Best community ever

I have played WoW since TBC and until now, where I left because it was too boring. Now I have started playing this game and I must say this game rocks. The game itself is very nice, but the community is the best.  The servers are full of mature and helpfull players, always ready to help me with a quest or answer my questions if I have some.

What more can I say, this game rocks, with the best community ever, a nice game for new players to the mmorpgs.

QFT! I really like the community in Lotro too, a LOT better then WoW imo. Whenever you need some help with some boring fellowship quest, you get a fellowship going very fast.

One of the main reasons I keep playing Lotro is my super kinship :).

I agree !  I think the deed system has a lot to do with this - even if a player does not need the specific quest his friends or Kinsman is on, more than likely assising the friend or Kinsman, will help him towards deed completions - You will see this more and more as you get into Lone Lands, North Downs, Trollshaws up through Misty...

Great game, can't say enough about it

Have to agree.  I found everyone to be mature and very friendly.  I have noticed people jump into fights to help and if you do the same they wave or thank you.  I am more surpirsed at the population in the game.  I joined a month ago expecting to see a low or moderate at best population.  Most games of this age have lost their players to other new MMO's but tonight on snowborn server it was visibly packed.  Nice to see.

    QFT.

Snowbourn is so damn packed now, I have to dumb down my gfx to "high" whenever I approach 21st hall in Moria, as there are at least a 100 people running around each time, my PC (384MB 8800GT gfx card, 2GB RAM) just can't handle it.

It's not nice, but I actually hope, that there will be no free weekend in Europe, that would most probably mean queing for login!

Maybe if you play on the European servers, but the American ones really blow (at least Landroval). People are very very stuck up and snobbish. No one ever wants to group or even talk to you. If you aren't in their kinship, you're less than dirt.

You ever ask for advice, before the quest tracker, you'd be told to go look it up on the website. Now they just tell you to turn on the quest tracker.

It's the worst community I've seen, and the other other games I've played are free ones and Guild Wars.

    Better than Xbox Live, though.

uhhh....all i can say is, when you were asking for help, were you being snotty yourself....

Basically, did you walk into someones house and comment on how their children are retarded while pissing on the drapes and asking for a place to stay all at the same time? Because that's about the only time i have ever seen someone get "Snippy".

    At least the regulars...

I have to agree mostly here, but it isnt unique to LOTRO. The second you remove real interdepedency from an online game the "community" goes to shit. Thats simply because people will join a kinship or guild and they have all of their needs met. Theres no longer the need to be polite or help anyone to advance your character, people in MMORPGs are only nice so long as they're benefiting from it, with the obvious exception that some people are just nicer than others and some are genuinely willing to help out.

But for the most part MMO's are filled to the brim with cliquish elitist snobs who would as soon mock you in public chat for asking a legitimate question as they would to simply answer it. But this is to be expected really. Its the internet. Theres no need to fight against it or argue with them. The best thing you can do is play your game, make a solid core group of friends that you get along with, and wait patiently. It wont be long until the person who crossed you finds himself in a group that you're running and you can simply treat him like trash for the amuesment of you and your friends.

The only way you're really going to have a great community is if the game mechanics encourage it. Not really so in LOTRO or most any other mainstream modern MMO.

Yeah, I'd like to have seen what he was saying in chat channels and what is character names are.  Landroval is the unofficial RP server, so there are no doubt some people there that won't have anything to do with you if your name is Mrhappy or some leetspeak type name, and if you are spamming chat channels with nonsense of course don't expect people to be friendly.

I have OOC channel off and that one can get pretty bad, but other than that, I agree the LotRO community is great.

I have been playing LOTRO for over a year now and try to help anyone I see having difficulty with their quest.  Most players on Elendilmer are friendly and helpful...but if you come on with an attitude then you are far less likely to get help.

I agree, people in this game are much nicer to each other, and are actually willing to help with no questions asked.  It was very easy for me to get started playing, and I am enjoying it a lot more than other MMOs I have played.  Fellowships are very quick and easy to find for almost everything, even more so lately because the servers seem to be filling up more than I expected (I actually had a queue the other day ).

I think I will be staying in Middle-Earth for quite a while!

I don't play LotRO anymore, but, when I did, I never ran across this.

Granted, I only played on the Silverlode server, but everyone there was extremely helpful and friendly. Any time someone started acting like a prick in the OOC or trade chats, people would shut them down quick.

Sometimes I think about giving the game another try.

I don't know when you played the game, but I just started on the Landroval server, and so far everyone has been very nice and helpful.  The community I have seen so far has been the best community I have ever encountered in an MMO.

Every time I have asked in the [LFF] channel to do a Fellowship quest; within minutes I have found people who have acted mature, and helpful.  So I don't know if it is just me not seeing it, or if the game has actually improved since you last played it.

As someone who's been around since Alpha, I try to help and answer questions whenever possible, even though I'm in a Kinship.  However, this is NOT a one way street with regards to civility. In otherwords, the player seeking help bears some responsibility in the asking and seeking of help.  If I'm in a Starter Area with my level 55 character, and you blindly request a Fellowship with your level 7 character, I'm NOT going to oblige.   That's just one example. To me it's a matter of mutual respect, and one can usually tell within seconds what sort of player you're dealing with.

But yes, I too believe that LOTRO has one of the best communities I've experienced in an MMO (and I've played quite a few).

    /chuckle.

Recently resubbed to Lotro and the community is as wonderful as I remembered it to be. It's not THE most important thing in a game for me... but it scores pretty high and I won't play a game full of uncivil louts.

On a completely different note, I was also quite pleased with performance. I left the game when I did because of the screen tearing and hitching... couldn't get rid of it on any setting. Now the game plays very smoothly on reasonably high settings (same computer) and it's just a great gaming experience all around.

    Props to the dev team.
