EVE.  What's better even, is that it is the only MMO that has had a -consistent- rise in subscribers since it's release.  Just a steady increase to the roughly 250-300k now.  Even cooler, they've had 52k+ online on their single server at one time.

WoW PvP sux very much, especially for MMO! The only reasonable and great aspect of PvP in WoW is Arena and it have nothing to do with MMO. Its much more like TDM Quake.

IMO, PvP really works when there's no real penalty for dying (maybe time or XP or equipment durability ala EnB or other intangables like that).

I was about to express the same idea that is in the quote above, i'll quote and summarize instead :)

    3) PvP is at its best when there is little to none cost associated with death (die -> rez -> fight some more)

That... That is the exact reason why so many MMOs suck now. PvP is at it's ABSOLUTE WORST when there is absolutely no risk. Whats the point in fighting? Who cares if you lose? It doesn't matter at all. Having absolutely no risk kills games, makes them boring, redundant, and pointless.

There are enough pointless games out there for you to play. Go play them.

OMG.. I never knew there has to be a risk in playing a game.  SH*T..  Why didn't someone tell me?    And here I thought playing a game was about having fun..  OK Abrahmn.. lets go play some golf.. if you lose.. I TAKE YOUR CAR.. how's that for risk?  OH HELL.. better yet.. lets have games like they did back in the Aztec days.. Losing team LOSES their life..    wow, that would make for exciting football eh?  you talk about risk, that would be the ultimate risk..

In all honesty.. the problem is maturity of players that demand gank festivals..  I have played on many PvP servers and games, and seldom is there any true 1v1  or 3v3 or 5v5 successful PvP games out there.. 95% all the pro-PvP posters are normally children (age 21 and under) that like to get online with their buddies (2 or more) and gank single target victems..   It's not about playing the game, it's about you and your buddies feeling superior..  As a result.. I suggest and recommend professional mental health for you and your buddies.. LOL

    Do not want WoW pvp.

I played WoW prior to battlegrounds. It was a ton of fun. City raids all the time. THen the BG's come out. No more world pvp. No more REAL PVP. battlegrounds are large group duels to farm. No penalties either.

Yeah open World PvP is so much better.  thats why im not doing any PvP in wow except for open world.  I don't give a damn if im gimped and people bitch at me.

But Jumpgate is a game ive had my eye on and i hope they don't do it as well.  Just because its Popular in WoW don't mean they need to put it in every game.   When WAR came out everyone was in BG because it game more xp than open world. But the sieges were so much more fun.

I guess people just want instant gradification now..... It sucks.

    Eve, you carebear.

Ha Ha.. you prove my own point.....  IF you want Open PvP .. go play EVE.. I have played EVE, and quit during the first month.. why?  It was lame as hell.. Too much of a grind.. As for open world pvp, EvE is not successful because of that.. In FACT.. most of the subscribers HIDE in safe zones and areas to AVOID PvP.. But it still gains customers because it's the best Sci-Fi mmo out there.. I can guarantee you that as soon as a "decent" sci-fi hits the shelves, EvE will go bye bye.. mass exodus..

So as I say.. IF you think open PvP is so awesome.. go play EVE.. .. but I bet you don't, and if you do.. why are you so quick to jump ship and go play another game.. ha ha ha ha

Looks like the WoW kiddies got their wish. Go watch...  www.massively.com/2009/03/27/gdc-09-jumpgate-evolution-developer-video-walkthrough/#continued

He basically describes WoW in space. And if you watch the girl flying the ship with mouse and keyboard it looks like you won't even need apposable thumbs to play the game.

He also said and I quote "we do not want players having to choose a server" Which means no PvP servers. Carebear shitty space game with ZERO death penalty.

I'm kinda dissapointed they decided to go this route but it is in their best interest.  It would be interesting to how many more people sub based on this.

Make games you want to play.

I keep wondering, why does everyone want to tussle with the 600,000 pound gorilla of the industry (namely WoW)?

If a game manages to copy WoW, it still won't be the original experience, and will never do as well as Blizzards golden goose, yet everyone wants to do 'just what Blizzard did', only with a new skin on it. It'll pull a few hundred thousand ppl off WoW for a month or three, then they'll complain it's not WoW, and go back to it. It'll also pull a few thousand PVPers from EVE, who will find out it's got no PVP woth mentioning, and return to playing EVE.

If JG:E goes the way of ultra-smooth PVE and totally uncommittant PVP like WoW, including the required amount of player skill and dedication along with levels, bondage gear (bind on pickup whatever crap), I will be interested in it exactly as long as it takes for me to get bored shooting the same sort of computer mobs to level up, usually to something like early thirties, or one fourth of max level. I hit 28 in LOTRO beta because I had good friends in my team and they kept me going far beyond the usual 'okay, this is like Diablo but more boring'-point.

As to the 'Wing Commander was PVE'-comment, if I wanted to play Wing Commander, I'd just dust off the old game disks and play the game offline. Playing online, I'd like to see some of that Multiplayer Online part to come out and give me something more interesting to do then flying scripted missions ad infinitum ad nauseaum. EVE does that already, WITH a complex and challenging PVP environment and working, dynamic economy and base building/construction/conquest mechanics.

Looking at the trailer, it seems they're going for a bit of both, separate PVE storyline included with a PVP storyline. I like the idea of keeping as much population as possible on the same server, but generally I'm a bit worried about the level of consequence there will be for PVP in the game: Mainly, will there be PVP conquerable areas you can build on, will there be an economic advantage to holding such areas, and will being 'PVP enabled' give you any risk of losing something of meaning and any advantage compared to the 'risk-free' PVE player?

Furthermore, given the easy-looking Freelancer-style gameplay, I'm a bit worried about the level player skill will be allowed to affect combat. Original JG was much more fun to me because if you were a good pilot, you could actually manage to hold your own against people far in advance of you in the game, but it still had tools (autodock, etc) that you could fit if you weren't so hot on the stick and wanted the assist. It's interesting how in the interview they both tout that it's based on 'player skill, not dicerolls', but also say that 'it's real easy to play, no tutorial needed, just jump in the ship and go shoot stuff'. So, in the end, will player skill be gimped enough that only equipment stats are the real difference between two pilots, or will there actually be a place for the 'Top Guns' in this game?

PvE is for softies and quite frankly you guys already have an unlimited amount of carebear mmos out there so what's this crap about?

Another example of WoW's failed attempt at implementing PvP would be nothing short of a tragedy.   If you don't like PvP, perhaps you should find a title that more closely represents what you want.  LotRO comes to mind.

Ever think there are some people out that want a PvE Space MMO, with the option to PvP if they want too?

I prefer PvP Servers myself, just saying that PvE folks may what a Space MMO too.

I really don't like the route they are going, based off the GDC09 video linked Caligulug on page 24.

I really don't why they don't do 2 server types. PVP and PvE with opt in PvP.

Here's the problem with Eve online, alot of people, like myself, find the game mind numbingly boring.

Some people don't like the fact Jumpgate is Facton based.

I'm not a FFA PvP kinda guy, so Faction Based PvP works for me.

I like having a clear cut Enemy. FFA PvP just becomes a grieving engine.

PvP Safe Zones, even on PvP Server; Every game need at least one... like the starter zones/main capatial.

Always on PvP, can work if the main hub is super well defended, making an attack a suicide mission, and require alot of players to do.

Note: Spelling and gamma isn't my stong suit guys don't hound me on those.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but isn't Eve faction based PvP, which is what you want, so what's the problem?   YOU have the game you want..   I prefer PvE play along with MOST of the market out there.. if you want PvP, then fight for a PvP server and leave us PvE fans ALONE..   OR is it your intention to grieve on people like me?   hmmmmmmm

So.  Because you are of limited intelligence and are too lazy to finish the tutorial of EVE, the game is "boring"?   And you also feel that you have a right to comment on the game??  Gimme a break.

I played the free trial of EVE and actually made it thru the tutorial.  But I didn't play the game.  To do that you have to join a corp and become involved in the world.  Hence, I can't comment on the game either.

    <Mod Edit>

Good luck there,  because you ain't likely gonna find your game.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!

I really hope this game is very much like wow, that way it'll clean up eve's player base a bit.

Eve forces you to think all with other players and the skills needed to play it are more than just right / left click, move forward.
