To be honest, SOUNDS AWSOME i'll PM u my e-mail/msn so i can help you in all a lil kid like me can (Webpage, images, forums, etc) I realy can help it sounds awsome the races can change a bit like with names like Kagnacrian (Humans) and that :P If it works i can help on getting people and all i'll check the webpage tomorow
mmorpg to believe this isn't another claim. Good luck on your project but don't be surprised if nobody supports you or volunteers without first seeing screenshots, that's just how people will react, is your game 2d or 3d? If I could add any input it would be try to add quests that require a puzzle to be solved, randomly generated would be ideal, not a point A B & C quest, but a quest that involves an actual puzzle between A B & C, the puzzle being whatever you choose to create but something creative that requires players to use their brain and have a choice to do something other than PvP or mindless quest, or grinding. I've noticed a trend in disposable garbage mmorpgs, they are all the same, they have mindless quests, grinding and pvp elements that even if they are amazing they always lack a storyline and quest system as I described. Your player housing system though sounds good and would stand out from other games.
Ok I agree with Razimus good puzzling quests and minimal grinding would be good features. I suggest you have a good system to keep track of quests. A good example of this is Maplestory's quest system ,which in my opinion was done very well. All in all it sounds like it could be a good game I would just say to keep at it and I am looking forward to seeing the final project.
Hey I got a suggestion why dont you make 3 world "the blue moon"(starting place) "The lava pits"(mid-leveled place) "the boss cave"(advanced boss raiding instances)
and a flying ship gets you there
and oh of course try to make a website making team consider me i just need a guy to pay for the web place and ima programin
1.)To Yakoozah: yes i actually have experience. I have a lot of 3d modeling experience, photoshop experience, and a bit of C++. Ive also experimented with realmcrafter (game engine). but im switching to Torque (a better one) as soon as i get the money.
2.)Good idea about the 3 different worlds, but im not sure ill use it. I'll think about it though. i am in need of some help in the web design department. if you want, you could edit the features on the freewebs i have, and then i can upgrade the domain later.

The game sounds relatively interesting. A bit of the same ol' same ol'....but hey, that's pretty much what mmorpgs are (humans, elves, dwarves, etc).
Here's a few things you may want to consider :
Good Graphics
People will argue that graphics aren't what makes a game...but I disagree. We live in a "visual" world where everything we do and react to is based on what we visualize. You've got to have amazing graphics for a game to stand out in this day and age. Its 2009....not 1986. People expect something that is current and technologically advanced. It basically boils down to this: sucky graphics are going to make people think it is a sucky game. Thats the impression people will get. And you know what they say, first impressions are everything! Do yourself a favor, make your game with some damn good graphics.
You've got a tough road ahead of you by doing this all on your own. I wish you the best of luck.
Total Freedom
Meaning, if there is something I want to do in game, I will be able to do it. If I want to spend my days as a crafter creating powerful epic weapons and gear (without ever leaving the safety of the city) - I can. If I see a mountain top in the distance and want to go exploring it - I can. If I want to spend my days becoming infamous as a player killer - I can. If I want to spend my days as a thief, making my living stealing from people - I can. If I want to build houses - I can. If I want to be a great adventurer and go out into the wild killing many epic beasts and monsters for their treasures and loot - I can.
I assure you, if you create a sandbox that allows anyone to do anything they want, you will succeed in making a very good game.
Unlimited Customization
People like to stand out. No one likes to look the same as anyone else. If you offer a vast amount of character customization people will really love your game. Make it so you can customize everything in the character creation mode. Allow customization for every aspect of the face and body (eyes, nose, mouth, chin, ears, arms, chest, hands, legs, feet, etc). Have several hair styles and faces to innitially choose from. After that, allow players to tailor their face and body via sliders if they want to (AoC allows this, AION also to a greater degree).
Have several sets of interesting looking armor. Allow players to dye their armor (no one likes running around looking like a mis-matched clown). Make armor look "grand". Boring armor makes for a boring game. I want my character to look badass! EQ2 had a great idea implimented on showing/hiding armor. Incorporate something like that. Give people the freedom to show what they want or do not want. Let them customize their look if they want to.
Character Animation
People stand around alot doing nothing. Breathe life into the characters by making them do various things while idle. It may not seem important but it is the little things that make a difference. Things such as blinking eyes and various facial expressions. Character interactions with the world can go a long way and make things interesting. If talking with people or NPCs, make them move their hands and do conversational gestures. If they stand around idle for too long, make them assume a boredom position (arms crossed, sighing, looking around, contorting their face, etc). Make them switch standing positions when doing nothing. Offer alot of emotes for the RPers. Make the NPCs so they move about in a city, or are animated in some way (i.e. crafters are hammering away on an anvil, stable masters are grooming a horse, gaurds are patrolling the city, a midwife is shaking out a blanket, etc).
All these things may seem minor and irrelevent. But I assure you, they are not. It will make your world seem that much more "alive". Little details matter. Alot.
Exciting Combat
People spend a good amount of their time in mmorpgs fighting monsters and other players. Make sure combat is fast paced and exciting. Boring combat makes for a boring game (look at LotRO...very boring combat). Make sure combat and its animation are fluid. Make it look interesting. Make it "feel" like you are kicking ass (i.e. spinning around and slashing, jumping in the air and hammering down, taking that arrow out of your quiver and firing it off from your bow, etc). Make several different combat animations...not just some guy swinging a sword the same way until something is dead. Give it some variety.
At any rate...combat has got to be pretty damned exciting for whatever system you decide to incorporate. Its first got to "look" cool in order to "be" cool.
Fun in Leveling
Whatever you do, leveling has got to be a fun experience. Todays MMOs use quests to "hide" the grind. Try to impliment new and creative ways to keep people from getting bored. Grinding can be fun if its limited and there is something good waiting for you at the end. Too much tho is bad. Spice up leveling. Keep it fun and exciting. You want people to forget the time in mmos, not make it seem like that last 15 minutes felt like a decade.
Like I said, so far, MMOs have only been able to come up with Questing as a way to "mask" the grind. Come up with new ideas and you're sure to have a hit MMO on your hands.
Good Endgame
There's got to be something really exciting that drives the players to want to max level (other than for the sake of just maxing level). Once a player hits max level, you've got to give him something to do. Come up with something new rather than constant Raiding and/or PvPing. You've got a good start with your "Hero" system....but after that, what is there? Really. What is there exciting to do after that?
So far, most of today's MMOs only offer endless raiding or pvp. Guess what? Its boring grinding all over again. Come up with something FUN to do that doesn't involve a grind.
Thats about all I can think of off the top of my head. Hope some of this helps.

might want to stray away from a "Moon" title.
