Veteran LF PvE heavy MMO.

PesmergiaPesmergia Member Posts: 75

I've played a lot of MMOs, and I am lost, because nothing is catching my eye and SO many MMOs are on the market now.

I am looking for an MMO that pretty much forces group leveling like FFXI.

In FFXI level 1-10 would take you maybe 1-2 days but afterwards you had to look for group, and would get invited to a party that would be exping off of mobs that need to be tanked and need a healer in a zone.  And you had to make your way out to where the party is exping, avoiding mobs aggro on the way that could 2 shot you unless you're a tank, even if you're a tank you would die because lack of DPS/healing.

Looking for a game that fits that category.

I'm about to pick up LOTRO and try it. A lot of people say it is a great game, mostly group-oriented, and definitely is PvE-centered.

I play LOTRO and I really enjoy it, but it can easily be soloed.  There are group instances, but you could reach the level cap without ever being in a group.

The funny thing is at first I seemed real interested in a game that sounded like LOTRO, and LOL I am downloading the digital download right now... 50% complete, but have been looking around and on the LOTRO forums on this website a lot of the people are saying you can solo to high levels.

That is kind of making me worry because I hate games you can solo to real high or max levels, usually that promotes immaturity... not saying everyone who plays it is immature but probably more are than mature.

AoC was like that, as well as WoW and a lot of immature players on both of those games.

I was going to mention LOTRO as well as it is pretty much nothing but PvE centered.  I have played the trial and lvl'd up to lvl 20 and never had to group.  I am guessing it must get group friendly towards the end game but what pve game doesn't.  Not sure this is going to have exactly the same thing you are looking for.  I don't really know of a game that is heavily group oriented like FFXI.  Well good luck and hopefully someone can come along and give you a game that is heavily group oriented but i think FFXI is the only of it's kind when it comes to that.

I really havn't run into very many immature players, although I don't really have anything to campare LOTRO to, since this is my first P2P MMO.  Ppl were way more immature in runescape...

I think the option is there to solo obviously, but from posts and reviews I have personally read, it seems that the group content that is in place is great as well, so it really depends on what you want to do. The majority of gamers don't solo to the level cap of MMO's, but it's the style of some, so it's there for them.

EDIT: I also had worries about the maturity of the community, but it seems to be very mature, along the lines of EQ2 I've heard it compared.

Well the main thing with "groups" is a lot of games take it overboard.

Yet another reason I liked FFXI, exp groups consisted of a total of 5 people, meaning, it was relatively simple to get a group to exp.

And I hate MMOs that demand too many people eg, 25 man raids in WoW FTL., most big-shot mobs were taken down with about 15 people in FFXI, and there weren't even too many of those to kill, most of the story advancing material would use the 5 man foundation to advance the story.

I don't know maybe I am trying to be too picky, but I always found MMOs that require 20+ people for a raid against a single boss to be frustrating.

But maybe since LOTRO is known to be mature according to you it will be easier, and thus I am willing to give it a try.

Play what you want, how you want. It's your money. It's your time.

Why did you quit EQ2 Airinak?  I am on the border of wanting to try EQ2 out as well :)

The two end game raids in LOTRO only require 12 people.  Most group quests are designed for 6 people, and some are designed for 2 or 3.  Many story arcs have a group quest at the end, including pretty much all of the epic quests (main storyline advancing quests).  So even though you could solo to the level cap, it wouldn't be very fun, IMO since you wouldn't be able to experience a good portion of the storyline.

Well, I was a hardcore raider, so I guess I just got burnt out. Plus, the new content was mostly more of the same. I stopped playing a few months after Echoes of Faydwer was released.

Also, when you reach the level cap, there is nothing to do except raid, decorate your house, craft (yuck!), and sit on the docks of your home town AFK while watching a movie and waiting for the raid to start...

I think LotrO have a pretty good balance between solo and group content, the community is the best and most mature I have seen in a MMO.

You could also try DDO if you want forced grouping, very hard to solo in that game after level 3.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Give DDO a shot, loads of instances very very grp focused, have exporer areas (not so many but alot of exping from thoose only) or Lotro but u hardly need a grp in thre except mabye for the book quests.

Wow thank you all for your speedy replies :)

I will give LOTRO a shot and if it isn't what I am looking for, then DDO or EQ2 or Lineage 2.

Heard a good portion about L2, pretty group oriented we will see :)
