I have a bunch of invites left if anyone wants the free invite cloak and bonuses. Just PM me yer email if you don't want to post it in the open forum or reply with it and I'll fire off a few invites. Cya in Norrath!
Here's some nice scenery in the game I found on a players web blog. Shows off some of the current look of the game for those interested in checking it out! Come visit us in Norrath!
Anyways, just want to share some of the cool look of the game for those who are more familure with the inital blander look of the game at launch. Five years can really change a game huh? Come join us! PM me for a buddy key or make a post with yer email and one of us will send you a key which gives you a runspeed boost cloak as well as the ability to party with us and gain a boost to your leveling exp! Give Norrath a try for 14 days, you'll see how much there is to do and how much new content is constantly being released.
I was away for nine months and got back 10 days or so ago... The game looks a lot better now than before, and the multicore support makes the game float a lot better too.
However I reccomend EU players to try the US servers instead of the EU ones, more population and the EU servers I tried lagg somewhat. Dunno why I get better ping from the US ones myself but I ain't the only one. Lucan D'lere is the one I prefer to play on.
Totally and they're revamping the graphics engine code to update it. You see EQ2 was built with the assumption that CPU speeds were the way of the future. Back when it was being made, CPU's kept getting faster and GPU processing wasn't available. So flash forward and everything is GPU these days while the engine is still churning everything through the CPU. BUT NO LONGER!
Thanks to SOE's continued support for the game, they're evolving the engine to use deferred lighting (defer processing of shadows and point light rendering to the GPU) as well as take advantage of multi-core CPU's. Other enhancments are on their way (GPU shadows should be here any day now, the next update will have it and people on the test server already have a huge improvment to performance). Also the stenciled shadows are gone and soft shadowmaps are back so that'll help too!
(Disclaimer: I've played alot of MMO's and have burned out on em and keep comming back to EQ2 so I have a deep respect for a game I can keep coming back to and finding things to entertain me. When the shiney new feeling of the latest and greatest MMO flop wears off I keep comming back to EQ2 and find it just does so much right and still looks good doing it.)
