Well hey!

Right now I have AVG free version installed on my PC and i like it but I wanted to ask if there is a better program than AVG. I am planning to buy AVG, the lets say pro version, in a couple of months and before that I was going to do some research.

AVG and Avast are both good anti-virus programs.  Kaspersky is good but a bit expensive.  Avira Antivir is pretty good too I think but I haven't tried that one before.  I'm pretty sure all 4 of those have good internet security tools when you purchase them too.  I use AVG myself, I might try out Avira sometime.  I don't think you would be disappointed with AVG pro or whatever.  Norton has always been terrible.. it's worse than having a virus.

ESET NOD32 is in my opinion the best anti-virus available.

I've been using NOD32 for almost 2 years and it seems solid to me, also try DONT DOWNLOAD/WATCH PORN. And your PC should be perfect.

Like stated before you have AVG and Avast.  Only some minor diffrences, AVG seems to take up less resources while Avast seems to catch viruses more effiently. But I use AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy.  Another one I use to use about a year back was Zone Alarm.

I purchased Ad-Aware by Lavasoft a few weeks ago.  It replaced my old Symantec AV and SpySweeper.  I had issues with those two peices of software bumping heads during scans and quarantines.  I wanted a single solution and based on the reviews Ive read this one rates number one by many reputable sources and has won a crapton of awards.

not to mention it uses a very minimal amount of system resources unlike Nortan, AVG and Kapersky

From my experience NOD32 is still the best.

    Read it again!

Ive been using kaspersky for a year and a half now and love it.  The one i bought was like $60.00 but it comes with protection for 3 comps, which i need.  It also seems very easy on my hardware, and catches everything.  I couldnt say that about avg or norton when i had them..

Kaspersky is the best pay Internet Security suite atm I believe, but others like Norton Internet Security 2009 are very very good. I know some will laugh about it, but just check out some of the reviews of the 2009 version, it is completely changed doesn't constantly bother you with prompts, protects your browsers with a rating system on each web-site searched, has pulse updates that download nearly every 2 minutes. I had some qualms about trying Norton, but the 2009 Internet Security was really good. Anyone saying otherwise just has some problem with Norton they still haven't gotten over, and its sad cause they are missing one of the better paid Security suites.

Use Kaspersky, it is currently the best anti-virus program out there and has been for a while now.  Any magazines or websites with a decent reputation will advise it to.  Internet Security 2009 covers you in so many ways its worth buying.

I use Avast as my main scanner. It updates itself which is good because I forget, and catches most stuff.

I back that up with spybot (you may not want to use the teaTimer system setting protection though). Spybot has a good passive feature that blocks most malware from even working in the first place.

And lastly, as a scanner to catch the sneakiest of things that slip through, I use Malwarebyet's anti-malware.

All of those are completely free and in conjunction work wonders, even if I do come across some questionable sites, they keep my comp pretty safe.
