    what is EQ2???

    seriously?

    never heard of it

    questions?

It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's, we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous music!

    I expect it'll be fine.

    Yeah, I'd do Betty....
But I'd be thinking about Wilma.

I expect a little trouble with account creation, but not much. As in OB they have alot of problems with the accoutn creation. Although it wont be perfect, i expect it to be much less painless then most.

I agree with the account creation part, I also think that overcrowding in the low level areas first few days, obviously some will level faster than others, so it should only be for a day or so, same as in OB.

The only problem will be too many people trying to start an account at the same time. Otherwise, I think it will be a smooth start to an awesome game. I have a feeling from the start it'll have a robust community. I just hope it's a nice and helpful one.

Hopefully they won't have any account creation problems:

    A. Not everyone and there dog will be trying to get an open-beta account because you have to buy the game and pay for a subscription with a credit card.

    B. They will have seen how quickly 1000000 people pressing F5 on their site breaks it, and have measures now to prevent that.

I expect a little lag and possibly some accoutn creation problems but it probably will be fixed fast. They did a great job witht he servers in the Beta and doing whatever they could do make them ready for release.

Althought i dont know how many of you remember when Diablo2 first came out :) First few days were rough server stability and lag wise :)

Sorry, I could not answer the poll. I don't know how smoothly EQ2's launch went.

If you had simply written Smoothly rather than EQ2, I would have chosen this.

In my fair opinion I think the website in general is going to get hammered again.  I think Blizzard needs to add in more roboust support for their website since it always goes under anytime something drastic happens, or changes such as a server outage.

    EQ2 launched?

I didn't even see it in the store...

That poll is incomplete I am unable to answer it as no choice is correct!::::20::

I love WoW and will be playing it, but launch is going to be horrific.

The stress test that you had to pay for was terrible in noob zones, and release will be exponentially worse. These problems will be solved as time goes by though.

First few hours of release will be spent staring at a spot where a mob spawns, then you have to try and target it before the 5 other pople staring at the same spot

    Gonna be rough :P

I think it will be relatively smooth, but i do expect the servers to crash and burn for at least a week, on and off, and i wouldnt be surprised to see billing problems, but overall it will go very well.

The only thing that does concern me is everyone trying to jam onto a few servers because of friends or allegiances made in beta. I for one will be aiming for whatever Test Server 9 has become and if i dont get into that server ill be very very annoyed..mainly because its going to be the unofficial australian pvp server and really for me joining any other server is a bit of a waste of time, other than the Server 8, which will be the PvE server.

I think account creation and everything will work good, but the starting zones will be totally packed, nothing anyone can do about that tho, people tend to start on the server that is high up in the list (if they havn't decided before) so I hope the serverlist sort on lowest population to even it out.

In reference to what smaku said about staring at a spot waiting or mobs to spawn...

Since they opened stress test they updated the dynamic spawn system... It works very well now i don't think it will be quite as drastic as you stated. The more people in the area the faster stuff spawns... and with that many people it should be almost instant respawns.

Just to correct someone, you don't need a credit card to play. You can go buy game-cards at your local Best Buy. I was concered about not having a credit card to until they anounced it so i think there will be a lot more people.

Unfortunatly there will not be 500,000 trying to make an account at the same time so im sure that the servers will be fine. It will be stable because they said that they are completley re-working the servers and starting over from "scratch" so the servers are like brand new :D

Blizzard has stated that the OB servers will not be used for the retail release.  Fresh untouched Servers with all the fixes on the are ready to go.  Why they are doing that........................ dont have a clue but i trust them.

And yes I definately remember that Diablo2 nightmare!  But it was over with soon enough.

I think I am going to try leveling up b4 completeing my first few quests due to that very fact of EVERYONE trying to do them at the same time.  Do you think its a good idea?  Should be because I will be gaining exp and looting for cash

All I am going to say is there is a good chance it will be smooth.  I would say more but figureing out how to write it without flameing some people is a chore.

Thats because they are selling as fast as they get them in :)

Anyway I was just curious because of some posts made on the WoW boards the last week or so of beta. Player crowding should alleviate after the player base stratifies a bit in a worst case scenario. Registration on release day and the initial week should be interesting though. SOE had to more than double the number of servers the first week. Up to 25 now and at least my server always has a good population.

I may give WoW a try about Febuary or March because by that time those who don't want to pay to play should be gone.

edited for clarity in the last sentance.

    Better than EQII's.

I have faith that Blizzard will have learned from old expierences and that it will go very smooth.

But my question is, Will everyone have to get a patch when they install the game, and will the patch big large. If it is lets hope they can handel the downloading of it.

  • Julik100Julik100 Member Posts: 14

For anyone who was in the Beta... The final beta client i believe is the one they will be using when the game goes live. So if you didn't uninstall/delete the final beta client you should beable to get right on. If you did delete it you have to install off the CD and download a 30-50meg patch i think.... (Whatever the size of the last 2 patches were).

So either way it wont be too long :)

    What 'old' experiences? O.o

And I think everyone will have to download a patch, even if you have the OB client already.

Considering that EQ II's went extremely smooth, I am not sure how it could be better. I will also predict that WoW will set a new record on initial release day sales which will make things even more complex for Blizzard. I would not be surprised if the login servers have a meltdown and the release servers will be lagged to the point of a slideshow reminiscient of ealy AO in the entertainment district.

Edit and if you are smart you will be uninstalling the OB client, cleaning your registry and optimizing your hard drive for launch. Then be prepared for a nice long patch.

    seriously

i played like 10 online games, and NO one ever made a smooth launch (that i know, i saw eq2 beta had no bad lag, but a lot of graphics glitch (dont say my drivers are bad, i am a tech))

sure, blizzard have a battle net experience and that may help them, but reading the post about the game, that are almost all positives, i presume they will sell all copy, and have a few launch problems.

shadowbane was the worst i ever saw, they had lag at launch, and it lasted forever (more than 1 year)

anyway i tried eq2 beta, and wow beta, and my choice is wow. here are the reasons:

better interface with wow, did you know you can loot all with SHIFT RIGHT CLICK? hyper link to objects, loot need before greed with random, raid group up to 40 players (with loot management too), managing of groups by raid leader as he wish to make them. And finally: fun factor, objects drop often, you can craft your own armor whitout investing too much time in crafting (you do in harvesting, but that can be done on the run to hunting), good xp as solo and groups. good xp for quest but lower than when you hunt. elite monsters, instance dongeons, mail objects (1 hour) with c.o.d.

EQ2: i had to make quest to level faster at start because the xp was too low hunting, it have all good interface features too (mail etc), less drops in eq (who had a potion drop in first 10 levels?), good side of eq: the combo wheel to make some incredible feats and spectacular spell casting (require a pentium 4 3400 mghz with  the latest model of video card, that if you want to see all details) eq2 at full details is slow (on my pentium 4, 2600 1 gig ram, geforce ti. And i would like full details, because its so much beautiful)

i must admit i played more wow than eq2. and that i played warcraft 3 too. this may influence my judgement.

but overall, the real trill of players vs players fight is good :)
