Why does TV suck these days?

- Lost has gone to shit

- Heroes has gone to shit

- Prison Break has gone to shit

- Little Britain USA sucked compared to the UK version

- Ricky Gervais finished The Office and Extras

- House has dragged on far too long with the same story line

- The Sopranos finished

- Family guy sucked since the 3rd season finished

- The Simpsons sucked since the 11th season

- Futurama got canceled and now the movies they make suck

- American Dad has never been funny

- All the reality TV shows are boring as hell

- Worst Week was a shit version of the UK's original Worst Week of my Life

I can't even find anything good on UK TV anymore where normally alot of great comedy comes from. I mean my highlight on TV really is Nature's Great events and Friday night with Jonathan Ross. I remember when The Sopranos first came out, it was like the start of a TV revolution where it got really good again and now it sucks.

Frigging I heard there was some writers strike in America and if you ask me they should all be fired. Frigging they make enough money anyways and yet they seem to struggle with finance....... what idiots. What Actor needs millions per show? Like Really they should be doing it for the love and Actors like Samual L Jackson does loads of movies per year where he doens't get paid much. Frigging like Footballers, they get paid stupid amounts of money and the Football suffers because of it.

Personally I find American Dad funny. I'm even liking it now more than Family Guy. King of the Hill is always great too.

As for live action, I am enjoying Breaking Bad, 24, Chuck, The Office, My Name is Earl, and 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, and Ugly Betty.

I also currently watch Heroes, Lost, Fringe, Castle(for now), Legend of the Seeker, Big bang Theory, Smallville, Supernatural, The Unit(I sort of Hate it though), Kings, Dollhouse, Terminator, and Reaper.

I gather you are one of those people that can't stand the US version of the Office because you saw your UK version first, despite the US version being completely different after the first season, so I won't recommend that to you. However I suggest you give Breaking Bad a try.

Plus, there is always Dexter, True Blood, Brotherhood(unsure), The Tudors(First 2 episodes of Season 3 really good), and Sons of Anarchy when they return. I really liked SoA despite people panning it for being a weak Sopranos. I really can't see any relation between the two at all except that they both involve main characters who participate in criminal activity, and even on that point they are very different.

Precisely. That's usually the case with any "nowadays" complaints.

    Lost has always been crap

and Family Guy is still the most consistently funny show on TV.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

    Theres still Southpark.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I find myself watching TV less and less nowadays.  If there's a show I want to check out I just to out and DL some episodes and watch it on my time and my terms.  I used to watch Burn Notice (Bruce Campbell!!! C'mon!!) but I'm taking a break from it now.  I'm keeping up with The Legend of the Seaker but for some reason 2 episodes back it started to wear on me, the story started to drag for some reason so I'm hoping when I catch up with it now it might be better.

I just end up reding books now.  I check out a movie or 2 in the theaters and find other ways to occupy my time.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Reminds me of that time my TV flew at me. *daydreams*

I'm actually in agreement with Draenor. I love Family Guy.

The Life & Times of Tim is also an excellent show and my current favorite, but HBO seems to not show it much anymore and it isn't apart of their OnDemand; typical of a series being sent to DVD (in a matter of days now actually, says Amazon), and a second season has been confirmed as well.

Which brings me to think about True Blood which was good and folks seemed to like, but like the aforementioned is in stasis due to pending DVDs and second seasons.

other good shows for people who aren't super critical about television shows and just like entertainment:

How I Met Your Mother, 24, Lie To Me, Mentalist, Fringe, 30 Rock, the stuff you didn't mention because you know you like it... etc

South Park is still fucking awesome and Heroes have got better in the most recent season (second half of the 3rd), even if it's far from the standards of the first season. Just watch South Park over and over again, it never gets old.

Try East Bound and Down the first season just ended but it was hysterical. Personally, I find the only consistently good shows on TV always seem to be on HBO or Showtime - Entourage, True Blood, Flight of the Conchords, Big Love, United States of Tara, Weeds, Dexter all of them at least decent. Of course there are exceptions like Family Guy which has been funny since day one for the most part. But damn I wish Extras was still on... Also try watching Top Gear the best car show EVER.

All of thos being non-TV really.  I like the premium channel shows, they are the only thing worth watching today.

But why does TV suck?  Because it has become the trailer trash of all entertainment.  The ad revenue dried up a decade ago.  The good stuff is subscription based, HBO etc.

The real question is, when did TV ever not suck?  Seriously.  It was created to suck people in and make them too content with crap.  Think about it....life going to shit?  Watch some TV.  The world is at war?  Watch some TV.  Someone just die in your life?  Watch some TV.  Thinking about going outside to have some fun?  Watch some TV.  Girlfriend want to have sex?  Watch some TV.

End result is a placated world, while the people who are wealthy enjoy their prosperity.  Gah, corporations must have welcomed the age of Television with such open arms, as it allows them to do what they do best.

My blog is a continuing story of what MMO's should be like.

I dunno the only thing I liked outta South Park was the Movie and maybe season one cause at the time it was like, omg are they really allowed to say these things on TV? However now it's acceptable an the shock value has gone I just don't find it funny anymore.

  • springflyspringfly Member Posts: 3

i partly agree with the above i think the listed tv series are mostly attractive in the earilier period but gradually they become boring. anyway if i'm too boring any suck tv can become funny to me.

The problem with TV is they have to break the mold, fighting repetition, yet they most also adhere with the formula.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicoles was beginning to erk me because they were placing the future leader and hope of mankind into the role of an emo kid.  I'd dare say brat but don't want to induce the rage.  However they have began wrapping that part up and hopefully the "meat and potatoes" can resume.

Then there comes along a show like Dollhouse and gives me hope again.  Such few shows come along that explore twists of morality and the subject of human programming.

That being said I spend the majority of my entertainment time either playing video games, posting on message boards, or surfing the net.  One day I'll shall have to concentrate on physical books and less reading of the computer screen.

    Edit: grammar

Agreed on the downloading.  There's just not enough time to watch on their schedule.  (Considering their frequency at that)

Thank goodness for technologies like DVR.

    I don't feel TV sucks,

There are a few series I started to enjoy due to watching it with my wife: Ungly Betty, Desperate Housewifes, House, and yes I am actualy enjoying them, though I never would have looked at them if my wife wasn't into them.

    Series I myself enjoy:

Heroes, 24, Numbers, Criminal minds, Smallville, Prison Break but waiting for the new episodes, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, SciFi channel occasionaly grabs me with eps of StarTrek NG, as I have not seen all and sometimes they air one I havn't seen, same goes for Enterprise.

But almost everything I or we together see is recorded, mainly due to time but also due to our hate towards tv-adds as they are the most anyoing thing I feel comming from tv and will skip it most of the time, every now and then a cool ad shows up, but regardless tv-adds are anyoing and totaly break us out of what ever we are watching.

Most shows on TV are crap, they always have been. There's a few gems around and there's some that are good for a season or two, but in general most are brainless drivel.

I pretty much stopped trying to follow any of the new shows a while ago. Most shows after a few years become too dramatized. You can't miss one week or you are lost on what is going on in the show for two weeks. What ever happened to the shows that were one hour of entertainment n if you missed a week or two, you could still enjoy the show without wondering WTF?

Currently I watch two shows. Supernatural n Stargate Atlantis. Supernatural is getting to the point if you miss a week, you are gonna be confused...so I only watch it once in a while, if my wife happens to be watching it.

Otherwize, I have been going to the movie store n renting some of the old box set TV shows....Sliders, original BattleStar Galactica. Find the old shows, even tho bad acting at times n poor special effects by todays standards...are still much better to watch than the new crop of shows.
