Make sure you have a very good computer if you want to play and have fun, dont get freaked when you see lag during combat or hitching in cities this is all part of the "Vanguard experienc" Defrag you computer like crazy dont have anything running in the back ground. Performance is not as good as Lotro or aoc or wow or eq2 or many other games but if you can live with that it is a fun game especially if you are into the sand box style of play. Try diplomacy it is unique and i found it fun

I think Vanguard is about a 25 gig game with a phenomenal amount of detail and textures to load.. so yes, entering a major city right now will definitely cause some hitching as it loads up the textures.
Compared to EQ2, Vanguard runs better on my system at much higher settings. EQ2 had always brought my PC to its knees for some reason.
Erm.. i run 2 accounts of Vanguard at the same time on ONE pc meaning i duo box with everything maxed and i mean everything. I am running SLI and i am 60FPS running two VG clients at the same time on one PC.
I get very slight hitching in city but that last for 5 secs then it's perfect.
i don't buy it. Vista 32 leaves you at best 2gb and vg uses a bit over 1gb. When you run two of them I can't imagine you are not swaping like made which will kill performance. Maybe you can start two and run for short periods of time but long term and with good performance. Sorry I don't believe it. Maybe with vista 64 I would buy it.
It's true, you can easily run two instances of VG on the same rig with that kind of computer set-up. However, you need to be in Windowed mode and there is one big caveat... at least for me. If both instances have sound on, it will really, really hurt performance in both. However, if sound is turned off in one instance the performance is surprisingly good, even in raids. To help things, if I'm running one instance as a buff-bot or something, I will keep that toon away from the action and/or looking at the floor... this helps a lot too.
For some reason, I can no longer launch more than two instances on the same PC. I don't know if they put a limit on that or if I borked something.
Does anyone have one of those "Killer NIC" network cards and if you do does it make your online game run better. I run my extreme gamer sound card during the game but ia m sure that only increases frame rates right?
I read up on NIC cards when building my current PC, I didn't find that there would be enough performance boost to warrent the cost of the card. Maybe they've gotten better since then.

Are you doing this with a 32bit os?? My concern is memory usage. With 32 bit vista you are going to run very close to running out of memory pushing you into swaping. When I ran vg last and checked resource usage it used between 1-1.5gb of ram. 2x 1.5gb of ram would be 3gb and vista 32 won't have 3gb free after loading the OS which would put you into swaping. So yeah it would still run but swaping would be big time hitching issues which would be the problem I'd see.

I play both Vanguard and LOTRO. My pc can play Vanguard with everything maxed and I get great performance. There's some choppiness when loading a new area but that smooths out after a couple minutes. Nothing I haven't seen with other games I've played.
I cannot play LOTRO at full. I can't do DX10 because I get a big drop in framerate. My boyfriend who has a similar machine to mine except he has Vista 64 and 4 gigs RAM and can play it maxed all the way. I play it at medium/high settings which gives me good performance and the game still looks awesome.
As to population, LOTRO is booming, I see lots of people at all levels from 20s on up, both in groups and solo. I play on Landroval. Vanguards larger quest hubs have plenty of people, chat is usually active, and I haven't had much problem getting groups when I need them during prime time. Out in more remote areas there are fewer people of course. I play on Seradon there.
