PvP on a PvP server?

apocalanceapocalance Member UncommonPosts: 1,073

How does PvP on a PvP server work?

From what I understand, if you're on someone elses land, then they have to attack you first, and then you can engage in combat only with those that attack you first. And of course, there are rules to get flagged attackable.

Thanks in advance.

From what I understand, I believe that there are sanctioned neutral zones where you can free for all battles, and then you can attack if you are on opposing land and vice versa.  It may have changed.

This is the beginning of my past. This is the end of my journey.

It's pretty much KOS. You don't need to be flagged or anything as far as I know. I just fought anybody I saw like it was my job.

Edit: If guards catch you fighting in a neutrall town though they will attack you. Found that out the hard way.

Narco, was that when they were on your land or were you on their land? Was there already a pvp battle happening, maybe they were already flagged attackable by a previous engagement recently?

It's all explained HERE under "Player vs Player server"

You are flagged all the time anywhere no matter what. I didn't have to wait for someone to attack first or for myself to attack first. I have fought in neutral , horde, and alliance territories. It is all out pvp no flagging rules(that I know of).

However, my brother played on a non-pvp server and told me stuff about having to be flagged and whatnot but for pvp servers there are no rules.

This is wrong, but you wouldn't have noticed if you always attacked the enemy while you were in friendly territory because that would have flagged you automatically for PvP.

As it says in the link I posted, there are three types of zone:

    Friendly, Enemy, and Contested

Players in friendly territories are safe unless they decide to engage an opposing faction player in combat.
Players in enemy territories will always be at risk and can be attacked by all players that belong in the territory.

All players can be attacked in neutral (contested) territories.

To simplify it for you any zone under lvl 20 is more or less a safe zone for the faction there part of. Any zone above 20 is contested or enemy zones.

Bascially your safe in your starting zones unless you flag yourself for pvp and the 10-20 zones as well. Lets say your a dwarf and you see a orc in your starting zone, that orc can not attack you unless you flagged yourself for pvp, however you can attack the orce no matter what if hes in your factions zone. Hope that kind of helps.

Basically I look at it as the zones from 1-20 lvl are newbie zones were a player gets to learn the game and from there your at risk at anytime unless you go back to those zones. In reality if there going to have a honour type system I think every zone should be either contested or enemy IMO.

Thanks, I understand now and the link was very helpful. I hadn't stumbled on to that page when looking around the wow site. I appreciate the information very much.

And SarinX, that's a little more information than I picked up from reading on the site. Thanks!

You are not safe in your starting zone. I remember raiding NE newb starting zones(tottally awesome slaughtering NE's by the dozens) And also recall enemies attacking newbs at my starting zone. But doubt this will happen when WoW hits live because of the Honor system.

Well, I had my rogue over in the Barrens and that sucked. There was a level 19 Tauren (don't remember what race) sitting down and I stealthed up behind him. I go to attack and "Invalid Target" pollutes te screen. That pissed me off. So what I ended up doing, was to dance around someone hoping they'd be stupid enough to hit me then I annihilate them. People seemed to get smarter as the more people I killed and would /chicken and run off. But, I was only level 16 and had never been into contested territory so I hope the PvP there is a lot better because not being able to attack like I wanted where I was is a joke. "n00bs" were meant to get slaughtered ::::18::.

    Wrong again.

You are safe in your starting zone as long as you do not attack the enemy.

dude did you even play WoW?

When you enter a zone it either says "friendly territory" in green, "Contested Territory" in orange, or "Enemy Territory" in red.

If you are in your own "green" zone , (zones level 1-20 typically), you CANNOT be attacked on sight, UNLESS you are flagged for pvp. Once you attack someone your name turns red, and you are flagged for pvp for 5 minutes, regardless if you die and rez, it is 5 minutes from the last time you attacked someone.

If you are in enemy territory (red) , you cannot attack anyone you see, the only way you can is if their name is red, which means they have attacked someone of your faction in the last 5 minutes.

I have a hard time believing you played this game lol.
