aparently L2 isnt a good game from what i was told...so, CoH kinda caught my eye. i need a replacement game 4 PS since ive been playing since retail. so tell me the good points of CoH and the bad points. i like pvp (sometimes, but not random killing...not in rpgs), dont mind lvl grinding really since i have alot of free time in the winter, and i love char customization.

I don't know much about game play because I don't own it, but I would get on a freinds account and just make characters. The character custimization is some od the best I've seen. YOu have so many schoices and then you can change the color of everything. It's a robust system for look. Th powers seem to me to be a tid rodundant. Seems like you have almost the same abilities using different elements or energy. Overall I'd say it's pretty good system.

It really is a fun online game. It's basically an RPG stripped down a bit so you pay more attention to playing the game and to story. What do I mean by that? No crafting. No real equipment. Instead what you get are powers and slots to put enhancements in those powers (up to 6 slots per power and each power starts with 1 slot).
You can add accuracy buffs, damage buffs, endurance (every time you use a power, a certain amount of endurance is used) usage decrease, etc.
There are 5 basic ArcheTypes (ATs) of heroes. Blaster (ranged), Scrapper (melee), Controller (crowd control), Defender (healing, buffing, defense and some ranged damage), and Tanker (tank). Within each AT you have 4 or 5 primary powersets to choose from and 4 or 5 secondary powersets to choose from. For most classes, soloing is no problem, although it can get tough for Defenders and Controllers.
You also have like 10 power pools to choose from. These give you additional melee attacks, travel powers (such as superspeed, flying, teleport) and AoE buffs that increase damage, accuracy, etc. of your teammates.
As the other people have mentioned, the biggest difference between this game and virtually any other online game out there is the amount of customization you can do to the look of your character. There are many clothing choices, colors, patters, accessories, etc. to choose from to make your look unique and also something that fits the character you want to create. As you progress you also have the potential to unlock 3 more costume slots so that you can create various costumes or disguises and change your look on the fly.
Cryptic and NCSoft have done a very good job of designing the game so that you can have fun soloing or when part of a team, and if you are a casual or hardcore gamer. There's virtually no camping since most of the time you are doing instanced indoor or outdoor missions and the amount of griefers is minimal when compared to some of the other online games out there. I'd say it's definitely worth getting, especially if you are into the superhero/comic book genre.
Oh, I should also mention that there is virtually no limit to spread of levels in a team. Higher level characters can do lower end missions by getting Exemplared to a lower level char. Alternatively, lower level chars can exp with higher level chars in high level missions by getting sidekicked to a higher level char.
So unlike games like AC2 where you can only exp with someone within 5 levels of your own, there is virtually no limit in how you can group with other players to exp. Which is a huge difference.
Makes it much easier to find teams and to hang out with your friends no matter what levels you might be.

Yep if you like crafting try EQ2 :-).
Otherwise welcome to CoH, my 38 level toon has played with levels ranging from 21 to 46 in the past week.
If its RP you like then try the Virtue server.
