, Dark and light::::02:: - looks like a really cool game, but a bit of in the future...

    Good luck!

I better get my 2 cents in here to many Everquest 2 posts image. World Of Warcraft is a good choice i've been playing the open beta and i'm having lots of fun. Tons of missions to do. It's all a matter of taste and what you like. I can only play one MMORPG so the only one that i was able to try before it went retail was WOW. EQ2 never had a open beta so i wasn't able to try it before i bought it. I think thats important. I don't want to dish out money if i don't like the game.

thats the thing...Ive also been a dedicated WC fan from the get go....and that might be why this was such a let down.  EQ2 is just where im goin...plain and simple.  out of the two exp i had...that was far better.  but i guess, to each his (or her) own.

  • GannithGannith Member Posts: 31

My opinion: WoW is the best MMORPG I've played so far, and that's even considering that I've only played the beta versions. I can list all the MMORPGs I've played in the past for those of you who doubt that I've played many, but I think it's unneccesary.

Try out WoW. Try out EQ2. Those are the two blockbusters. The big boys.

Since money is no issue for you, be sure to upgrade your PC to the absolute maximum so that EQ2 will look its best. However, if you don't have quite that much money, then play WoW because if you play EQ2, you're probably going to see some framerate problems unless you turn the settings down.

Currently, no other games will be able to compete with these two monstrosities. But, that's just my opinion.

For what you want I would say EQ2. Try both games if price is not an issue. EQ2 was made so they can add on to it in the future, which is nice. So I think it will keep you playing for years.

Please...Don't talk. When your condescending someone about their opinion on a game that is CORRECT (For about 75% of all classes in about 75% of all quests, you must group, unless you have followed another path where you don't do the quests in normal sequence), don't go around spitting out idiotic comments that are probably purposefully incorrect for your obvious loyalty to EQ2.

As to the original poster. I'd suggest no games that are out at the moment. Because well...They're all cookie-cutter jokes. But...If you like that type of thing. WoW or EQ2. WoW is more casual player friendly, involves a small amount of PvP, and runs great on lower-end systems.

EQ2 if it follows after its predecessor(I have not played EQ2) will be more geared towards those of a more hardcore nature. (It's EQ, lots of grind, huge timesinks, nasty death penalties). It has no PvP.

And it needs one hell of a computer to run on.

I beta tested EQ2 and WoW. Graphics in both games, while different styles, were great. Both games played great for betas but both were close to release.

Soooo, with that, my opinion would be this: if you like to almost always hunt/quest in groups go with EQ2. If you like to solo a lot with some grouping needed for certain quests then WoW is your game. Also, if you like crafting then WoW has a much better, imho, crafting system than EQ2. I also like the many modes of travel in WoW. The flights on the gryphons/hippogryphs are awesome! You will see many criticize WoW for it's lightweight PvP system. That, sccording to developers, is a work in progress and will see changes and improvements in the near future. PvP in WoW is far from complete. That said, to me, WoW was just a lot more fun tp play than EQ2 but as I said thats just my opinion and they are like rearends. We all have one. image
